Week 1. All good with pineapple so far, getting great weather and topping up the light for a couple of hours each night. Seems like a nice hardy strain so far, already getting good doses of warm sun and loving it. 🍻
Week 2. Pineapple is going great. It’s really leggy though, most likely because I have the light a bit higher at night, but it’s all good as I have fashioned some supports out of chop sticks and wire, which work beautifully! Good weather this week and good growth too 🍻
Week 3. Geez they got tall! Obviously my light was a bit high, but it’s no problem as pineapple was repotted this week into a 5l pot and I could bury a bit deeper without any issues. All went well and didn’t seem to stall at all. Keeping the extra light for now, even though my daylight is over 13hrs, just wanna make sure so will keep topping up the light in the evening for a while. 🍻
Week 4. Chunk is doing really well. Happy and healthy. A slight stall with the transition of pots but off and running now. Topped first time today. I was gonna top a few times but it’s only supposed to be a short plant anyway so may just leave it at the one time. A nice drink of worm tea today for the first time. Still adding a couple of hours of extra light each night. So far so good. Thanks for visiting 🍻
Week 5. Chunk is pumping along. It’s lovin life at the moment. Our first decent spell of heat this summer and he is lovin it. Recovered well from topping and lots of branches are popping out underneath. I reckon it could take some maintenance over the season for sure. Still getting a bit of extra light each night which I will continue for about another 2 weeks until they outgrow these small pots. It will be interesting to see how big it gets, it’s supposed to top out at 1.2m or 4ft which is just right for my place. Thanks for visiting 🍻
Week 6. Disaster stuck! I repotted chunk in a much larger pot with some new organic soil I bought online called “super soil”. The company mentioned it is especially hot, and to cut it back with coco coir and peat, which I did. Also not to expose young roots, rather to use it in the bottom third of the pot. I did all this too. But after one and a half days, burns are appearing,,, bad. All 3 plants are showing burn, although chunk is definitely the worst. Now I don’t know whether to wait it out, or remove them ASAP and throw away like $200 bucks worth of soil and additives. I’m gonna try rinsing it big time. I gave 2 thorough soaks today and another tomorrow. I’m thinking to monitor over the next few days and just cut my losses if it gets worse. Fuck it, they were going perfectly. I keep getting these ideas about soil and how to do it better and I just keep fucking things up more. No more fancy shit ever again. Going back to premium bag mix and perlite, these seem to give the least hassles and great results. I’m shattered😔
Week 7. Chunk is doing a lot better this week. He is still showing signs of the burn after last weeks disaster, but it is not getting any worse, in fact the new growth is looking healthy and deep green. I feel like chunk is finally getting better. It’s a shame about this setback because it was really taking off and separating himself from the others. It is still 7cm taller than the rest and seems to be growing vertically again after the shock. Topped again yesterday, which I would have liked to do when he was shorter, but shit happens. With thanks to my mates on GD for the good advice and reassuring words after the burn issue, it seems chunk is heading in the right direction. 🍻
Week 8. Chunk has well and truly shaken off the burn now and has had a great week of growth. It gained 18cm this week, and really filled out with the new tops doing well. A few places I topped only came back with one new growth. It’s a bit weird, but it seems to be the way the plant is structured. Instead of the new growths next to eachother, they seem to be a bit staggered with one higher than the other. On some branches after topping, one new growth was higher than the other, and took all the light and dominated, while the other one did nothing. Other branches seemed to grow fairly evenly. A bit weird, but it has still developed a nice shape. I won’t top again, just leave it now and see how she goes. So far this is shaping up to be one of the biggest I have grown yet, so hoping for a hassle free finish. Cheers for visiting all. 🍻
Week 9. A solid week for chunk with some good vertical growth. I topped the very highest top in the hope the other will catch up and even out the shape a little. It seems to respond well to topping. Chunk has nice strong stems already. It’s really not much to look at. Pretty shaggy really, but very healthy and hassle free for now. All plants have been brought inside just for a couple of days as we are getting hit by heavy rain and wind due to a weather system at the moment. Quite a few preflowers are showing too, so with any luck she will be an early finisher. Thanks for visiting! 🍻
Week 10. A good week of vertical growth for chunk, 12cm after topping last week. The shape seems to have evened out well enough, although one side is a bit bare with one of the branches just not keeping up. Still, I’m sure it will fill up with the early flower stretch. It’s summer solstice in 2 days, with days getting shorter from then. Chunk has quite a few hairs on him. Has done for a few weeks, but it’s still producing nice leaf growth and filling out a little, It’s a weird one really. Not all that good looking. But nice strong main stems so it looks like it won’t need any supports with any luck. The other chunk I had is at my mates place, about 30mins away from here, and it is budding away already! So strange as the days are at their longest at the moment. Maybe I will get a nice early finish with this one. Thanks for visiting all 🍻
Week 11. Chunk exploded stretching 20cm this week to 110cm. Flowering is underway early which is great news! Hopefully a nice early finisher. It is supposed to grow up to 120cm which is about as high as I would like for my backyard, so hoping it eases back in weeks to come. It’s super healthy and packing on the weight. Branches are getting stronger and more rigid, and lining up with buds. A kind of ugly plant in veg, but that could change if those long tops fill up with buds. I fed a nice worm tea this week made from castings, molasses, coconut water, aloe and seaweed and aerated for 24hrs. Also I have switched to bloom feeding which he seems to love. Treating all plants for some spider mite with twice weekly neem soaks. Seems to be working and keeping em in check at least. Chunk is more resistant than the others I reckon. So far so good, Merry Christmas and happy new year to all my GD mates. Thanks for all your help and support with my grows. 🍻
Week 12. Another great week of weather this week with showers almost every day and evening, as well as sunny periods giving ideal warm and humid conditions for the plants. Chunk has slowed down in vertical growth, although it did grow another 9cm this week. The tops are starting to line up with buds now. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the shape of this plant, but it looks like it is showing that it has very nice strong stems, nice spaces between branches, and nice long rods which I expect to fill up in coming weeks.
I have one branch which is especially full of buds and much more advanced than others. I wonder if this is because I had to chop an under performing branch right next to it, and it may be doing the work of both branches?? I do work off the theory removing lower/under performing branches and leaves to redistribute energy to the main tops. For this reason I consider myself a heavy defoliator compared to most. I go by feel mostly. Sometimes I may think I go a bit far, but it’s because I take pride in tidy and uniform appearance, and available exposure to sunlight for all of the main growth areas.
So this week, on top of regular lollipopping, I removed some more of the lower leaves and branches which were never gonna make it near the tops. It left chunk looking a bit bare and I started to second guess myself a bit, but after a few days, it does look like the main rods have really beefed up. So I will continue to go by feel and trust my instincts into the future. Thanks to you all for your advice and comments along the way. Happy New Year to all!! 🍻
Week 13. Chunk is going really well at the moment.
It may have reached its full height now, only growing another 5cm this week to 124cm. Barney’s says this is about average height.
Buds are getting a bit nicer and the first resin is appearing. It’s already got a good smell to it for sure.
I really like growing this one because it’s tough and hassle free so far, and finishes early, a plus for my situation.
So far so good. Thanks for the visit 👍
Week 14.
Another good week for chunk with mostly nice weather and no issues. He’s putting on weight now, looking nice.
A fair bit of humidity at the moment, but slightly milder temps due to a nice southerly blow. Pretty much perfect conditions.
The shade cover has been good and it’s good to know if we get hail, I should be ok.
But it’s definitely not as hot as the last 2 summers.
Nice looking buds on chunk! Not much on the lower branches, but the tops are filling up big time. It’s got a lovely smell to it.
At the moment, I can’t say enough for growing this one. It’s tough, not too tall and quick! Very happy so far
Week 15.
A week of buds fattening up nicely on chunk.
Only 2cm vertical growth now at 127cm, this will be max height I would say. The buds are shaping up really well now.
Long tall lines, which are my favourite type. A nice surprise as I wasn’t sure what to expect. Lovely smell now too, and nice resin frosting on buds.
Some nice weather this week which I can only hope to continue. With only a couple of weeks left, I don’t want too much wet weather here on out.
But right now, I am happy as a pig in shit! 🍻
Week 16
What an awesome week for chunk. Beautiful weather, and those awesome buds just get fatter and fatter.
The smell is awesome, sweet and strong. The changes are happening more rapidly in these late stages.
I feel like I notice something different nearly every day now.
I don’t wanna jinx anything but this has been the most perfect grow I’ve had. I can’t say enough for this awesome strain so far.
It ticks all boxes. I’ve just gotta get her through a couple more weeks. It’s around this stage I get a bit touchy.
It’s so close I can almost taste it already!! Here’s hoping chunk powers his way to the finish line. 🍻
Week 17 and chunk is done!! 🍻
And all of a sudden too!!
Chunk just turns it on in the last 2 weeks. I was thinking it would be at least a week more, which was past the breeders flower estimate,,
but it just started changing every day. She ended up exactly 8 weeks of flowering in a nice hot humid summer.
Those buds really filled out in the last 10 days. The tops got thicker, but mostly the side bits which looked pretty small in the start, filled out nicely.
After a pic of the trichs, I was happy to seal the deal. I only take a pic with my phone, I don’t have a loupe. But the visual for me is good enough.
I really get too nervous to leave it outside when they are at this stage, as I would be just too shattered if anything was to go wrong
So next up is harvest, as I have today had the best job of all, cutting this beauty and hanging on the rack.
I don’t want to get too far ahead, but if chunk tastes nice enough, and gets me stoned,,, then it will be my first score of 10/10.
I can’t speak highly enough to chunk for the outdoor grower.
It’s everything. Short (stealthy), strong and stocky, quick, 2 for 2 easy germination, not leafy, no bugs, no mould,
no issues, no nothing at all!! Grows huge buds real quick. Handled rain and humidity. Topped twice no real need for LST.
Only problem is it’s sad to see her go😔
Thanks for your support all my GD mates. Especially med in week 6 when I burned the shit out of him with the hot soil!!
Back in around 2 weeks. 🍻
The pineapple chunk is just a real beauty, and I really did not have any negative experiences with her that weren’t of my own doing.
I absolutely recommend it to any outdoor growers out there, who want a hassle free grow, and a few jars of really great bud.
Thanks to all who followed the grow, and my others as well. It’s great to see all of us get better at this together. 🍻👍 Shooey
