What’s good everyone! My name is Bray and this is my first grow.
I was attempting to grow 10 GDB (Grandaddy Black) plants, 5 seeds from OG Sensible and 5 from I49 seed bank. I was stoked when 10/10 seeds germinated in only two days.
I put all 10 seeds in 7gal fabric pots filled with a mixture of Royal Gold Coir, Royal Gold Kings Mix, and Fox Farm Ocean Forest.
Fast forward a few days and all of the seedlings are looking healthy besides 3, 2 from I49 and 1 from OG Sensible. I think where I went wrong was in the delay of putting the seeds into soil. They germinated much more quickly than I expected and a few were already showing leaves when I took them out of the paper towel on day 3 of germination.
It only took a couple days of being in ground for all the seedlings to drop the seed husk. The 2 of the 3 that were gimpy were still growing with deformities and the last of the 3 was stuck in the seed membrane.
I attempted to salvage the 3 lil guys but they just couldn’t pull through so I trashed them to make room for 3 fresh seeds.
I will be moving forward in this grow with 3 plants from the I49 seeds and 4 plants from the OG Sensible seeds.
I’ve done a load of research on growing cannabis indoors and I’m hella excited to get this going. I’m currently germinating 3 G13 seeds from I49 to replace the babies I lost.
Thanks for checking out my first grow, I’ll see you guys at the end of week 1 of Veg!
1st week of Veg went well, I had 1 lil runt that didn’t make it, so going forward I’ll be posting about 6 GDB plants. 3 from I49 and 3 from OG sensible.
I only lightly implemented nutes this week. I used a little mixture of mycorrhizae, Recharge, and Bloom City Organics soil Enriched Conditioner in the water on the start and end of the week. I also used a tiny bit of Gaia Green 4-4-4 as well as Bloom City Organics 5-3-2 fertilizer. The former at the beginning of the week and the later at the end.
So far everything is going pretty well, the seedlings are looking strong with the first set of fan leaves forming.
I’ll have more to report at the end of week 2 of Veg.
P.S. I just put 3 G13 seeds in the ground and I am preparing to put 1 Maui Wowie seed in ground tomorrow. I will be posting Grow Diaries on those as they are ready.
Catch y’all next week.
I’m really happy with the growth rate of these babies so far. They’re all looking strong and healthy, big fan leaves, strong stems, and nice deep green coloration.
I’ve started a very light feed schedule, nutrients in the water once a week as well as top dressing with fertilizer once a week. Plain water the rest of the week.
The heat in the closet has been fluctuating between 75-83 degrees Fahrenheit. I have a lot of air circulation at play, so when the heat has risen to 80-85 degrees on some days it hasn’t had any sort of negative affect on the plants.
Everything is going pretty well so far. Week 3 we should see a nice little growth spurt from these babies.
What’s good people?!
Week 3 has come to an end. I had to go out of town a couple times throughout this week so I didn’t get to give these babies as much attention as I would have liked to.
All 6 GDB plants looking nice and healthy, maybe a little shorter than I would like them to be. At the end of this week I raised the lights a little bit to try and stretch the plants a little bit.
I did a little LST with tie downs, nothing major. I tied them down for a couple days and then untied. Ended the week tying down two branches on each plant, I’m planning on leaving them like that for the entirety of week 4.
Sometime during the next week I plan to do my first round of topping. I want to attempt to main line all of these plants so I can force the girls to distribute their energy evenly throughout the rest of the veg stage.
Still minimal nutes, I’m using a small amount of fertilizer on the soil and then watering in with nutrient mixed water once a week. I don’t want to risk getting nute happy and ruining my first grow. Maybe when the plants are stronger I’ll play around with some different water/feed schedules but for now keepin it simple.
I’m going to push these babies a little harder this new week, I want to see some nice growth by the time I post week 4!
What’s good?!
Week 4 has come and gone and the plants are all growing nicely.
So far I haven’t run into any problems, and I’m hoping to keep it that way the rest of the way.
The babies weren’t stretching as much as I wanted them to so I raised the lights a little bit at the end of week 3. I’m already seeing really good results, all 6 plants have already stretched to my liking. 3/6 of these baby girls are started to show they’re 7th set of leaves so I decided that this week I would do my first round of topping. I’m not going to lie, topping for the first time is pretty nerve racking, I can’t wait until I see the first signs of new growth.
I’m going to wait a few days before topping the remaining 3 plants, right now they are at 6 nodes still.
So far I’ve been watering as I see the soil begin to appear pretty dry, but I think I’m going to start water more thoroughly but less often and see if that makes any difference. I want to try and keep the soil from getting too dry from now on.
This week I used a mixture of Real Growers Recharge and Root Magic Mycorrhiza + Microbes in the water mid week. So far the use of mainly those two ingredients in my water once or twice a week seems to have given me pretty good results. Or at least it hasn’t seemed to have any negative affects.
I think week 5 I will be top dressing with fertilizer. A grower that I follow said this; “Liquid nutes feed the root system, and fertilizer feeds the microbes in the soil.” And that makes sense to me.
Week 5 is about to begin and I can’t wait to see the results of week 4 to show.
Thanks for checking in y’all!
Week 5
Since I started training at the end of week 4 I’ve seen a lot of strong growth. Also ran into my first issue as far as deficiencies go.
I have been Applying LST to the plants, training them down to run along the top of the soil towards the outsides of the fab pots. I also began to do some high stress training, trimming blocked leaves as well as topping the rest of the babies.
I believe I have either a phosphorus or boron deficiency in 2 plants. I’ve already started to counter and it looks like it’s working. The plants affected have still been growing strong so I’m not too worried as of right now.
Pushing for a big week 6, for now I’ll be focusing on training all the potential colas to be low profile and even. My goal is to get these babies to grow big enough that I can put up the first ScrOG net by week 9.
Mamba out.
Last week before switching to flower. I did a little over compensating after a week away and it took me a couple extra weeks to get the girls to bounce back. There is one plant that hasn’t really fully recovered, but the rest look nice and strong.
Almost all of the branches are about the same size and I’ve managed to keep the plants fairly compact. Hopefully I can get some fat colas to form through flower.
First week of flower is going great! After only 2 days these ladies were already showing me a bunch of pistils. By the end of day 7 of flower the rate of growth was pretty intense.
I set my timer so the lights are off during the day and on at night. I did this because living in SoCal it’s too hot during the day so it just made sense to have the lights off during that period.
Feeding once per week now, watering every other day.
About 8 weeks to go before I am able to harvest my first grow!
2nd week of flower in the books! Everything is going amazingly so far. They are drinking a ton of water and eating up all the nutes I feed them. The size of the bud sites are looking great, gonna be some pretty good size buds I think.
Gonna be out of town for week 3, hopefully the drip system I’m putting in place holds it down for me.
Everything is still going pretty well. A little bit disappointed in the rate of bud growth over the last 2 weeks. To be fair I was out of town for a week and wasn’t able to give these girls the attention they needed. They’re looking good now though, on the way into the 5th week of flower.
I put 3 more SF1000 into the closet. Hopefully it has a positive affect on the Bud growth/size.
Had some issues with some nute burning and maybe a lack of nitrogen. Also a little stress from the 3 added lights so I raised all the lights a bit. Everything is starting to bounce back now. I’ve learned a few good lessons during this grow. Less is more. Have just about 2 full weeks left on this run. Can’t wait to see how they end up looking in the end.
Should be about a week or so left, these are supposed to flower in 8 weeks. I’m still seeing a lot of fresh white pistils being pushed out so I’m hoping these still bulk up for another 2 weeks before I have to cut them down. I burned these ladies up a little, idk if it was nutes, lights too low, or something else. I did what I could to try and correct the issues and now I’m just flushing with clean water for the next couple weeks.
Looks like they are still going strong! Maybe another week left? I had to cut one plant down because it was starting to mature more than the others. I’m going to use that one to practice drying and curing before the rest are ready to go.
The colas are all getting pretty chunky, I’m seeing pretty rapid growth at this point. Finally recovering from my earlier mistakes.
I think these girls have about a week or so left to grow. They are getting fat and the aroma is insane. When I squeeze these colas they are super dense, hopefully I get some good dry weight out of these ladies. The smell is extremely fruity with some kerosene after notes. Hopefully I can finish strong and harvest in the next week or two. Also I think I’m seeing a little color creeping in at the end here? I guess only time will tell!
