11/22-11/28
Seed germinated using the shot glass method. Had a nice tap root after 48 hours, sown directly into soil blend on 11/22. Broke surface 11/25. I changed the tent configuration around and moved everything but the 2 clip on fans and the lights/plants to the outside of the tent to create more space. I wont be using the scrog method on this run, mostly because I was really disappointed by the final weights from my first attempt. It took longer, yielded less, and was generally a pain in the ass. I can see the potential in the method, but need a faster turn time on this run.
11/29-12/5
Not much going on here yet. The seedling seems to be established fairly well so I changed the light schedule to the full 18 hours on, but still only running the "veg" switch at this time. No feedings at this point, using straight purified water, 2-5 oz per day.
12/5 watering increased to 16 oz every 3rd day for now. pH is still a bit high, but wont be trying to lower it until I start saturating the soil in the whole pot when watering. Above ground growth still slow at this point while the root system is the main focus. Will be turning on the bloom switch on lights towards the end of this week to increase light intensity overall.
12/6-12/12
Well the "elf on the shelf" arrived at the house today to oversee all the Christmas preparations. I'd like to take this moment to wish everyone on GD a very Merry Christmas, a Happy Holiday season, and wishes for a much brighter and saner new year in '21. (thank goodness the world is begining to wake up to the benefit of cannabis, this year would have been so much harder without it for sure.
Not much going on in the tent yet, still concentrating on developing root system, but will start begin focusing on actual growth this week.
12/9 Now running lights with 12 hours full strength, and an additional 6 hours veg switch only. Will increase to full strength next week for the entire 18 hour cycle. Fertility meter starting to decline now, indicating a healthy root system has developed. Will start 1/2 strength feedings next week at 1 per week.
12/13-12/19
Lights now running 18/6 with both switches on. No issues to report so far. Will start working on lowering soil pH this week, and introducing 1/2 strength nutes with the last watering this coming week. So far developing into a nice looking plant with healthy broad leaves, good color, and tight spacing between the nodes.
12/15 introduced nutrients today at 1/2 strength from GHE column 1 with 1/2 strength cal/mag and 1/2 strength molasses added. Overall this plant looks very healthy and is starting to have vigorous growth. As this seed was sourced from a "friend of a friend" the genetics are iffy at best. Unsure if the seed came from a herm, or was just from an accidental pollination, but I'm leaning towards keeping it even if its male to start building my own seed reserves instead of paying $10 a bean from a seed bank.
12/20-12/26
Now receiving full strength nutrients from GHE flora chart column 1 plus cal-mag and molasses at 1 feeding per week. Had to raise lights a couple inches to keep in the sweet spot.
12/24 growth rate of 1/2 inch per day, overall very healthy, bushy, and starting to put out a little smell. still feeding once per week following the flora series chart.
12/26 upped nutrients to column 2 from flora series chart with added molasses and cal/mag (cal mag at 1/2 strength). Topped today.
12/27-1/2
12/30 Healthy looking and decent growth after topping last week (12/26). Average growth rate now at 0.87 inch per day, which during mid veg I personally consider an excellent average.
1/2/21 pH continuing on the high side, and I'm starting to believe its a meter issue rather than an actual issue. I've tested the water I give (with hydrion strips) at 5.8, and after adding the nutrients it tests out at 6, but the meter shows 7. Guess I'll order a new meter of a different variety. Upped nutrients to column 3 from the flora series chart, and performed a moderate defoliation today. Every plant in the tent appeared droopy yesterday so provided an additional watering.
1/3-1/9
1/3 The extra watering last week seems to have made a big difference. All 3 plants look very healthy and vigorous today. Due to height constraints in this tent will be transitioning to flower at the end of this week.
By height constraints I mean, 60" tall tent. Minimum hang height from top of tent to bottom of lighting is 15". Another 15" from light to canopy. 6" from floor to top of soil. Gives a total of 36 inch unusable space. 60" - 36" leaves 24" total space for vertical growth. Plant already at 11" and have to allow for it to double during the stretch. Next purchase I make is going to be a taller tent. I didn't have great success with scrog technique on my first try, (last grow), and hated not being able to move plants in and out of the tent while working with them, so really need to be able to have at least another foot of vertical grow room to get to the yield I'm looking for. (Who said we'd never use all that high school math...lol)😉
1/6 did the perfunctory light leak test and sealed up the ones we found. Flipped to 12/12 on 1/6. Moved to column 4 from flora series chart (transition) with equal added amounts of molasses and cal/mag
1/8 pretty drastic defoliation done to prepare for flowering. I always feel like I've removed to much when I see the pile afterwards, but it seems to pay off in the end.
1/10-1/16
1/10 Not much to report at start of this week. No signs of pistils yet, but "the stretch" has begun.
1/11 Raising lights now twice a week. Moved to column 5 of the flora series chart, with an additional 16 of purified water given before feeding. Feeding twice a week. "fertility meter" shows 0-1 before feeding and a solid 5 after. (note this very basic meter reads level from 0-7 with 5 being ideal)
1/14 Growth rate currently about 1 inch per day. Overall plant looks very healthy. Gave 32 oz purified water followed by 52 oz from column 5 flora series chart with added molasses and cal/mag. Day 8 since lights were flipped, still not showing any pistils.
1/17-1/23
1/17 Still waiting on first signs of pistils to show. Today is day 11 from setting lights to the 12/12 schedule. Plant remains healthy overall. As mentioned a few times during this grow I had pretty much 0 confidence in the pH meter I've been using, so yesterday I ordered a different style/more expensive one, as well as a really inexpensive one that can be calibrated using a solution. I also ordered some additional nutrients to add into the mix, (GHE Flora-nectar and GHE Diamond nectar). I haven't previously used either product, so I would welcome anyone who has to comment on their thoughts and experience with them.
1/19 Finally today the first white hairs!! bent and tied down the 4 tallest shoots which bought me about 4 more inches for vertical growth.
1/23 completely recovered from lst in about 2 hours, and has already gained 1/2 of the 4 inches back from being tied down
1/24-1/30
1/24 I went back and switched week 7 to "veg" because there is no option for selecting a week to 10 days of "transition" from veg to flower and wanted the weeks in flower to be a little more accurate for calculating expected finish time.
1/27 plants have finally fully transitioned to flower, so about 7-8 weeks left based on prior experience with these strains. Moved to column 6 of the GHE flora chart. Pre watered with 22 oz purified water before feeding. Still having pH issues, its a perfect 6.2 after feeding but climbs back to 7.0 in between. Wondering if its the brand of perlite I added to the soil? It's consistent across all 3 containers, each with a different strain, so its not a plant usage issue. I used the same proportions of the same brand and type of soils for my blend, and the only difference was the brand of perlite. Since it climbs gradually over the span of 4 days, that makes me think the cause is being "slow released" into the soil, which also makes me think perlite.
1/31-2/6
1/31 moved to column 7 of flora series chart. Thinned off more fan leaves.
2/3 This plant is beginning to show signs of nutrient toxicity. Not sure exactly which of the nutes is over powering her, everything else in the tent is getting the exact same feeding schedule with no signs of any problems. For now will cut this one back to 1/2 strength nutrients. Watered today with just 32 oz purified water.
2/5 Completely cleaned out lower 1/3 of plant, thinned out density in the middle to allow better airflow/light penetration
2/6 Another week in the books. Things seem to be moving along nicely. Expect these girls to start frosting up in the next week or two. Thanks to everyone for following along!!
2/7-2/13
2/7 Overall VERY pleased and impressed with this plant. It has been a vigorous grower. So much so in fact I've basically "lollipopped" it because my weak ass lights weren't really doing anything for the bottom 25% or so anyway so might as well concentrate on what's getting the light....right? I've had to cut back a little on the strength of feeding for this one plant. Everyone else in the tent is handling the feeding regimen without issue, but this one had some nutrient burn developing so I've adjusted to 3/4 strength which seems to have eliminated the problem.
2/9 oved to column 8 on GHE flora series chart, but still only feeding at 3/4 strength and will continue this unless it begins to show deficiency at some point.
2/14-2/20
2/15 beginning to see some frostiness. Smell is really beginning to develop. Overall very healthy. Vertical growth has slowed to almost nothing. Will start bulking up from here on out.
2/16 gave a 64oz feeding of flora series chart column 9 diluted to 3/4 strength
2/17 Major defoliation done. She's getting pretty sticky now! Cola's are filling in nicely.
2/20 Gave this plant a customized feeding today hoping to coax a bit more smell and trichome development out of her. Ratios as follows:
GHE Flora Micro 4ml/gal
GHE Flora Nectar 5ml/gal
Fox Farms cultivation Nation Bloom 10ml/gal
Fox Farms Rasta Gringo (cal/mag) 2.5ml/gal
Unsulfured Molasses 5ml/gal
4 marker lines on the dropper of pH down
The 1 gallon solution was then diluted to 3/4 strength with purified water.
2/21-2/27
2/23 No additional vertical growth since last update. She's just putting on weight and frosting up now. Continuing to use the custom feeding for this one, diluted to 3/4 strength.
2/25 Man the colors are really starting to show up on this one, loving it. Ordered the rest of the GHE Flora series line-up of nutrients. After a couple of grows with this brand being completed I'm pleased enough with the results to up the nutes from the "simple program" part of the chart to the "expert program" section of the chart.
2/28-3/6
Should only be 2-3 weeks left for this girl. This upcoming week will be the last feeding, and will be flushing from there.
2/28 Well wouldn't you know it. Just a couple weeks from the finish line for this plant, and another drastic change in weather. 10 days ago the high temp was in the single digits, a foot of snow on the ground, and low temp was below zero. Pretty unheard of around here. Our house does NOT have adequate heating for that kind of cold, so we closed off most of it and lived in just 2 rooms for almost a week. Fortunately the room the tent lives in was able to be kept at a near reasonable temp by closing it off and using a small oil filled radiator type heater. Then last week it was over 80 degrees, and we were playing golf in shorts and running the A.C. in the room with the tent. Through all of this the humidity was not an issue because the dew points remained really low. Now, the last 2 days, dew point has topped out in the 60"s, which increased humidity in the tent to 70% yesterday. So had to set the dehumidifier back up in the tent, because everything I've read about this strain indicates it is very susceptible to bud rot. Fingers crossed we get rid of some of this humidity for at least a couple weeks.
3/1 Guess the smell was too much for my Gnome, he won't stay standing. About 11 days left on this girl. Just plain pH'd water from here.
3/4 8 days left for this one!!!
3/7-3/13
3/7...final 5 gal flush with pH adjusted water today. Pre-harvest defoliation removing all large fan leaves, and as many smaller ones as I could reasonably access without disturbing the flower too much.
3/7 7pm. Into the dark room for final 36 hours before harvest. Will double check trichomes this evening after I receive the new macro lens for my phone.
Overall impression of this strain was it was easy enough to grow, but towards the end wasn't able to handle the full strength nutrient program I use. I just mixed to full strength and then diluted to 75% and that solved the issue. This plant wasn't as frosty as most I've grown, but has a beautiful smell in flower, and very colorful buds. Will update final tally in about a week when its ready for the jars.
Ok so 56 grams total, with 13g of that being trim and fluffy popcorn buds. It was a beautiful plant, lots of colors, great smell, and nice long cola's, they just never did bulk up like I had hoped. It's definitely time to spend the $$$$$ for a serious lighting solution. Anyone that has the scoop on an awesome LED or COB style light that would work really well in a 2x4 tent please feel free to drop me a line. Not interested in HPS or Halide at this time.
I know with the 2 lights I'm running I pull approx 352 watts from the wall. I'm not sure if more wattage is needed or if it's just the difference between these blurple style LED's and say for instance the Mars Hydro or Spider farmer? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
