As 8thchevron said this is actually a bract which keeps the sexual organ of the plant safe while it grows! It is too early to determine the sex of the plant but keep an eye at those growth points, if a little pair of white hairs/pistils pop out of them then it's a female, if a sack/banana/stamen pops out then it's a male. Nope! Thats just the home for whichever sexual organisms it produces. You gotta wait for the bract to form. You're probably only a few days out.
