This is my first grow. I wasn't planning on doing a journal for this but I went ahead and made it since I don't see any other Haze XL autos from GCS and this will make it easier to trace everything either way. I started it two weeks into the plants life, so I don't have early pictures. I am also only low stress training one of them since I've read different opinions on doing it outdoor, I also don't want to mess both of them up if something goes wrong training. Its a winter grow, I know its not ideal for a first grow but I live in California and I wanted to give it a try before the spring, so why not.

I decided to LST one and not the other for this grow to see if it useful outdoors. I finally tied one of them down this week lets see how it goes. The non-LSTed one seems to have a mutation in the color of the leaves. We'll see how that turns out, not worried about it now.

Both plants are coming along really well. The only real difference if the height for now. I am impressed at how tall and thick the stem of the non LST one has gotten. We'll see if they grow different in flower.

These Haze XL are looking really good. It rained pretty heavily 2 days last week so I didn't water or give nutrientes. They are in pre-flower as of the end of week 6, so it look like this strain will take a while. So far there are little differences between the LST and non LST one but the tie downs for next week will being to pull those little buds sites out, so they should start to looks different in the next weeks. They did have a couple of chewed up leaves after the rain so I hit them with some Monterey BT and then DE the next day, seems to have cleared that up. Looking like a good winter grow.

Both are looking great going into flower. Hit them with only bloom nutes this week. The non-LST plant looks great big fans leaves and a main stem that I know will make a fat cola. The LSTed one is shorter and packed together but now that I've pulled the bud sites out it looks like it'll produce more colas than the other one.

Another great week for these two. Bud sites are forming nicely on both plants. They have a little bit of burnt tips so I dialed back on the nutrientes and will give for one or two more feeds before going to phed water only. The LSTed plant has some leaf damage that looks like leaf miners, so I hit them with some BT while they're still in early flower. Hoping that will take care of it. The LST-ed plant has taken the training really well, many bud sites on the top of the canopy. I might have kept it too close to the soil, I hope that by triming some of the lower leaves I'll avoid any gnats or other problems. The non-LST is getting real tall, I have to dig a hole to keep it from reaching the top of the netting, even now it's pretty close. Bud site are forming nicely on that plant too.

These Haze XLs are beautiful and just look perfect in their own way. It rained all week here so I didn't water much and trained them less. The LSTed one had some leaf miners on them which I took care of with some Monterey BT and sprayed the other one while I was at it. This one has about 8 good budsites in the canopy. It also seems like the LSTed one is less into flower than the non trained one, seems like it slowed that down, looks about a week behind. I probably won't be trainikg for too much longer though. On the other hand, the non trained one is beginning to stack up nicely. Really looking forward to seeing them finish.

We got hit with a rain strom with very strong winds, upto 50 MPH for three days that hit all my plants pretty hard, especially the LSTed one which has a good amount of wind burn on the outer leaves. The heavy rain also means they still haven't gotten nutrientes, that's about two weeks now, they look ok but I think they could use bloom nutes before they do show a deficiency. To make things worse it seems like one also had some leafhoppers on it. I moved the LSTed one away from the rest of them and hit it Monterey Spinosad on Wed, went for the nuclear option because I wasn't sure how bad it would be after so much rain and days I couldn't properly check them. I follow up spray on Sunday, with some light defoliation as well. Now I think it was mostly wind burn cause of storm was really bad. On the other hand the non trained one wasn't hit as hard, with only damage on a few leaves. It's also beginning to stack up nicely. The LSTed one is still showing really nice bud sites that I'm sure will blow up soon.

These girls had a great week after the storms. The non trained one is flowering nicely and beginning to stack up. The LSTed one bounced back. I've stopped LSTing it since it looks like it's slowed down flowering significantly and I think it has some nice budsites already. Looking forward to the next weeks for these two. I also built a new grow table for them in a different spot in the house. They'll be getting more sun here and be less exposed to pests.

These two are a mixed bag. The non-LST one is doing great, really stacking up and with the flower fuel I'm hoping it'll get fat AF by harvest. The LSTed one is the problem. I'm not sure if the leaf damage is from the wind burn from the storms a few weeks ago or if it's pests that I'm not seeing. Any advise on this is appreciated, might post it as a question if I don't solve soon. I hit it with some DE at the base in case it gnats. Otherwise she is doing good. I ended up retieing the LST once more and now I think she's ready to flower with a nice canopy. It's crazy how much the LST has delayed flower though when compared to the non-trained plant. I also added a picture of the new grow table I made from an old bed frame.

These had a much better week. The non-trained one is still great, stacking up nicely and getting closer to harvest. I gave it nutes Sunday, that'll be the last or second to last time before switching to just Phed water. I trimmed a few of the big lower fan leaves that were blocking the sun, mostly the damaged ones. The non-LST is doing better than last week. I think it was gnats that were biting away at it but I think I got them under control now. The canopy is nice and even, I've been releasing some of the ties, only keeping down those branches that will tower over others, I'll probably let those go in the next week as well. I also sorta lollipoped this one since there were a lot of sites under the canopy that just couldn't get any sun. Harvest is getting close, I can smell it lol.

Both of these are looking close, but the non-trained one is closest. I stopped giving them nutrients but since my next grow is going to be a living soil, using KNF methods. I made LAB serum so I gave these plants the curds which are good for flower and will also add bacteria that will help them absorb the remaining nutrientes they need de the soil. I also did a foliar spray on the LST-ed one since the buds aren't as formed yet, I think they responded well to both. I'm keeping an eye on trichome but I think I'm at least a week out still.

Grow Questions

Are these nanners? Found them this afternoon, I looked all of the plant afterwards and these are the only ones. They are on the top of the main cola. I moved it away from the rest of the plants for now.

Correct, they are male stamens or "bananas". You can not breed female seeds 100% safely from banana pollen, but you will breed hermaphrodites or plants with hermaphroditic tendencies. At this stage and being so close to harvest, if the stamens did release viable pollen and if there were any viable pistils to land on and if there were any viable embryonic seed ovules still in any calyxes and if fertilization did take place, there would be no time to form any type of even rudimentary seeds before harvest time. That is a lot of ifs! You can safely leave the plant where it is, the chance of any successful pollination occurring is virtually zero. It will not cause your other plants to do anything strange either, stamens are not a disease or cause any sort of magic transference to induce other plants to do the same thing. It is all controlled genetically (or can in some cases, be caused by severe and prolonged stress). There is no need to "panic chop" your plant, or parts of your plant. I would also suggest harvesting pretty soon, much longer and your plants will be close to death. At this stage they are already breaking THC down into CBD and CBN, due to a virtually stopped metabolism, giving a heavy sleepy stone with very little THC "high" remaining. Hope this helps,........... Organoman. P.S. - If you would like to see more pictures of "bananas", go to my diary "cannabis conundrums" and in week 7 you will find them, along with other pictures of weird and wonderful things cannabis plants are capable of, including pictures of male and female primordia/pre-flowers.

Both of these are quickly coming to an end. The non-LST one developed a few nanners on the top of the main cola, I found about 8 bananas so I moved it away from the rest, I was unsure at first so I posted a question here and moved it away from the rest until I got some feedback. (Thanks for the answers!) I decided not to panic chop it and let her go a few more days at on a different side of the house, both because I wanted her to ripen a bit more and because I was too busy this weekend to chop it down. Today (3/7) I checked the trichomes and I did see a few amber on some buds, give that her has nanners I'll be cutting her down tomorrow morning, I'm hopping the nanners didn't impacted the plant, but I think it was a little to late for them to do much damage. Ok the other hand the LST one still has a lot of white hairs, some look pretty new. So I'm thinking of giving it some light nutrients (at 1/4 dose) next watering. I'm also going to continue foliar feeding it KNF inputs I made next week, I think this one has a week to two weeks left before the chop. Even with the nanners I'm excited for my first harvest of this Haze that's developed purple buds and nice fall colors.

One of these girls has come down a f the other is days away. I chopped the non-trained one on 3/8, last weekend I found nanners on it and gave it the chop a little early, at about 5% amber so not that early. It weighted in at 240 wet grams. The the LST one is almost ready, about 15-20% is beginning to turn amber as of today (3/14), I will be giving it a day or two more before the chop. Since I had to cut the other one early, I decide to let this one go a little more. I only have her KNF inputs this week. I will post the harvest result for both of them soon!

I will update again I have a dry weight but the whole process was great. I have been gardening for years but it was still a big learning curve. I'm glad I learn about growing with a three part nute program but I'm happy I'm doing living soil next. LST: Plant yielded 29 grams and the non-trained one 39. Overall I prefer the non-trained one. I know that the training isn't the only thing that affects the outcome but there are reasons aside from the yield difference that I liked it more. For one, it was easier to grow without worrying about training. The main cola in the non-trained one is just unmatched by any nugs from the LST one. Lastly, it finished faster. I noticed that the LST plant took longer to flower, which I thought would lead to a bigger yield, but in the end it might have just delayed the plant more. Again, these are conclusive or anything, but in my next grow I will be doing light training as opposed to going all one way or the other. I'm also switch over to living soil in my next grow which is exciting and already noticing a big different compared to this grow! For that see my newest diary. So I might not have learned anything decisive but it was fun to compare the plants and I look forward to developing my skills in this hobby.
