Soaked the seeds (3 Zkittlez Fem, 3 G13 Fem, 2 Random seeds [Garanimals & Forbidden Fruit]) in labeled containers over night. Decided to add the random seeds out of curiosity, both are several years old. Put the seeds in tap water around 12/12/2020 9:30pm and took them out 12/13/2020 around 12:30pm. All seeds have sunk to the bottom of the containers and one of the G13 seeds have started to open. Placed seeds in-between a double layer of paper towel that I had moistened with the water the seeds were in and allowed the excess water to drain from the paper towel.
12/14/2020 UPDATE: Woke up this morning to water the paper towels. Checked the seeds and two of each (Zkittles & G13) ended up sprouting. The middle seeds of both did not so I wonder if its was something related to being in the middle? Re-watered, let drain, and ensured the middle seed wasn't in a bubble of air. Neither the Forbidden Fruit nor the Garanimals have sprouted but that's not a big surprise.
I've been reading a few cannabis horticulture books but I'm more of a visual learner so I got sucked into YouTube university where I realized that I should be using dechlorinated tap water with a pH at 6-6.5 (please correct me if I'm wrong). Went to sleep feeling slightly stressed as I realized that I jumped a little too quickly into this process. There's still a few things that I still need, but I also may be overthinking it. Heading out to get a pH testing kit that included the pH up and pH down also getting my grow medium (Coco Coir) which I found at a local pet store for $4. I plan on using the jiffy cube initially and moving to a 4inch pot with a Coco Coir, worm casting, and perlite mix once they're ready for transplanting. **This is a mix I saw used in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8rkaXPKCQc *** I will just be using a 4-4-4 fertilizer initially while they are growing in the 4in pots... I need to do some more reading on nutrients before they need to be moved into the 2 gallon pots. I plan on gradually transplanting from jiffy cube > 4in pot > 2 gal pot > 3gal pot > 5 gal > etc...
While in this paper towel stage I'm taking the time to get to know my grow tent by monitoring the temperature and humidity throughout the day. It gets really warm in the morning when the sun is high and cooler in the afternoon so I will plan my lighting cycle around this. I'm planning on giving the seedlings 18 hrs of light once I move them from the napkin to the jiffy cube so this will be done between the hours of 2pm-8am. The humidity fluctuated between 43%-87.5% yesterday with the mini humidifier that I have. The goal is to not let the humidity slip under 50%.
