Germination
Hey all, Back again for a 2nd grow diary. My first diary was in July when I couldn’t get anything due to COVID lockdown. Now I’ve upgraded my kit ready for a much bigger and hopefully more effective grow. I started germination on the 15th December with 6 seeds. 2 solomatic CBD 2 creamatic auto 1 fat banana auto 1 norther lights auto As with previous grows,I use the paper towel in the closet method. So far I’ve had 100% success doing this with chilli seeds and cannabis, so I’ll stick with it. Today is the 17th As you can see, they all germinated but the two creamatic are a little behind. I’ll put them back in the closet for another 24 hours so they can have some quiet time. 24 hours ago the seeds were just popping so their growth over that time is pretty amazing. The fatbanana has already discarded the husk and popped its Cotyledons ( first leaves 🍃) amazing. The four sprouts were put in their 11l fabric pots - Poke a hole with a Sharpie, drop in the sprout and cover with about 1 cm of medium. Add a splash of 6.2 water to get them started and leave on a medium light for a few days until 🌱. My sp3000 was put on 50% at a hight of 50cm just to add some warmth to the tent. I’ll update with the creamatics when they shoot a little more. UPDATE. After a further 8 hours in the closet the creamatic seeds were both at a level where I was happy to move them to soil. Comparing the two picture it amazing how much difference there is in just 8 hours. This is my 1st lesson from my 1st grow - germination is delicate and happens quickly.

So this is week 1 - day 7 in soil for the multi grow. No point taking loads of pictures, all plants look the same at this age so I’ll save that for next week. Plus points this week. 5 out of the 6 seedlings are doing really well. I’ll come on to the other 1 soon. They’re all around 4-5 cm tall and have been under a clear plastic cup for a few days to get the humidity up. From here in I’ll start using a small fan to get them to toughen up as they’re starting to get a bit top heave and fall over. Negatives. One of my solomatic CBD seedlings got stuck in its shell so me being a heavy handed gimp managed to pull it off along with the leaf head. Stupid mistake but it happens. I germinated another seed ( that’s 100% success with 7 seeds ) and that’s now doing well with its head intact. It’s only three days behind the other plants so no huge issues. I’m really pleased with the sp3000 light. It’s running much cooler than my previous light and it’s silent as they don’t have internal fans. I checked out coco for cannabis on YouTube and he’s saying 50cm from the plant top is optimal. So I have mine at that hight and set to about 35-40% on the dimmer. Also really pleased with the quality of the biobizz light mix medium. That’s it for this week. Merry Christmas to you all 🎄

Welcome to day 14 in soil for my RQS multi grow. All six plants are doing well so this is a general update. This week I started using Easy Grow Booster Tablets. I haven’t used them before so it’s a bit of an experiment. 1/2 a tab in 6L of water at this early stage but I’ll increase the dose as they get bigger. No issues with the grow so just some pictures of them to track growth. Happy new year to everyone 👍🏻

Hi all. Started a 6 plant grow on the 17th dec but one of the plants is struggling. For the first 4 days they were under clear plastic beakers to up the humidity. On day 5 they were all looking fine but this guy had a few brown marks on the leaves and have now turned yellow.

Sorry for your loss. Your plant dying is probably the result of having been covered with a plastic beaker for four days. Cannabis is not a rainforest plant and does not require artificially high levels of humidity. The high humidity has probably provided the ideal for fungus to grow and this fungus has transferred to your plant, causing death. Also, plants need good air circulation, not only to strengthen them, but to also provide them with carbon dioxide and remove excess moisture from the leaves. The brown marks were undoubtedly caused by fungus and once the fungus gets into the stem, it is bye bye seedling. In reality, only clones/cuttings need extra humidity, because when freshly taken, they do not have a root system to provide them with water. Next time, keep the seeds moist and in the open air, just like Mother Nature has done for 100s of thousands of years and they will be just fine. Good luck and happy growing! ,..... Organoman.

Welcome to day 22 in soil for my 6 plant multi grow. A few changes since last weeks update. Again, five of the plants are doing well but one of the Creamatic seedlings just wasn’t happy so I decided to remove it and germinate another to replace it. I think it’s just a bad seed and nothing would have made it recover. This is one of the things I’ve learned from growing. Sometimes you can be the best grower but if the seed is damaged or bad it doesn’t matter what you do, it’s never going to produce anything. Take the loss and move on. This plant will be a couple of weeks later than the others and the light is at 75% so I’ll push this plant off to the side of the grow space and keep it out of the direct intensity. The other five plants are killing it. They all look super healthy and taking well to the LST I started last week. Biggest plant is the Northern lights which is already 30cm across followed by one of the solomatics and the fat banana. All three are exceptional. The other solomatic is a week younger so a good bit smaller but coming on nicely 👍🏻 Humidity has been a bit low but nothing too serious. I’ll keep an eye on it and adjust as required. It should sort itself out as soon as I start watering them more. Day 29 in soil for the auto multi grow. Nothing much happened this week other than the plants got bigger. I’m watering around 1L of water on average every 3 days. That’s usually how long they take to dry out. The light is still at 50cm and the dimmer in on 70ish % - I’ll increase to 100% once they’re in flower. The replacement Creamatic germinated and is doing well. I’m keeping it off to one side so it doesn’t get the full force of the light. I’ll gradually move it into the main area in a few days when it’s a bit bigger and can take the additional light. Very impressed with the growth of the northern lights and fat banana 👍🏻 Both are looking really nice. I was having issues with low humidity so to address this I changed to a cooling fan - hear me out on this 😀 I have a fan with a water tank that effectively sucks water droplets into the air to cool people down on hot days. In the grow tent it only reduces the temp by about 2c but it increases the humidity by around 20%. It’s perfect for what I need and I already had it buried in the garage 👍🏻 For 29 days old these guys are getting smelly 🤤, nice fruity notes but still surprisingly strong for their age. I’m feeling much more confident in this 2nd grow than I did with my 1st. I think it’s important to get the basics nailed so you’re not fighting problems later in the grow.

Day 36 in soil for the auto multi grow. So this week I f%&ked up and it’s a f%&k up I’ve made previously in my last grow. The Fat Banana was doing soooo well until I tied it down a little too well during LST and snapped the main stem. There was some slack in the wire but as the plant grew towards the light it went past the point of no return. Last time this happened I was able to splint the two parts together and get a health grow but this time there was no chance so a large chunk was removed. On the positive the plant looks health but I lost 1/3rd of the bud sites Ok, moving on. The other plants are doing well. No issues. Watering on average every 3-4 days of around 1.2L at 6.3ph Light still at 75% but raise to 57cm to account for growth. Note. When I took the pictures the light had only just come on so they look a little flat. They’re just starting to flower so that’s impressive for their age. I’ll now swap from easy grow to biobizz flowering nutrients This weeks lesson. Don’t be a click a tie down your plant too tight when LST

Hi all. I’ve seen some discolouration creep into some leaves on my fat banana over the past few days. I’ve just ( in the last week ) changed from easy grow during veg to biobizz biobloom during veg with a drop of cal-mag. The plant was damaged during LST so what’s the issue ?

Thanks guys. Water is in the high 7s so pretty hard. So far only one watering contained a small dose of cal-mag but I’ll remove it from the next watering which is due tomorrow. Run off looks fine so I’m discounting that. I was more concerned that the damage to the plant may have caused. The only leave effected are the older growth so I’ll monitor for any spreading

Day 43 in soil for the RQS auto multi grow. After last weeks issue with my Fat banana, problems have persisted with the plant. Details in the questions section - mottled looking leaves. I think this may be due to the introduction of a little cal-mag in the last feed when I live in a hard water area, so too much calcium. Only a theory but I have to start somewhere to diagnose the problem On average I water- feed every three days of roughly 1.3L I watered yesterday so we’ll see what happens. No real changes to the other plans. They look healthy and are growing well. I’m removing big fan leaves to aid air circulation and light penetration. I’m doing this slowly to prevent any shock. I turned off the water in my fan unit to drop humidity. It was 60-65% but now 45-50 % which is better for this time in the grow cycle. Fingers crossed that my fat banana gets better soon.

Day 50 for the RQS multigrow. Starting where I left off last week. The fat banana 🍌 is doing ok. I removed the damaged leaves as they were getting crispy- this wouldn’t harm the plant but it’s not helping either. I still don’t know the cause but I think it’s the cal-mag I added. One of the Creamatic plants also has a hint of the same issue, but nowhere near as bad. I haven’t flushed either plant as the leaf damage is only on the older growth and none of the new. The northern lights plant is doing well. Nice and lush with a vibrant look and feel. It looks healthy 👍🏻 The two solomatic plants are doing their thing. Not quite as big as I’d like but I’m growing buds not leaves so I’ll see how much weight they add in the next few weeks. I’m watering on average every three days with 1.5l of water @ 6.3ph. Biobizz bio bloom only. Much less than I see other people feeding their Autos but they plants are fine so I don’t want to introduce more stuff into the system if it’s not needed. I changed my tower fan for a box fan which spreads air more evenly around the tent. The plants are loving this and have visibility been more pert - preying. So, another week with no drama. I hope this continues 👍🏻

Welcome to day 57 of my RQS a multi grow. It’s actually day 56 but I’m posting a day earlier than usual 👍🏻 Ok, where to begin. Things have taken a change in this grow. Everything was moving along nicely until the fat banana started showing leaf issues. I’ve posted twice in the help section but there was no help 🤷‍♂️🏼 All of the plants now have the same issues so I’ve taken some pictures and hope someone can help. I watered the plants today with 6.5 ph. I usually water 6.3 ish so not sure if that would cause issues? 5 days ago I flushed the fat banana and that hasn’t appeared to help. It may have even got worse since then. Run off is around 6.3 for all plants - could this be causing lock out ? I’ve removed a few leaves today as a general tidying up and will post another help post Any suggestions welcome. I turned the light down from 100% to 75% - I also raised it from 50cm to 63cm. I did that last weekend and there has been no improvement but it was worth a try. Initially I used easy grow from RQS - just 1/3 of a tab in 6L of water. At flower I started to use 1ml of biobloom per L. I thought it may be a potassium deficiency based on the pictures I’ve seen online. Please help. I just want to get these kids though the next few weeks 👍🏻 Thanks all.

So here we are, day 64 of my RQS multi grow. This week has been total shit. Last weeks diary mentioned an issue with the fat banana which looked to be spreading to the other plants. After a couple of posts to the help section I didn’t get anywhere so last Sunday (6 days ) ago I flushed all the plants with 30L of ph balanced water. It took feckin ages to do but to save my plants and see their shiny green leaves, anything will be done. So roll on a week and absolutely no improvement and potentially getting worse. I’ve dimmed the light to 75%, and raised it a few cm so it’s definitely not that. Run off is 6.4ish so it’s not that. Feed is 1ml of biobizz bio bloom per L of water so it’s not that. I can only thing that the small dose of cal mag back in the first week of bloom gave them a touch of the gimps and caused lockout. Anyhow, I’m just trying to get them over the line so I have something useable. Pretty disheartening given that everything I can see is pretty much textbook. It’s hard to learn when you don’t know what you did wrong...... So, signing off with an attitude 🤬

Wellcome to day 71 of my RQS multi grow. It’s been a shitty few weeks for the grow and things aren’t getting any better. There is an underlying issue that I can’t track after multiple attempts and a flush a week ago. All plants are effected, ph is good, I’m not over feeding, light level has been reduced, temps are good so I’ve pretty much given up. To top this off, my digital microscope has shit the bed after one use so I can’t check the trichomes with any accuracy. I’m waiting for a new one to be delivered but we’re now at a point where the fat banana and the solomatic plants are ending and it’s a delicate balance between ending early while they’re still alive and leaving too long. The yields are low as the plants never really put on weight in this final stage due to the issue they’re having. That’s it

Not the best, but if you do, keep your flowers out of direct light - any light striking your harvested flowers will cause cannabinoids to degrade. Hope this helps,........ Organoman.

I agree with you guys. I’m just thinking of my options. I’ll probably go with my previous technique and set up a 6foot by 4x4 cardboard box with a small fan to circulate air. It’s going to stink up the place but I guess that’s better than mould or other issue 👍🏻

Hi, well you can do it, but it is not ideal at all, you will loose potency and you might have some problem with too much moisture in the box but if you use your extractor fan you might reach a good level.... Good luck

Welcome to day 78 of my RQS multi grow. I haven’t managed to get on top of my issue so I’m just nursing these guys to the end. Yield is lower but I’m not too bothered by that as I have wayyyyyyy more than I need. My fat banana and one of the solomatic plants have been in the dark for 48 hours so I’ll harvest them later today.( I’ll post weights next week ) Next will be the northern lights auto and a creamatic which I’d estimate have another 4-5 days left before they’re but into the box of darkness 👍🏻 I’d imagine there will be another week ( so two weeks from now ) for the remaining solomatic and creamatic. The smell is outrageous right now. My house has a real strong stink even though I’m using a bigger carbon filter than recommended. Ah well. I guess that’s part of the process. Edit - and update. Had some free time so chopped the fat banana and solomatic. Neither really piled on weight in flowering as that’s when the grow hit issues. Anyway the FB was 143g wet and trimmed The solomatic was 151g wet trimmed Not mad at either weight as -70% loss though drying is a good estimate so I’m at just over an oz per plant. I’ll update after drying with exact figures.

Welcome to day 85 of my RQS multi grow. Last Saturday I chopped the fat banana and one of the solomatics Neither really piled on weight in flowering as that’s when the grow hit issues. Anyway the FB was 143g wet and trimmed The solomatic was 151g wet trimmed On Thursday this week I chopped the creamatic 152g wet trimmed. I should really check on the FB and solo as they’ve been drying for 7 days. The three remaining plants still have the issue and I’m still no closer to tracking down the cause. The 2nd solomatic and northern lights should be ready this week, but I’ll update if things happen any sooner. I’m ok with the yield but I’d like to understand the issue as I’m going directly into another 6 plant grow. Next grow I’ll be changing the nutrients and seeing if that was the issue. For now, that’s it

Hi all. Quick question. Just finished a grow and wondered if people clean their fabric pots before reusing them. They obviously absorb some nutrients etc so how do you wash them ? Full cycling in a washing machine or just a bit of clean water to get the old soil off. Cheers

Hey there Onandon, The main idea is that you want to sterilize them, so the very best you can do is to put it in a pressure cooker for 45 minutes. this will sterilize them completely , otherwise any other way to wash them works, but it's less useful. Hope this helps ! 🚀

Welcome to day 92 of my RQS multigrow. I’m just waiting on the northern lights and 2nd solomatic plant to finish. They’re still ok, and just about ready for 48 hours of dark but they do look terrible 😢 Anyhow, they survived whatever issue they had, but with reduced yield. The 2nd creamatic plant in flowering just fine so probably 3 weeks or so left on that one if it remains health enough. After being flushed for the 2nd time and being watered with no feed for a week I’m trying to rule out over feeding. I’ll introduce some nutrients on this next water to see what happens. That’s it
