I’ve started the next perpetual grow cycle. I’ll need to fit this new grow in with two 1 gal pots from a current grow (Fruit Salad). So 3x three gal pots. One Gorilla Cookie, one Strawberry Pie and one Northern Light.
It will be tight. The overlap is 3 weeks atm. I had every intention of two grows overlapping by 6 weeks. This felt right with 2 tents. But I might end up with 2 grows per tent, 3 weeks apart each. If I still crop from each grow beginning at week 9 through to week 12, then I have a perpetual harvest.
UPDATE: I had my first two failures to pop with the direct-to-substrate method. The Strawberry and the Northern seeds. I actually recycled the soil from the last grow (Two Tents) for this one. I think that may have had an impact. The soil was flushed and a light blend to begin with. But it was full of roots. Perhaps they bound up the growth too much. They popped but died before reaching the surface.
I’ve replanted the pots with new soil in the centre. I had one Strawberry Pie and one Northern Light seed left. Come on babies.
The Gorilla seed popped and is a nice new little seedling. She will be a little older than her sisters.
UPDATE: the second two seeds have popped and are the seedlings are busy sprouting. I’ll remember to always use a bit of fresh soil to sprout when I am recycling it in future. They are about a week behind the Gorilla Cookie.
Because I replanted two seeds the Gorilla is ahead by a good week. Officially I should be in week 2 so I’m skipping week 1 to keep in cycle with the other grows. Here we go again.
The Gorilla is very short just like the one I am growing in another diary (Perpetual Pie). I really need to get on with the rooting and veg nutes, as I have only been feeding it water so far. The Strawberry and the Northern are at two weeks with their first set of true leaves out and second set just showing. They could handle a light feed. This soil is actually more depleted than the usual light biobizz i use, as it was recycled from the last grow (Two Tents).
All three sisters have responded well to feeding. The two late starters seem to have caught up to big gorilla sister in height already. They are all still small for 4 weeks. I did start them in depleted soil so it will be interesting to see what they do as a group. The Gorilla is still short and stumpy. It is going to be an interesting plant. I don’t think I will do any training to it at all. I can see it has started preflowering. So I’ve started the flowering nutes just for that one.
Projecting 4-6oz from this grow with three 3 gal pots.
I’m calling this a flowering week as the oldest plant, the Gorilla Cookie is in early flowering. It is still very short and will fit nicely into the tents all the way through the grow. No training needed I think. Not even going to knock the tertiary growth off this one. I’ll keep it as a comparison. The Northern and the Strawberry are in last week of veg. I’m giving them all flowering nutes from now on.
I’ve also shifted them all to the flowering tent as I’ve just harvested the last of another grow (Perpetual Pie).
The Gorilla has all its tiny cotton bud sites in place. Once again it hasn’t grown very tall. It is short and wide. The current Gorilla I am smoking is very strong. Got two more coming up after this as well. A great one to choose for stealth growing. The Strawberry and the Northern are stretching a bit more and are quite lanky already. I’m pulling them down.
Plenty of room in the flowering tent now I have harvested the grow ahead of this one (Perpetual Pie). Time to push the flowering nutes as far as I can for the next 2-3 weeks. The Gorilla will be hungry. The other two are one week behind at 5 weeks. Plenty of time for them to stretch.
The sisters are finishing their stretch. The Gorilla is at 7 weeks but the other two are only at 6. Bud sites are setting in everywhere. Some trichomes are starting to shine. I need to push the nutes while I can. Otherwise nothing much going on.
They have just been joined in the flowering tent by the next grow (King & Kong).
The stretch on the younger sisters is definitely over. The buds are looking a lot more mature and have good trichome and pistol coverage. But the buds all look a bit small still. Especially the Gorilla at 8 weeks compared with the first time I Grew it. I always seem to do this though... freak out about whether the buds are fattening up.
The Gorilla Cookie doesn’t look as dark or quite as fat as the first one I grew either. I think I probably could have fed her more (+1000ppm). But I was matching the Strawberry and the Northern in the feed, so went a bit light (-800ppm). They all seem to be slowing down on drinking too.
Maybe reusing older soil this time means I should use more nutes? But the Strawberry, once again has a little nitrogen overdose. Maybe just more flowering PK? I’m using Biobizz Light-mix. Not too much nutrients in it anyway. One day soon I’ll switch to making my own soil mix.
I think there was a problem with the air extractor that may have been there for a while. It wasn’t pulling air fast enough from the flowering tent. I have the extractor split between two tents. The air ducting to the tent got tangled and closed up a bit too much. I don’t think the girls have been getting enough fresh air!
Gorilla Cookie
This plant has not chunked up like the first one I grew. I blame myself. I don’t think I fed her enough or gave her enough attention. I’ve cut her down at 9 weeks and only taken 1/2oz. The strength of the strain is definitely there. I have 2 more that I’m growing (King & Kong) so I’ll try to get a better harvest from them.
Strawberry Pie
Exactly where it should be. Big sticky frosty bud. Pistols turning red. I’ve harvested about half of it. I’ll leave the other half as long as I can. Maybe take it down by next weekend.
Northern Light
This one has the least developed buds. Still 1-2 weeks away before any harvest. Buds look good. Not too frosty but fattening up nicely.
All the sisters are harvested now. I did the second half of the Strawberry mid week. I have just harvested the Northern Light. I think I could have done better with this grow. I didn’t pay it too much attention. I think the air filtering slowed down a lot too. I am going to spend more time with all my grows now. I’ve added a mini fan into the flowering tent. I’ll also start to use 1 gal pots exclusively. I can fit 9 in each tent. Do a mix of the current scrog with a perpetual sog. Yeah.
