Week commencing 2nd January 2021 Days 1 to 4, I'm mostly just letting these guys do their own thing. They get a light misting with some water twice a day and not much else at this point. Struggled at first with the humidity but I've found putting a damp tea towel on the ground next to the plants has raised it from 40% to almost 60%, which the seedlings seem to appreciate. In an ideal world I've have the night temperature a touch higher, but it's so bloody cold outside I'll take whatever I can get. On Day 5 the missus has decided to give the girls names. The '"unimaginatively named" Plant 1 shall from this day forth shall be known as 'Carrie', and Plant 2 'Amelia'. I think lockdown madness has well and truly taken over. Day 6 and my new humidifier has arrived. Have ditched the soggy tea towels and started on a constant very light cool mist, which has raised the humidity to 70%. The girls are still looking strong but the pots are quite light. Having not had any water in the soil since Day 1, I think we'll kick Week 2 off with a watering. No nutrients added so far and they won't get any for at least another week. If my root stimulant had arrived on time I'd be tempted to give them a drop but I don't think it's essential and the plants seem perfectly happy as they are for now. The girls just started to look a little thirsty so gave them 100ml of distilled at pH 6.5 on Day 7. Pretty happy overall with how the first week has gone. Onwards and upwards!

Not a lot to report this week. It's Day 11 and all I've needed to do is give them a light misting with some water once or twice a day. The soil is still quite moist and the girls both look very happy. They both jumped a bit in size last night and I suspect they'll be ready for transplanting in the next day or two. Both of the girls were upgraded into grownup beds on the morning of Day 12. Both had leaves extending over the edge of their pots and had quite a few roots poking out the bottom. Transplanting on the whole went well but Carrie lost the end of a root she got tangled in the bottom of the pot - hopefully she's not too stressed out by the ordeal. Once in the BioBizz All-Mix 3 gallon fabric pots they both got 250ml of distilled water directly to the base of their stems. Photos get taken at the end of each day so we'll see how they're taking to their new homes in the next 8 hours or so. There was some slight wilting on the edges of the leaves of both plants on Day 13 as they adjust to their new soil. By Day 14 it was hardly noticeable any more and new growth seemed fresh and strong. Amelia is growing wider as she focusses on developing her second set of true leaves, while Carrie is quite a bit smaller but is just a touch taller. I wonder whether the shock of losing a small part of her roots during transplant has caused her to concentrate of new growth rather than develop what she already has. Either way, they both seem happy. Ordered some root stimulant a few weeks back and it got lost in the post - as soon as it arrives I'll add a little to their next feed.

Kicked off the week with a good watering on Day 15. Each got 500ml of RO water mixed with 3ml/l root stimulant. The leaves on both plants coming from the first two nodes are looking a little bit shabby, whereas the Pineapple Express Auto that's sharing the tent looks a lot more regular. Could just be the phenotype. Will have to look into other people's grows for comparison. Day 17 and growth is good. I'm starting to think about doing a bit of training - might start with a bit of LST and manage with a bit of topping if required. For now I've anchored the stems with some pipe cleaners. Both plants got 250ml of RO water with 3ml/l of root stimulant on the morning of Day 18. Carrie is really quite compact and because the internodes are short there's very little light getting through the upper fan leaves. I reckon I'm going to top her fairly soon, then think about LST on those branches. Day 19 and I'm having a rethink about using LST early. The plants are short and bushy and I think it might work best to top them and train the new growth. The girls get thirstier by the day. Day 20 and the soil was pretty dry so they 330ml of RO water with 3ml/l of root stimulant across the surface of all the soil.

I cranked up the root stimulant and added 2ml/l of grow nutrients to their feed on Day 22, each one getting 500ml. They look good, a couple of slight mutations on Amelia but certainly nothing I'm concerned about. Carrie started getting some yellowing around the edges of a couple of her upper leaves which may be a response to the change in nutrients. Day 23 and I'm starting to notice a very slight clawing on both plants - must be the high nitrogen in the feed. Watered each plant with 250ml of RO water with just the root stimulant on Day 24. Might leave off the grow nutrients because I think the soil is hot enough for them for the time being. Both girls look healthy on Day 25 and are ready for the snip. Amelia has been topped, and Carrie FIMed, just above the 5th node. First time using either of these techniques (as this is my first grow). I'm happy with the topping but have no idea about the FIMing - I think I got it in the right place but I guess only time will tell. Left the girls to their own thing on Day 26 but started noticing some slight colour changes on some of the higher fan leaves and a slightly more pronounced clawing. Little disconcerting but I'll give them a day to sort themselves out. Haver moved the lights up a bit to account for the rapid vertical growth in both plants - could it be light stress? Day 27 and at first glance the plants both look healthy but the colouring and clawing has got a bit more noticeable. I'm not panicking just yet. Decided to give them a good watering with 1 litre of plain RO tap water until runoff. I'm getting a TDS reading of 330ppm which to my understanding seems little bit low. Could I have a deficiency of nutrients - is that what's causing the discolouration and clawing? Raised the LEDs to 24 inches because I suppose it could be burn from them. Day 27 UPDATE. My soil had turned hydrophobic! Rookie error. Turns out I'd let the soil dry out too much and it wasn't holding much at all. Whenever I watered it there was always a good amount of runoff, which I mistakenly assumed meant I'd watered enough. No, it was just running down a couple of channels in the soil and pissing straight out the bottom, hence why my TDS was 330ppm. No matter how much I tried to water the top of the soil it kept refusing to take on water so I resorted to slightly more drastic action - I gave them a bath. The bath was filled so the bottom half of the fabric pots were half covered, then left them there for 15 minutes to wick water up. Seemed to do the trick and now all the soil is wet through. I let them stand for a bit to drain any excess water out and took some more readings of the runoff. pH was 6.6 and TDS 1300ppm, which sounds a lot more like what I was expecting, even if the TDS is higher than I'd like. They're back in the tent now and hopefully this will help with future watering even if it doesn't solve the problem causing the leaves to yellow. Bit of a disappointing end to the week. A couple of large fan leaves lower down are really struggling after the soaking I gave them. I don't think it's so much that they didn't appreciate the watering, but I foolishly just plonked them back on the flat base of the tent and left them for the day. The bases of the pots were very damp when I got back at the end of the day with nowhere to drain to. Have built a raised mesh floor now to see if I can get a bit of aeration underneath and allow it to properly drain. No way those leaves are going to recover, but on a positive note the rest of the plant growth looks good.

Leaves are discoloured and clawed. Started about a week ago with yellowing of tips and clawing at top of the plants. Now lots of leaves are slowly changing colour. Thought it was nitrogen toxicity but my runoff is 330ppm. Are they deficient in nutrients?

How close is the light. Looks like the yellowing is start of light burn. But I believe you do have a nitrogen toxicity issue. Leaves won't recover. Feed a quarter or half dose nutrition. The plant has stored nitrogen. Still feed some the plant is using other parts of nutrition. Good luck and happy growing 🌲🌲🌲👊

The girls are coming into Week 5 looking a bit sorry for themselves, but hopefully now I've reinvigorated my soil things should correct themselves soon. I'm definitely thinking I'm growing 1 too many plants for the space. Carrie was really compact like a little green leafy ball, whereas Amelia had decided she wanted light from everywhere in the tent. When I began, it wasn't my intention to do much leaf removal until late on, but it was needed on Day 29 because not enough light was getting to new growth and air circulation low down was poor. I think they'll be happier plants for it. Both plants have really perked up on Day 30 and continue to grow strong. The pots had finally dried out enough to allow a watering on Day 33 - back to the same nutrients as before, each plant getting 500ml for now. Removed a couple of large fan leaves high up on Carrie - because she's so compact they were covering 4 new branches that had nowhere to go. Amelia, on the other hand, has spread quite nicely so no need to give her the chop. The girls are doing great after the last feed - I can't believe the difference between Days 33 and 34. Have had to start tucking leaves and branches to get maximum light onto new growth. At this rate - considering the lack of grow space I have - I think I'll be looking to start flowering sometime in Week 7 after I tame the canopy with some LST.

Growth really picked up last week and I've pretty much run out of space in the grow tent. Over the next few days I'll be training the branches down and defoliating before flipping to flower. Day 37 each plant got 1 litre of water with grow nutrients and I started defoliating some of the lower parts of the branches, then on Day 38 removed all growth below the top 3 nodes on each branch. I applied the last of my LST to Amelia on Day 40 and tidied up some of the growth under the canopy. This was accompanied by 1 litre of plain RO water to each plant and should set up a nice flat top ready for the flip at the end of the week. Carrie hasn't shot up quite like Amelia but I'm happy with her overall aesthetic and don't feel the need to tinker too much. Started the switch to flower on Day 42 with a change to 15 hours 'daylight' before going into 12-12 in Week 7.

Started the first flowering week with 1 litre of RO water with some root enzymes. First couple of pistils started emerging on Day 44. Day 47 and it looks like they've both started stretching. Really wish I'd only planted one of these girls now - space is at a premium in the grow tent right now!
