Hey everyone, thanks for checking out my grow diary! I'm calling it "Rookie Buds" because I am a rookie grower; this is in fact still my 2nd grow.
I bought some beans from Native Sun Genetics, just based on the name, Fuji Apple Cookies! i HAD to try this!! Then, I turned my Dad onto them and he picked up some Grape Stompers to try, so we're both growing them! Basically, he popped all the seeds and started the plants---the two I started with are two of the original "from seed" plants, and not clones.
Week 2 in their new home, they started showing signs they just wanted to be stretched out rather than topped----well, I maybe could have topped the smaller Fuji, because since it is the more sativa-dominant of the two, I knew later it would get taller. It's amazing how much bigger the Grape Stomper started out to be, but you'll see, the Fuji Apple Cookies will take over in a couple weeks, lol!
Also notice how much brighter green the plants are, vs. when I first got them home. ... I attribute that to me going very easy on the nutrients. I feel like I've figured out that "sweet spot" with these nutrients,
Growth was REALLY picking up on both of them, even with me being very easy on nutrients, and a lil bit stingy with the water! This and the previous week, there were several missed days of watering because the coco still looked and felt very moist & pots were "weighty". In my first grow, I had watered daily no matter what, & it led to fungus gnats & yucky green perlite, so this time I was more adamant about watching the plants and medium rather than sticking to a written watering schedule.
VERY IMPORTANT, rooks. . .... PAY ATTENTION TO THE PLANT AND THE POT!!. Just because you did a bunch of research and created a "perfect" water & feed schedule, you need to be willing to deviate from that as the plants or pots need.
I believe I flipped lights to 12/12 last week, but this is the week I started giving them Bloom oriented nutrients, and noticed more stretchy growth than before.
LOTS of defoliation happening this and last week! I try to let the plant do its thing, but i also want the branches to have good air space around them. I try to only pull leaves that are bunched up, low on the plant or big leaves that are in the way of bud sites or neighboring plants.
Top bud sites all showing consistent flowering about 17 days under 12/12. The very first signs of "budlets" forming was at 15 days.
Really having to keep an eye on height at this point! The Fuji Apple Cookies has gone NUTS! Check the pics, I had to bend the main stem inward and it still shot up over everything. I broke a fatty stem on the Grape, so once that happened I got kinda discouraged and stopped messing with the branches. Now, I just keep them defoliated, rotated and fed.
Smooth sailing again this week!! I just selectively defoliate to keep air flowing within the plant, and help plump up the lower buds. So far, so good---i accidentally pulled off a lower nug on the Fuji and it was SUPER dense.
More waiting.
..and waiting. ...and waiting.
Luckily, everything is going smoothly, I'm just looking forward to finishing this run. The smell gets stronger by the day. FloraGro cut out of the feeding schedule this week, will be tapering off the Micro soon.
It's the FINAL COUNTDOWN!!!!
Only 10-ish days to go! I've totally phased out silica, cal mag and Flora Gro. Added Terpinator since I'm using it in another grow, and my Dad gave me way too much so why not.
THIS IS IT! Last week of feeding, will start flush soon and get ready to cut these down and hang to dry. This grow has been an absolute BREEZE start to finish.
Wow, what an absolute BREEZE and pleasure to grow. I'm still learning but I am very pleased with the overall outcome. Was ridiculously sweet as i trimmed it, as it's curing it's "interesting", the slightest bit of green apple with an impressive overall fruity-sweet mildly skunky aroma. Flavor is still developing but even the early smoke is SMOOTH.
I'm really proud of this for a second grow! For the amount of space and the light that I'm using, i feel like my buds should stack better but at least I have real goals to meet for the next grow. I'm not looking to get lbs, but I do want great quality flowers that are visually stunning. I would DEFINITELY recommend Native Sun Genetics to anyone, beginner to advanced! This isn't a hi-yielder to start with anyway, but it's still one to look for!
VERY easy to grow. The end product of this one absolutely blew me away, it was so beautiful! The terpene profile is STUNNING; it has a true Concord Grape juice vibe with a very fuelly funk. Stunning, absoutely stunning.
Very happy with the results!! I hit just above my target. The curing is still under way, but it's already knocking my socks off! I would definitely recommend Native Sun Genetics to anyone beginner or advanced.
