Hello, and welcome to my first grow! I intend on this process being a learning experience - I like experimenting and learning from my mistakes. I have many years of cannabis and botany research under my belt, and I think I am ready to put what I've learned to use. I am starting very small scale to gauge my interest in the hobby, and to see if I have what it takes to grow frosty colas. If all goes well, I intend to scale-up later this year to include a much larger tent with many more plants. So far my experience has been great. I am using seeds from Amsterdam, thanks to Nirvana seeds. Their customer service is great, and I've heard superb things about the genetics they offer. Because I ordered my seeds from Nirvana around Christmas, they were gracious enough to send me a bonus gift pack of six unknown feminized seeds. Part of the fun of this first grow will be finding out what kind of strain I was sent - really looking forward to growing them out and seeing what kind of special treat I got! Follow along and help me I.D. these girls once more identifiers begin to show themselves. I will mainly grow indica-dominant hybrids. I plan on making bubble hash, edibles, and keeping a good majority of the flowers for smoking. For this grow, I will be attempting a mixed training technique. First, I will top the plant around week 3 to destroy apical growth. Then I will top the plant again after lateral growth for a total of eight cola sites. I then intend to use a scrog trellis to support the large buds from the manifolding technique. I will be going relatively light on nutrients to keep the flowers fresh and smooth tasting. Because I am a beginner, I am open to any tips and tricks more experienced growers have for me. So please feel free to critique my grow! January 5, 2021 (Germination, Day 1): Started germinating three Nirvana seeds (1x Gelato and 2x Unknown Feminized). Avg. ~65% rH and ~76℉. January 6, 2021 (Germination, Day 2): Kept paper towel moist. No changes to report. Avg. ~70% rH and ~79℉. January 7, 2021 (Germination, Day 3): All seeds popped. Unknown #1 needs another 12-18hrs of germination before planting (tap root still very small). Planted Gelato #1 and Unknown #2 in 40% Happy Frog soil, 40% coco coir, and 20% perlite in .65l "Jiffy" cups. Avg. ~67% rH and ~78℉. January 8, 2021 (Germination, Day 4): Planted Unknown #1 in 40% Happy Frog soil, 40% coco coir, and 20% perlite in .65l "Jiffy" cup. Soil of all three plants moistened on bottom of cup to promote downward root growth. No other changes. Avg. ~60% rH and ~75℉. Put all plants under humidity dome to promote quick sprouting. January 9, 2021 (Germination, Day 5): Unknown #2 has uncovered its own seed. Top-filled loosely packed soil to repair. Watered in AM on bottom of cup to promote downward root growth. Humidifier malfunctioned and tent temporarily spiked to 99% humidity. Remedied by adding ice to the humidifier to keep water temps cool. Experimenting with different fan combinations to dial in tent atmospherics. Current settings - Exhaust fan: Off, Intake fan: Running backwards at medium speed, Interior fan: High, Humidifier: Low -- these settings keep my tent at around ~70% rH and ~79℉ on average. Removed humidity dome. January 10, 2021 (Sprout, Day 6): All plants have sprouted. Gelato #1 ~1" with first fan leaves. Unknown #1 ~.5" with cotyledon only. Unknown #2 ~.75" with cotyledon only. Avg. ~67% rH and 80℉. January 11, 2021 (Seedling, Day 7): Gelato #1 full seedling ~1.5". Unknown #1 full seedling ~1". Unknown #2 full seedling ~1". Plants watered 08:15 w/ pH 6.6 corrected water. 6.55 pH runoff. No nutrients yet, beginning next watering. Avg. ~70% rH and 77℉. Anticipating some great growth next week!

Grow Questions

In the last 24-hours all three of my plants have started to show signs of blotchy/irregular colored leaves. When I touch the blotches they are crisp to the touch. I have a really cheap pH meter, and I've been feeding at 6.5 pH. Is this a pH issue?
Solved
Leaves. Color - Mottling

Hoi! 🌱

Looks good to me.😺 I had the same pH experience w/ happyfrog on my GG4 grow - and did same as you are doing to react. I orig watering ~6.6ph in veg and ended up having to bring it down to 6.0-6.3pH through most of flower to keep the pH down. (Runoff was typically 0.4 higher than what went in). Got a little dicey right at the end (was just flushing then so maybe ran out of nutrients in the soil or whatever that last week) and had to increase ph last week. Love the detailed notes you share.😃 Hey. You think you got enough light for flower? The 600W LED is like 130W actual power draw I think. I grew 2 years ago and plants stretched like crazy (2 plants) when I only had a similar setup.. I've been using the 35-40w(actual) LED watts/sqft formula for flower since then; You think you can keep them packed close enough together or you think a different formula?

GardenSchoolcommented4 years ago
@Plexi1000 - Yeah I am trying my best to keep an eye on the pH now - it definitely took me by surprise. pH is still reading a little high so I might lower even more to a ~5.8 pH solution. Thanks 👻 - I am trying to keep sufficient notes on here so I can refer back to it in future grows if I need to. There's a lot of knowledge and it's fun to experiment with different setups. Thinking about doing some auto flowers next go. As for my light, I actually don't have the right light indicated on this diary - which I didn't know until you pointed this out, I'll change it now. I am using a Bloom Plus LED with ~320W of actual power draw which puts me at ~40W/ft². I haven't had a harvest yet with this light, but I am hoping it does the trick this first run. So far though this light seems really strong and I haven't been getting much stretch out of the plants at all luckily. Not to mention the plants have seemed to grow very fast. Happy growing, man! 👽

Nice thanks for the suggestion I'll check him out. The learning process with these plants is never-ending! Just when you think you know what you're doing your plants start throwing a tantrum. Makes it a lot of fun to chase down problems, solve them, and then learn from them. Excited to compare our grow experiences. Take it easy. 👽

How do you have unknown strains? Freebies?
GardenSchool
GardenSchoolcommented4 years ago
Yeah they were freebies! I ordered my seeds right around Christmas and Nirvana sent me a free holiday pack of five unknown feminized seeds. Was quite generous of them. Super stoked to see how they turn out! 😸

Likewise! I've been stalking as many Nirvana grows as I can and they all seem to have super strong genetics from what I can tell. I'll be curious to see how our grows compare! Best of luck to you, man!👽
