RQS Nothern Light Automatic – My first ever grow
Howdy growers! :)
Welcome to the diary of my first ever indoor grow
At first I would like to specify the setting and setup I have chosen for my first run:
1x 90x90x180 Secret Jardin tent (Situated in my bedroom)
2x 120W QuantumBoard mb301h + deep red that I am going to run at maximum 100W each
4x 11L RQS fiber pot
1x 50L Plagron lightmix (with perlit)
1x Plagron Terra starter kit (Terra Grow, Terra Bloom, Green Sensation, Root Juice, Pure Zym)
1x VitaLink CalMag
4x Royal Queen Seeds Nothern Light automatic (Girls #1, #2, #3, #4)
I chose this strain after a some time of studying and considering, where Northern Light seemd to be a good option for me because of its relatively not intensive odor when flowering and strong indica genetics that could forgive me my possible newbie mistakes.
My plan is to feed them with 1/3 of Plagron recommended feeding plan, try to do some kind LST, to adjust them to the same height if possible, with lighting plan of 18/6 in vegetative and 12/12 in flowering stage but mainly to give them as much love as I can.
WEEK 0
Day 0.0
I planted the seeds straight into the soil, right in the tent with lights off and started watering them with a spray, periodicaly twice a day.
Temperature was about 22C and RH in the tent ranged from 75 to 85 so I just kept irigating and waiting for the girls to show up.
I have also put a bowl of water in a middle of the tent to higher the RH. (Or at least to fullfill my unstoppable experiment thirstiness :-) )
Lighting - OFF
Day 0.3
3 days after planting, Miss #2 made my day showing her self and being the first one off the soil.
There was no sign of life in other pots so I continued the same procedure as before in the same temp and RH conditions.
Lighting - OFF
Day 0.4
Just after I woke up I went to water the pots and found out that Miss #4 entered the our world and when I checked it 4 hours later, both #1 and #3 were up too. It really amazed me, how quick it was. Later that day I decided to turn the lights on, dimmed to 30W each.
I also have found a very tiny rest of the seed cover that was blocking #2 to spread its leaves completely, so I gently putted it away and now it seems to be fine.
Watered them with spray, but today I used Ph regulated water with Ph 6.5
Lighting - 2x 30W, 6/18
Day 0.5
Because all of them girls seem to be ready I decided to mix first 10L of the feeding solution to make them even happier.
I used: Terra grow - 8ml, Root juice - 5ml, Pure zym - 5ml into 10L of water with Ph 7,5
I mixed it all together and checked both, Ph and EC. Ph was 6.8 and EC 0.8 which was very close to the values i wanted to get so i decided to leave it as it is and I kept it stay until next day.
Lighting - 2x 30W, 24/0
WEEK 1
Day 1
All of them girls seems to be ready to begin our long journey so I decided to end the seedling stage and begin counting in a vegetative stage.
After 6 hours of dark period I changed the lighting to 70W per light and the time schedule will be 18/6 from now. Turned on the ventilation (without the carbon filter now) so the RH dropped to 50-60%. Temperature was 22C at night and 24C during the day.
I also fed them with the solution I have prepared the day before. I started with 400ml per pot and will see how hungry the pot medium is. I hope they will like it.
Later that day I decided to add another 200ml of the solution because I didn´t cover the whole surface before and the medium started to look dry at the edges.
I ended up with total dosage of 600ml/pot that day.
Day 2
Leaves got much bigger from yesterday on all of the girls but I noticed that one of the #4´s cotyledons is rolled down under the rest of leaves. And since I dont really know how to help her harmlessly I decided to not touch it and see if it gets better it self or what sort of defect will it cause.
When it comes to irrigation, the pots medium seems to be the same wet as yesterday so I am going to skip feeding for today.
Day 3
Today I irrigated every single pot with 800ml of my prepared solution.
#2 scared me when she bended down during the irrigation process so I had to make a support structure with a wire.
I am pretty sure it is caused by her height of 8cm, which is the same height as #4 that I equipped with the same structure as well. #1 and #3 are 6cm, with no signs of tending to bend.
The lights are in the same height and both powered with the same wattage so I am wodering why did they stretch so much when the others did´nt… I am pretty curious about how the girls will look next weeks.
Day 4
I am gonna skip the feeding just like in Day 2 because the medium is still pretty wet.
I only re-adjusted the support structure on #4 because she changed the direction she grows a little bit, when I recentered the pots under the lighting.
All of them seems to be pretty healthy to me and I hope I am not gonna hate myself when reading this statement in future. :D
Day 5
Eventhough I made the structure to support #2 from bending, I found her bended right on the on the medium so I re-adjusted the support properly. The medium was still wet so the watering I planned for today wasn´t needed. Also found some kind of mold on the wooden sticks with their names so I had to take them out to prevent spreading to the medium.
Day 6
The medium got ready to be watered again so I used 1L/pot of my prepared solution. This is gonna be the last dose of this solution. I am gonna higher the nutrients dosage for the next week feeding.
Day 7
I think that my girls didnt like the amount of solution they got yesterday. In other words I simply overwatered them. Its leaves got little thicker and wet and also started to head down. So from now I am just gonna let the medium to dry out. I am curious to see the consequencs its gonna have in future.
WEEK2
Day 8
The medium is still to wet to be watered again so I just loosened the arounds soil to make it more airy and easier to dry out. I did it twice a day and it seems to work well.
Day 9
Its much much dryer than before so I decided to add only 200ml/pot of my new feeding solution with following dosage:
5L of water
20ml Terra Grow
5ml Power roots
5ml Pure Zym
Regulated to Ph of 6.5
Honestly, not all of them are looking super healthy, but „ just“ with signs of deficiency and not excesses (if we dont count the water :D), which is makes me a little happier when facing my newbie moves.
Day 10
Girls showed up with first noticable signs of smell so I added the carbon filter to my tent.
I also did my first LST and since the girls are still pretty young, I decided to bend as much as possible but slowly and continually in next few days.
Day 11
Today I only re-adjusted the LST bendings and checked all my lovely girls.
#4 is having a real bad problem with Calcium. I am gonna give her extra dose of CalMag in next watering process.
Day 12
Re-adjusted LST again and checked #4 whose spots on the leaves has spread a lot.
I am gonna wait until she develops new bigger leaves and then cut the damaged ones to stop them stealing the nutrients to rest of the leaves.
Day 13
The medium got ready to water again so I went with 250ml/pot +100ml (1ml/L CalMag) extra for #4
#4 Is also very yellowish it self, so maybe also has Fe deficite which leads me to a think that I am giving her enough but she basically does not take it. I am gonna let her soil to dry out properly from now and will feed her separetly. Not only with different dosage of nutrients but mainly the different period and I will see. I only hope I will help her out. 😊
Day 14
More LST re-adjustments and I think I am getting the bend I wanted to get, which made me very happy. What doesnt not make me happy is #4 and her leaves problem that got to the next floor leaves as well so i decided to defoliate the first affected leaves as I planned. I am still thinking of possible mistake with yesterdays watering. I think I should have passed the watering of #4 to tommorow or later. I am pretty sure this is the kind of experience I have to go through to get skills and thats what i went in with.
I also checked the bottom side of each pot and found bunch of roots going through which amazed me and again filled me with happines.
WEEK3
Day 15
All girls are doing well in my opinion so I only did some LST re-adjustments.
Day 16
Checked the medium humidity and it seems to be ready for tomorrows watering.
Did some more LST re-adjustments again.
Day 17
Today I prepared 5 liters of feeding solution with 25ml of Terra Grow, 5ml of Root Juice and 5ml of Pure zym. Ph was 6.5 without a need to regulate. I used 1L per pot. per pot.
All the girls are growing pretty quick so I re-adjusted the LST again.
Day 18
Only checked how they are doing and tightened some LST strings.
Day 19
The girls are obviously eating more than ever before and they also like the dosage. Medium got a lot dryer in just two days but I am gonna continue my current plan which is watering on every 4th day.
Day 20
Inspected the medium again and its ready for tomorrows watering. Also re-adjusted the LST once again. I found that activity so exciting…
Day 21
Watering day is here so I mixed a new solution again. Went with the same dosage as last time. That means 25ml of Terra Grow, 5ml of Root Juice and 5ml of Pure zym. Ph 6.5.
I used my last dose of Terra grow but luckily they seem to start blooming very soon.
Odour got more intense. Honestly I did not expect that amount of smell in my room. :D
They do big steps every day now so I did some LST re-adjustments again.
#1,#2 and #3 seems to be very vital to me. Their main stemps are thick and still pressing against the LST strings.
#4 got much healthier than before. Seems that she likes the love I am giving her.
WEEK4
Day 22
LST re-adjustments
Today they scared me because I found the lighting turned off when it was supposed to be on and I dont really know how long time did it take. In my opinion there was a electricity break out during the night period of my girls and after that the lights didnt go on because the timer reseted it self..
If so, its means i turned the lights 4hours late, which is not that bad. Hope I am not wrong and it didnt take longer.
Day 23
LST re-adjustments
Day 24
Today I only checked the medium before the watering planned for tomorrow. All girls except #4 are eating pretty well. #4 is still pretty damn wet. I dont know if i am right but i think she is not getting the nuts because her root system is not developed that massively as at her sisters.
Day 25
Today I prepared 5L of feeding solution with 20ml Terra grow, 5ml Root Juice, 5ml Pure Zym with total Ph of 6,4 with no corrections. Girls look like they are about to bloom so I decided to lower the dose of grow nuts in this last veg feeding. I am very happy they lasted to the 4th week of veg stage.
Day 26
LST re-adjustments
Day 27
Visual check only and everything seems to be OK.
Day 28
Visual check and also checked the medium which is pretty ready for tomorrows feeding.
I am getting worried of #4 which looks weird…
WEEK5
Day 29
Last night I dimmed the lighting up to 110W per each light so 220W in total and I am gonna run them in a 12/12 time schedule from now.
I decided to continue feeding my girls with veg nutriens for one more week but with a lower dose than I did last time so I prepared 5L of new solution with 18ml Terra Grow, 5ml Power Roots and 4ml Pure Zym with total Ph of 6,6. I used 1,2l per pot and I got 200ml of excess water per each pot..
Day 30
Today I found some little balls developing on #4 main stemp. That validated my suspicion about #4s sexuality. I decided to put that hermie out of the tent so I just inspected quickly how was its root system and I buried her. RIP #4, I did my best and I hope I didn´t stress you and you were just born like that.
Day 31
Today I noticed some leaves being kinda weak and bended down which scared me but I found out quicky that they are only thirsty. Maybe the higher wattage increased the water consumption? Seems that I will have to update my feeding schedule from every 4th day to every 3rd day.
Day 32
All the leaves are much weaker and down than yesterday so I prepared 5L of new solution with dosage lowered to 5ml Terra Grow, 4ml Power Roots, 4ml Pure Zym and extra 3ml of CalMag.
Hope they will recover soon. Honestly, I didnt expect that consumption increase but seeing my poor girls that weak really taught me a new thing I will prevent next time. 😊
Day 33
Yesterdays watering helped a lot. I did a little defoliation on each of girls.
Day 34
They must have been horribly thirsty before previous watering because the medium is ready to get the moisture again. Today I went with tap water with regulated Ph of 6,5 and I used 1L per each pot with a little runoff (like 50-100ml)
Day 35
Just looked into the tent if they are alive.
WEEK6
Day 36
I only checked the medium before the watering planned for tomorrow. Seems to be OK but now, with the passage of time, it occurs to me that the girls may have experienced nitrogen toxicity.
Day 37
Today I used 1L of water with Ph of 6,5 per each pot.
Day 38
Regular visual check.
Day 39
#1 lower leaves are getting a little yellow and it looks like nitrogen deficiency to me. I will see how they will react to tomorrows watering.
Day 40
I decided to start using bloom nuts from now so I prepared 5L of new solution with 15ml Terra Bloom only. Ph 6,6 without regulation. I also wanted to use both Root Juice and Pure zym, but I was in hurry and forgot about them.. :D Will just see how they like the dose.
Day 41
Regular visual and smell check
Day 42
Medium is so dry that I could water it today but I have no time so I will do it tomorrow as I planned.
WEEK7
Day 43
Today I prepared new solution again. Fortunately not in hurry :P
5L with 20ml Terra Bloom, 5ml Pure zym, 5ml Root juice regulated to Ph of 6,5. I used 1L / pot with a the same little runoff as last time.
Also did some defoliation which I was doing continually since the buds got little developed.
Day 44
#1 has her low leaves yellow on one side of the plant. They looked little nitro toxic but now it seems like nitrogen deficiency. I am little confused now.
Day 45
Regular visual check before the watering. Seems to be ok, if we dont count the yellow leaves. Maybe the only suspicion I have is about the leaves size. Seems to be small and slow developing for some reason…
Later that day I decided to water again because the medium got dry faster than I expected.
Day 46
Visual check.
Day 47
Visual check.
Day 48
Medium si getting ready for watering, which I am gonna do tomorrow.
Day 49
Today I watered my girls with CalMag water and i gone with 1ml/L.
WEEK 8
Day 50
Visual check. Medium seems to be ready for watering.
Day 51
Today I prepared 5L with 20ml Terra Bloom, 5ml Pure zym, 5ml Root juice regulated to Ph of 6,5.
I still didnt figure out #1’s problem that is affecting the new leaves as well.
Day 52
Visual check.
Day 53
Today I gave my girls only water with Ph of 6,5. As usually 1L per pot.
Day 54
Visual check.
Day 55
Visual check.
Day 56
This time I tried to mix 5L with 1ml of Terra Grow, Terra Bloom, Green Sensation, Pure zym, Root Juice and CalMag. Hope they are gonna like it.
WEEK 9
Day 57
Visual check.
Day 58
They must have been very thirsty because the medium is ready for watering. Today I went with tap water without any Ph corrections so its like Ph 7,1
I also did huge defoliation. I took off most of the yellow leaves from #1.
#3 Seems to be developing a lot faster other girls. Their buds are actually getting the mass already.
Day 59
Visual check.
Day 60
Visual check. Medium is ready for tomorrows watering.
Day 61
Today I prepared 5L of feeding solution with 20ml Terra Bloom, 5ml Green Sensation and 5ml CalMag with total Ph of 6,5 (corrected). All the girls are suffering with yellowish leaves. Still haven´t figured out what is going on. ☹️
Day 62
Visual check.
Day 63
Visual check.
WEEK 10
Day 64
Today I gave my girls only water without any corrections so it was like Ph of 7,2.
Day 65
Visual check.
Day 66
Visual check.
Day 67
Same formula as last time. So 5L of feeding solution with 20ml Terra Bloom, 5ml Green Sensation and 5ml CalMag with total Ph of 6,5 (corrected). 1L per pot.
Day 68
Visual check.
Day 69
Visual check
Day 70
I decided to flush all plants because my suspicion of nuts lockout, cause by wrong Ph of medium so I am gonna just water with Ph of 6,5 from now. This time I used 3L per pot.
The runoff was about Ph of 5,8-5,9 on all of my girls so i will surely do one more flush in next few days.
WEEK 11
Day 71
Visual check.
Day 72
Visual check.
Day 73
Visual check.
Day 74
Another flush with 3L per pot. Todays runoff was about Ph of 6,0-6,1 which made me a happy to see.
Day 75
Visual check.
Day 76
Visual check.
Day 77
Visual check.
WEEK 12
Day 78
In my opinion the flush have partly done its work. Partly, because it didn´t stop the yellowing but slowed it down radically which was enough to meet my expectations. So I prepared new solution with 15ml Terre Bloom, 4ml Green Sensation and 3ml CalMag. Total Ph of 6,3 with no corrections. I still haven´t decided if this feeding will be the last before final flush.
Day 79
Visual check.
Day 80
Visual check.
Day 81
Visual check.
Day 82
Visual check.
Day 83
Today I went with Ph water with ph of 6,4 and used 1,5L per pot.

Visual check.
WEEK 13
Day 85
Visual check.
Day 86
Visual check.
Day 87

Day 88
I have been to a growshop few days ago and I have bought AN Flawless Finish so I mixed water with 1ml per liter and corrected the Ph to 6,5. Then used 1,5L per pot.
Day 89
Visual check.
Day 90
Visual check.
Day 91
Today I went with the same formula as last time and used 1,5L per pot again.
HARVEST IS FINALLY HERE! :)
After 6 days of drying in my growbox I have let them buds sit in jars for 3 weeks and now they are finally ready for consumption.
Honestly I was a little sad because of the look of my buds when I was trimming them, but as the time has passed and their weak structure got a little harder after the curing, it really made me smile.
Thank you all for reading my first diary, which is full of mistakes and I would be very thankful for any kind of critics!
I am pretty sure there is a lot of bullshit written and I decided to not edit it . Even I do smile, reading what a stupid things I did but that´s where the experience comes from.
It was such a great experience and I am already looking forward new challenges this great hobby provides. Stay safe, Keep growing and sharing! :)
