Taito 26/02/2021 - Today at 18:00 I started germinating 8 Northern Light Automatic seeds from Royal Queen Seeds in a damp paper towel inside a metal box. I simply moistened the paper towel inside the metal box and dropped the seeds onto it, covering them with the towel as well. I chose this method given the good results I've had with it. Let's hope all 8 seeds germinate, guys 🙏 28/02/2021 - All 8 seeds have germinated and have sprouted their first root. I've transferred them to their final pots; you'll see there are 3L and 11L pots. The diary will follow the 11L pots. You'll also notice that one of the 3L pots has a different substrate (universal substrate) since the 50L bag I bought of BioBizz Light-Mix wasn't enough for everything. I've watered the substrate adding 4ml/L of Root-Juice to the water for root development. I'm aware that I'm taking up a lot of space with so many plants, but I want to see the result (or failure) 🙏 Now I just patiently wait for them all to pop up 🌞 Thank you very much for stopping by 😏 1/03/2021 - Everything is the same, except for Northern 5, which is already showing its first leaves above the soil. Let's hope that soon all of them follow the same path. I have the 2 LED lights set to 25 - 30% power and about 65 cm away from the soil of the tallest pot. If I see they are stretching too much as they come up, I'll lower the light a bit, and in this first week, I might also lower the dimmer to 20%. 02/03/2021 - It seems that more little plants are starting to pop up. Let's hope that by today or tomorrow they all have their heads above the soil. They've popped up: Northern 1, Northern 2, Northern 5 03/03/2021 - They keep progressing day by day, only Northern 8 and Northern 3 are yet to pop up (I hope they do tomorrow). 04/03/2021 - It seems that only 6 of the 8 seeds have popped up. I'll leave the pots for a few more days to make sure they really haven't made it (but I suspect they won't). In any case, I'm happy to see the 6 little ones growing. Northern Light 1 seems to have 3 leaves (a small mutation), I hope it's not a problem for her. They all seem healthy. Tomorrow they'll start their first vegetative week.

Taito 05/03/2021 - I watered the plants with 100ml of water per plant (without any type of fertilizer for now). They all look happy. 08/03/2021 - Today I'm definitely removing the 2 pots of 3L with the 2 non-germinated seeds to make space in the grow cabinet. Label No. 3 now represents Northern Light No. 7 (from now on it will be Northern Light No. 3). I'm still watering only with water at a rate of 50ml per plant. The relative humidity conditions are at 45% and an average temperature during the day of about 25C (20C at night). I've increased the light intensity by 5% (to 30%) and I'm keeping the distance from the plants to the lights at 60cm.

Taito 15/03/2021 - Fourth day of their second week and everything seems to be going quite well. Today I watered them adding organic fertilizer at a rate of 1 ml/L (the manufacturer recommends 2.5 ml/L for 2 waterings per week). I decided to start with a very low dose of nutrients to avoid stressing the little ones. I'm really looking forward to seeing if they react positively to their first watering with fertilizer 🙏. I'm a bit worried about the low humidity (between 30% and 40%) as well as the temperature exceeding 25°C that I have in the grow cabinet; but it seems that the plants are not suffering too much from that; in any case, I increased the extraction power to see how these 2 variables behave. Thank you very much for stopping by and any advice or comments are very welcome 😏.

Taito 19/03/2021 - First day of their third week. Today it's time to water them again, but only with water. I'll wait for the next watering to add organic growth fertilizer again (this time I'll increase the dose since they'll be in their third week and I hope that by the fifth week they'll start showing signs of entering the flowering stage). It seems like everything is going pretty well; I've managed to increase the humidity and control the temperature a bit better. I should mention that Northern Light 4 seems to be a bit behind the others, but not by much (not a big deal). I've also applied LST to all the plants, but it's the first time I'm doing it and it makes me a bit anxious since I don't know if I'm doing it correctly. I hope their progress is positive and that I can increase the yield of the little ones while controlling their size inside the grow cabinet 🙏. Thank you very much for stopping by and any advice or comments are very welcome, friends 😏 20/03/2021 - Watered again adding 1.5ml/L of organic growth fertilizer. Let's hope they respond well to the fertilizer. I'm happy with the progress from one day to the next after applying LST to all of them. A pretty positive change can be seen. I hope everything continues to go well like it has so far 🙏

Taito 26/03/2021 - I watered the plants only with water at a rate of 500ml per plant. I've noticed that some of them are starting to show signs of flowering (it seems very early to me, honestly, I expected these signs at the end of week 4 and not week 3). This has only happened in Northern Light Automatic Nº3 and Nº5, so I will continue to observe this week as a vegetative phase. In any case, I’ll have to keep up with their pace 😎 I will wait to see the signs of flowering in all of them before changing their feeding to promote fruit formation. I hope everything continues to go well like it has so far 🙏 I'm a bit concerned about the color of the tips of the new shoots, although my feeling is good. If you think you can offer any advice or comments on this, I eagerly await your feedback and tips. Thank you very much for stopping by here 😉 29/03/2021 - Today I watered adding organic flowering fertilizer (2.5ml/L) since all the plants have started to show their first white hairs. I also lowered the temperature of the solution with which I water the plants as they seem stressed from the heat (I also increased the extraction and ventilation in the growing space). Other than that, everything seems to be fine; except for the yellow tips of the new shoots on the plants. I hope that with the changes made in ambient temperature, solution temperature, and humidity in the growing space, it will be resolved. Thank you very much for stopping by here and I look forward to any comments or advice you can give me 🙏

What’s happening to my plants? I’ve only watered them with water since I noticed these problems. Can someone explain to me why these new shoots are bending and have a yellow color at the tips?

Hi Taito, you have root problems from N excess combined with a bit of overwatering. Basically you can see this from the dark green leafs, the shiny aspect of the leafs and the downward pointing tips and with nutrient burn signs. Just reduce the amount of N and follow a "plain water plain water feed" schedule, so two times only water one time with feed (over ten days or so 3 waterings) . The RootJuice is also causing problems, try to replace it with something better for the problem roots such as humic acid, enzymes, or beneficial bacteria. For the overwatering issue, you can see this from the puffy space between the veins of leafs. Try to follow a more strict wet dry cycle. have you tried the "lifting pot method" to make sure you dont over water again? Hope this helps ! 🚀

Taito 03/04/2021 - Second day of their 5th week. Everything seems to be going more or less well, although I'm not very satisfied with how the plants have been developing these last 2 weeks (due to the shoots with yellow and twisted tips; I still don't know the causes). It's not overwatering and also not too much nitrogen, as I stopped watering with organic growth fertilizer at the first signs. I hope someone can help me with this. Today I watered them all, adding organic flowering fertilizer at a rate of 2.5ml/L. It seems like the new shoots want to recover little by little, but I'm afraid this will affect the yield of the final harvest. I've also changed the light schedule to 12h/12h. In any case, I hope they recover soon and the plants give their best. Thank you very much for stopping by, and any comments or suggestions are very welcome.

Taito 10/04/2021 - Second day of week 6. It seems that the plants have recovered well after the supposed excess of nitrogen and watering. Yesterday I watered them only with water for the second consecutive time to avoid overfeeding the plants. The next watering will be with organic flowering fertilizer at a rate of 2.5ml/L. I have also been raising the lights in relation to their tops; as well as increasing the intensity of the lights, which is now at 100%. I’ve managed to slightly increase the humidity in the grow space and also lower the average temperature a bit, and it seems to have been beneficial as well. By advice, I’ve decided to leave 18 hours of light. I hope it’s worth it 😎 I’m happy with all of them, although Northern Light 6 seems to not want to flower and shows no signs of it (we’ll keep an eye on it 😉) As always, thank you very much for stopping by and any comments or suggestions are always very welcome ✊

Taito 16/04/2021 - First day of week 7. Everything seems to be going more or less well. Northern Light Automatic Nº1 and Nº2 were lacking water, which is why their leaves look a bit droopy in the photos. The rest of the plants, except for Northern Light Automatic Nº4 and Nº6, are the only ones that don't seem to be doing very well. Nº4 has maintained the same faded color since it sprouted and seems to be growing slower compared to Nº1, 2, 3, 5, and 6. With Northern Light Nº6, it seems like it doesn't want to flower (we'll patiently wait for it to do so 😉). Overall, considering this is my first indoor grow, I'm satisfied. I think the 11 L pots are giving me more trouble with watering (it seems I can't quite adjust to their needs like I did with the 3L pots). Learning every day that goes by and keeping an eye on the changes and information the little ones might show. You know, any comments or advice are always welcome. Thank you very much for stopping by😏 22/04/2021 - I've done a bit of defoliation on all of them. I'm also sharing with you the photos of the buds from Northern Light Automatic Nº4. I've never seen anything like it, but this plant has been weird since the beginning; I think it's a genetic issue with the seed in question.

Taito 25/04/2021 - I'm considering removing Northern Light Automatic No. 4 and No. 6 from the grow due to their low yield. What would you all do? The other plants seem to be doing quite well. I’m still watering them all and alternating organic flowering and bud fattening fertilizer. Throughout today, I’ll try to update the photos of the grow and the plants as of today; day 59 and not 56, so you can see how they are today. Taito 02/05/2021 - 5 weeks into flowering for them. They look amazing and it seems like this is starting to be a countdown 😊 Finally, and much to my regret, I’ve decided to cut Northern Light Automatic No. 6 since I’ve been feeding it heavily with organic flowering nutrients for 4 weeks and it hasn’t shown any signs of flowering up to today 😟. In any case, it seems that having recovered space in the grow cabinet has done well for the 5 remaining little Northern Light Automatics. Happy for them 😏 I think in about 2 weeks, Northern Light Automatic No. 3 and No. 5 will be ready for harvest. Northern Light Automatic No. 1 and No. 2; and also No. 4 will follow suit. Very happy, joyful, and satisfied with the grow up to today 😊 Thank you very much for stopping by and any comments or advice are always welcome ✊ Cheers!!!

Taito 07/05/2021 - It's week 10 and it seems like everything is getting closer to harvest 😊 Starting this week, I will only water Northern Light Automatic Nº3 and Nº5 with water to be able to harvest in 1 or 2 weeks. Do you think they will be ready by then? Northern Light Automatic Nº1, 2, and 4 will follow the same pattern as Nº3 and Nº5 but one week later. Thank you very much for stopping by and I'm looking forward to any comments or suggestions. Cheers!!✊

Taito It has been a fantastic harvest considering it was my first indoor grow and I also made a few mistakes along the way. With the weed already dried and uncured, it has an amazing earthy and pine flavor, with a sweet tone at the end of each hit. Thanks to RQS for this wonderful auto strain that respects an old school classic. Simply fantastic 😻

Hey, way to grow👍. If those plants are autos I would leave your lights 18 hours on 6 hours off, only photoperiod plants need the 12 hours of light. i think you could dose those plants with a flush of water, 1 liter at a time slowly until it comes out the bottom, this lets you know how much water it takes to soak the soil. You will then know when to water just by the weight of the pot. Hope this helps. Keep up the good work👌
Taito
Taito commented5y ago
@northernMike, Thank you very much for the advice on watering 😉 I'm changing the schedule for the autos due to costs on the electricity bill; I'm not sure if it really pays off in the end to leave 18 hours of light for the autos. Do you think there's a big difference by the end of the harvest? This is my first indoor grow, and for the next grow, I could leave 18 hours of light if it's really worth it 😊
northernMike
northernMike commented5y ago
@Taito, It's ABSOLUTELY worth it, autos don't need the light change to flower, they are on a timeline, like a race to the end. By switching to 12-12 you are losing 6 hours of bud growth everyday. Some people run their lights for 24hrs for the first 2 weeks then switch to 20 on, 4 off, I like 18-6 just to give the plants a little rest. Smok'em if you got'em!!

Taito commented5y ago
@northernMike, You've convinced me, I'm switching to 18h 😉 I'll keep my fingers crossed with the electricity bill 😬

Good morning👊. about those two plants #4,6 if you have the room and they are not in the way I would continue to grow them, Your light is on anyways, I would feed them heavy and see what happens, they might surprise you( my opinion). Grow Big!!

@northernMike, Thank you very much for the advice, buddy 👍 I cut plant No. 6, it still wasn't showing any signs of starting to flower and it had been 4 weeks on strong flowering nutrients 😞 I've decided to keep No. 4. These days, it's been positively noticeable having gained space in the grow cabinet after cutting plant No. 6. I hope Northern Light Automatic No. 4 gives good results in the end. Thank you very much for the advice and for stopping by the diary. Cheers, buddy ✊
