I soaked my seeds in water for 12 hours along with a 12 hour soak for my Rapid Rooter plugs. This was my first grow so I opted for the plugs and I wish I hadn't now. I don't think I didn't put my seeds deep enough but maybe not covering them with a portion of the plug was my issue! In any event, I had 4 of the 14 have issues with helmet head, and 2 of them straight up didn't make it. Those 2 are shown in the couple of photos that are from day 3 after soak. Then a bunch of photos 9 days after originally plopping them in the water, but only the ones that survived. The Vineyard and the Super Lemon Haze still had yet to begin germination at this point.
Didn't take the greatest pictures this week, and I think the plants suffered from super low initial humidity. After germ and taking off the clone dome I had them under I put them in the tent with no humidifier at like 18% RH :((((((( Bought a humidifier within a few days but I think it for sure slowed growth but I could be wrong! I planted 2/12 and these pictures are from 2/21-2/27 so not exactly week 1 unless you count germination as a whole week! EDIT: Coming back to write some more now that I have learned and continued to grow. I can't believe I had my babies in 18% RH and I wasn't watering them more than once daily. Talk about NEGLECT. Hoping the more lessons I learn the better plant dad I can become :)
This week the plants really exploded in growth, or at least it appeared that way to me. After getting off to a rocky start, the plants seemed to do as they do best and GROW. So thankful to be growing resilient plants that stand up to all my abuse! Hoping that as I continue to learn they won't have to put up with much more of it, haha. Happy growing!! 😰
EDIT: Looking back on it I think they exploded in the way they did for two real reasons. Getting my environment more dialed in and having that humidity where it should have been to start couldn't have done anything other than help. Further, I did as I said I wanted to and got out of the way!
Began LST this week! Topped all of my gals, except the 2 Vineyard plants, and bent em OVER. Plan to wrap the stem around as it continues to grow, for as long as we get growth that direction at least. Looking forward to all the great things to come. Going to be sex testing in the next two weeks just to see ahead of time which of these plants is worth keeping around all the way through to flower. Really enjoying the process and HAPPY GROWING FOLKS :)
transplanted up to 3 gallon hempy buckets this week. also found out that in coco you are never supposed to give water without nutrients and you are supposed to always feed, even if it is just a light feed. i had no knowledge of this previously! definitely experienced some transplant shock and i think i have stressed them quite a bit in their short month of life but they are still growing incredibly!
I have had problems with snapping bud sites off when attempting to train during my entire grow, but I have been getting more and more skilled at bending them over without breaking them. I didn't quite do a good enough job (in my opinion) of spacing out the Colas as I was originally going to ScrOG on top of my LST and Topping, but now I think I will just see how they grow. I wish I was more confident in my skills and could try to use the screen I bought, but I am very worried the stems are now to woody/hard and will start breaking if I attempt to put the screen on now. I plan on flipping to flower in the next 5- 6 days or so, then flowering them out for 9 weeks if possible. Should put me at harvest some time in late May/early June. Thanks for tuning in! If anyone can advise me on how to set up my screen I'd be ecstatic! Happy GROWING :)
Would it be possible, and/or advisable to install a screen in my grow? I have been trying to encourage the lower bud sites up and in line with the main colas, but I don't want to mess anything up. Also my tallest plants might be a foot tall, so I am unsure what to do.
Completed some last minute spreading out, installed the ScrOG net that I had discussed previously, and put a 4th light into my grow tent. It is also incredibly embarrassing, after 2 months of veg, running my ac unit with my carbon filter inside my tent, I realized air was flowing into the tent through the AC and being pushed out the carbon filter into the tent, rather than sucking air through the carbon filter and ejecting it. More than a little embarrassing but I am just incredibly glad that I realized it prior to flipping the tent into flower. Flower updates to come! Hoping to get this flip accomplished prior to June or in the first week but we shall see! Thanks for the positive vibes and any recommendations or advice is appreciated, welcome and thank you ahead of time. Love learning and love this community!
Flipped to a 12 and 12 light schedule and began flower at the beginning of this week! Officially on day 3 of feeding flower nutes. I read, of course after I had fed flower nutes for the first time, that some people wait to introduce flower nutrients and continue feeding bloom nutes? But I am just going to keep up what I have been doing, I think to change back and change again would be too much stress and too much trouble for no real difference likely. I am contemplating adding a second ScrOG net, this one being made out of PVC and baling wire possibly. I want to make the second one with tighter squares for more control of the tops and for smaller manipulations day to day. I don't know if I will be able to make one in time to install it before the stretch is complete, but I plan to attempt to do so tomorrow. Any advice on DIY 4x4 tent ScrOG nets is much appreciated. Really loving the process and feel like I have done well for my first ever grow. I also added in my fourth light this week! Grow on earth, grow with MARS hahahah go Mars Hydro TSW 1000 though really has been a great light and all my additional lights just plug and play haha super easy.
installed the scrog net and let the plants grow into it! This is how far they have rebounded after hardly any time at all, and then about 3 days after scrog install
Starting to show some pretty significant flowers this week! Super happy with bud development so far. Had a lot of issues with humidity in this week, but finally got them sorted after a little defoliation
Check out the Ethos website. Their lead guy has an article on how they recommend germinating their seeds. Lots of other good stuff to read as well. Two of those seeds look like they stretched. Could be the distance of your light was too far from seeds.
@AccyStoner25, The two that stretched kept their helmets on for far too long, hahah. Being that this is my first grow I had no clue what was going on with them but finally knocked the seed remnants off by moistening them up. Sad to mess anything up but I marked that one down as Lesson #1, "How to deal with seed shells that don't come off easily". I read the article on germination and attempted the Ethos method with the Airplane Glue & Vineyard Bx2 seeds, which I failed to get pictures of, but all the Airplane Glue failed :( I think it had to be bad seeds when both the Vineyard ones popped up easy. I really appreciate the advice and the recommendation to check out their other info! Happy growing 😤
