Was gonna put two beans in a pot this time, a Brooklyn Sunrise and a Purple Gorilla, however overnight someone ate my Gorilla sprout ;¬( so now a new one was going to be five days away so I put the Brookly Sunrise in her own pot and marked her with yellow and orange marbles for that sunny type of vibe. Subsequently I have gotten the two beans mixed up, but after examining the seeds I have determine that it was the Gorilla that got eaten. However I have started the Gorilla in it's own pot now and that diary will be up in a few days, so if this plant is a Gorilla instead of a Brooklyn, I'll be able to tell as the grow goes on. But I'm 95% that this diary is the Brooklyn Sunrise.
As usual I'm using my no fuss Shallow Water Culture, that uses no extra additives, no extra Cal/Mag, no added air nice and simple.
Very strong growth, plenty of light gettng to lower buds. Otherwise, all standard stuff. Hope you enjoy the photos. There are three pairs of branches so far at day 14, they are all strong and I could top this now or a day or two ago in a pinch, but because this looks like it will be an open plant I'm gonna top at the 4th node, prolly in a couple of days.
what looked like an open plant last week is currently looking rigid and tight, with tough to move branches, all in a week. I ended up topping on day 15. Unusually for such a tough looking plant, the first two sets of true leave each only had a single leaf. I have been able to tuck the leave so no reason at this stage to remove any big stuff, although I did take a few small leaves off and nip some early undergrowth. The leaves are very puckered like seersucker and early on looked on the verge of some stress but that doesn't seem to be causing any problems. At this stage the roots are only just getting out the basket into the shallow nutrient pool.
Four weeks now and while very vigorous as you'd expect from Dutch Passion, internal spacing if very short and the many branches plus compact status make it very tricky. Compare this with my other current grow the Purple Gorilla. Anyway I've gone for the Twin Towers formation, where the topped two I let grow strait up like two main colas and the lower branched make a ring around the towers. Leave are becoming very thin so this looks like she is beginning to flip.
Hopefully she will open up enough next week that I can figure out a plan of action, I might have to do a massive defoliation sometime next week in order to see WTF is going on inside the jungle.
She has not put on much of a growth spurt and only grown 3 inches since last week. The Purple Gorilla has way overtaken her. I ended up giving her a big defoliation at the beginning of the week but it's still hard to tell what is going to happen in the tangle of branches. So I'll be pretty much just letting her do her thing, She's looking more like a plant that has not been topped. Both plants have finished flipping and so next week will be the first flowering update.
Both plants even though having very different morphologies and also starting 5 days apart, have ended up flipping at exactly the same time and I can't help wondering if they are sharing hormones via the shared reservoir. I have noticed this syncing up of plants sharing reservoirs before.
Welp another week has passed and she has not increased in height at all, still 11 inches. Meanwhile Purple Gorilla is twice her size. In fact she doesn't look like a hydro plant she seems to have that compact squat look you often see in a pot. As you can see from the undershot, she's pretty tight for space. The series of photos are in order but it's hard to tell with all the non growing and the continuous defoliation. At least there are not lots of spindly stuff to have to cut out so I'm happy with that.
She grew a few inches this week so maybe there'll be a mini burst. She is looking nice and chunky and does not require much work, just some defoliation.
Otherwise everything looking tickety- boo.
Peace.
Gradually converting from GH to Green Planet nutes. I'm using 'Massive" for the first time this run, not expecting anything different than usual though, but we shall see. Otherwise this Brooklyn has confirmed itself as the most petite Autoflower I've yet grown, but the buds look very sturdy, I have no idea what this one will do I'm not going to heavy on the defoliation at this stage as there doesn't really seem to be a need. Although today I removed nearly all the old dark green early leaves as they looked ready to die. I must say she is smelling delicious. I woke up thinking someone was making maple syrup pancakes but it was just the Brooklyn flowers.
I've done as much pruning as I can at this stage but she's just a thick matt of buds and leaves. Starting finally to crystallise and she's looking pretty sturdy too. Could be another 3 or 4 weeks here, mind you looking back two weeks ago and how far she has come who knows.
I gotta admit I was concerned a couple of weeks ago. Needlessly as it turned out, I've never grown a plant like this, it's just so chunky, I tried to go and and thin her out and I'm pretty ruthless like that, but there was nothing to thin out, it's just chunk everywhere. Although photos from the top make it look not very good because all you see is a mass of dark leaves and all the flowers just blow out. But you get some idea of some of the flowers here, and you can see from the understory shot how solid everything is.
But the smell, is absolute crazy delightful, full strength diesel when you brush against the leaves, but caramel vanilla wafting in the air. I'm excited, also the pistils looks like they are going to be a very bright orange. They just starting to turn, so maybe two more weeks.
UPDATE: Added some flash shots.
She is beginning to ripen up a lot of bright orange hairs have now appeared, happened rather suddenly. I'm hoping to let this one go as long as she needs, still a lot of clear trichomes, could be ready for the chop next week, but I'll see then. There is no larf on this plant at all, even the stems are are completely hidden from the light are packed with dense buds. I don't know why some plants can do this while other plants get all pale green under the canopy. She's a very pretty plant, she was topped but one of the top branches just went on to become another ordinary branch while the other one grew more like a main cola. So I now have a central cola with a ring of cola all around the perimeter, and in the spaces there's a forest of smaller buds filling the space. This is the most stinky plant yet. The air if full of sweet honeysuckle and vanilla, but if you brush up against the leaves she releases very pronounced diesel fumes. Beware of sparks.
I knew the chop was coming soon, I've been monitoring the trichomes, and while as per usual they are not all cloudy, still I could see amost all the pistils were cooked and she had that 'chop me down' looks by the end of the week, so I obliged, she was just too chunky to risk another week just to see what would happen. Preliminary wet weight is over 800gms, so I'm expecting a final dry harvest of between five and six zips. Chopped on the day before the end of week 12. Will have final harvest numbers and photos next week.
Ok not a bad result, I expected maybe four zips on such a small plant but there was 160g dry not including what I was smoking. It's just for my own personal use so I'm not going to bother to tidy up the buds I'd rather keep the trichomes intact. There was more interesting smells when she was growing but maybe the hot weather evaporated a lot of the terpenes. A nice plant, pleasant enough smoke but doesn't really grab me yet.
