ignore trichomes on leaves.
need a 30-60x magnification to get a good look at the trichomes. If you can distinguish glassy, cloudy and amber, it's good enough. You can google for many varied opinions on when to harvest and how it impacts the buzz.. this is entirely personal preference. The trichomes will get you in the ballpark, so to speak, and you can test out early, middle and late harvests from there to figure out what you prefer.
when you see buds that look like normal bud and at least some amber in any locale you inspect, you have 7-14 days left or so. Possibly fewer if you like an early harvest. Every plant can be a bit different, so these are generalizations and geared toward a ~9 week variety bloom period.
