Slow release soil

I know it isnt ideal but how bad is osmocote soil which has slow release shit for the plant? Ive heard some say it works surprisingly fine, i do plan to eventually get the canna terra range of soil and veg/flower nutrients (probs next grow)

The problem is if a plant is sensitive to it, you are stuck... i mean you can wash roots and replant, but that's not a good plan B. If it is too hot, you will simply burn the shit out of that plant. You could probably mix it in a way that ensures that will never happen and you have to add a little ferts each grow.. possibly tailored to different plants. Which kinda defeats the whole benefit of a slow release thing. I bet you can find people that make it work. If i sound all doom and gloom, it's more about the balancing act necessary to get to that point. So many variables and so much time invovled.
