Cloning Tops?

sacredgeometry
sacredgeometrystarted grow question 4 years ago
I want to clone all 6 of my plants using the tops because I am phenohunting. I am mainlining so I was planning on topping down to the third node after 5 nodes have grown . I tried raising my light to 36 inches and dimming it but my internodal distance is too short. What can I do?

I'd suggest letting them grow to 6 or even 7 nodes. I've had 100% success rate with >=6 nodes. Cut at 3rd and then prune everything below the fan leaves of the top-most node. Some strains take better to that treatment, others don't, but given enough time every single one should take root easily. Take care, keep growing and let us know how it goes! ✊

The question is why would you clone ALL plants when phenohunting? Let the plants grow, and see which one displays the most desirable traits to you, then clone that one? Here's an example why: I have 2 plants, side by side, everything is EXACTLY the same when I started them, plant 1 was a deformed seedling and plant 2 was perfect, faster growth, big leaves etc few weeks later plant 1 is MUCH bigger than plant 2, its root structure is way ahead of plant 2 too and overall a better looking plant and i think the end result will also be far superior. shorter version - the underdog prevailed despite a rocky looking start.

Well I'd let them grow out more then mainline it down. You can start the mainline process with topping it will just be a bit slower. Most clone and pheno hunting are done by letting multiples grow out and making mothers from the pheno of your choice with training done after the fact. But let us know how it turns out. 🤘😤
