Has anyone tried or knows if there are any benefits to adding a UVA/UVB led strip? I currently have a 18w strip on one side of the growbox as a test, the specifications should be as follows: http://www.ledlightinghut.com/files/365nm%20UV%20SMD5050%20LED%20datasheet.pdf

Hi mate, using UVB lighting is the way forward for increasing THC/resin. However, only in small doses. The best source of info on this is Dr. Bruce Bugbee from Apogee Instruments on Youtube. Basically what he says is; A plant will protect itself from UV damage by producing more resin. So the idea is to shock the plant. The best time to do this is in the last few weeks of flower when resin production is at its peak. Using UV light earlier, for instance in veg, will cause the plant to gain resistance to UV early and not produce the same results. One to two hours midway through light cycle to simulate midday sun conditions. There are a few types on the market. LED UV is basically UVA as UVB LED's are pointless and expensive as they emit very low levels and cost about £300. UVA is helpful but does not increase resin production. UVB is the important wavelength. Reptile lights are ok. Good for small spaces. Can raise the temperature a little. Agromax tubes are known to be the better ones of that type. Some companies are offering purpose designed fixtures if you're willing to pay for them. California Lightworks, Migro light amongst others. I hope this help but do your research. a lot of shite out there. Bruce bugbee is the man!! Peace...

@Rusticbuds I'm trying, but unless there is strong evidence I'm not sure I'll notice the difference. @ORGANOMAN there are many papers that talk about how UVB lights increase the thc content in the plant. And also the sun or hps lamps also emits UV, only a very large amount that are capable skin damage or worst (sunlamps for example). Moreover the very harmful ones are UVC that, in fact, are used to sterilize My question, was whether this LED strip would give me appreciable result so not, if anyone has tried to use led strips etc. Thanks!

Plants will like it, although they don't actually NEED it, but it is helpful. Probably best to have it overhead so it shines onto the leaf surfaces and not sideways. Make sure to switch it off if going into your tent, UV-B can cause skin cancer and chromosome/DNA damage in humans through extended exposure. Hope this helps,......... Organoman.
