Did I wait too long to top?

I just topped, main-lined, and defoliated. The stem is about the thickness of a pencil, and the nodes are very tightly packed.
The reason I waited so long to top was because I wanted to clone the cuttings and give them to a friend.
My question is, did I wait too long to top?

You are good. Summer solstice is June 22, so lots of time for growth before flower is triggered outdoors. Im in Ontario and mine will be topped for first time next week. I like to top at 3rd node of true leaves and then a few days later defol, then top again for the mainline a few days later to stress them less. Mainlining provides better structure for outdoor imho. Never late for top of course this extend u veg period Now u have lots of space u can start toppings .

Is this normal growth for a mail-lined plant?I mainlined 8 colas on both plants. Each one has a small stem growing at the beginning of each cola. Is that normal growth for a main-line? I thought at this stage it would be just 8 long colas.
