You can and some strains go dream but mostly it's not recommended. Autos just don't get the recovery time they need heading into flower. On YouTube the channel FromSeedtoStoned covered the topic really well.

Topping or LST after 1st topping Last week I topped this little baby, the plant now is growing ok. I noticed that not only the two top side branches are growing a lot, but that the ones on the node under it too. I would like to make the 4 grow and like that I don't have to top more, is it ok? When to start 12/12 Hi people. My plants are on vegetation day 26 and are 8 inches tall. My tent setup can give them room for 15 more inches for a total of 23 inches height from soil to top. So, when do you think I should start 12/12 to maximize the plants height and yield? Thanks.

Mainline/Manifold: Trimming fan leaves after done with topping.Finishing up the topping portion of mainlining. P2 to be Nebula-Haze style and P3 to be Nugbuckets style. I'll be trimming growth tips other than from the 8 cola sites on each. Still keep un-shaded fan leaves below those levels? A lot online shows all lower fan leaves trimmed
