tapered seed stem

On 03.01. I received 13 seeds, variety unknown, planted about 1 cm deep in the soil (composted with perlite), poured normally (no overwatering, no dry). 8 seeds germinated, the 9th followed bit later, doesn't look healthy. The stem is tapered. Can he still grow or is it lost?

Don't overwater and keep an eye. I had so many crazy survivals, that I would bet more on them making it, than not It's WEED !!! Just pay attention to mentioned points, clear bag or cup not the best, but nobody cancelled black duck tape !!! Just roll it around and you have roots protected. From now, because you are in overwatering zone, just spray them from time to time, to keep moist, don't water for a week ! All the Best !!!

A few things, not all seeds are going to make it; mix is very wet; clear plastic cups are a no-no. Roots need darkness to grow properly and will die if exposed to light, like at the edges of a clear plastic cup. Also, there seems to be very little soil in the cup, roots/seedlings need 4-5 inch deep pots (black plastic are best) to get established properly, by the time your seedlings are 2-3 days old, their roots will already hitting the bottom of those cups, potentially stunting growth. Black plastic pots about 4 inches across and 5 inches deep are ideal for seedlings and their first 3 weeks of growth - plenty of room for roots and enough nutrition in the soil to not require any feeding. Plus, if you look after the pots and wash them between cycles, they last many years! Personally, I would not grow unknown seeds unless it was an experiment, much too high a chance for duds/males/hermies. If spending big on a grow (electricity alone!), spending money on good quality feminized seeds is relatively the cheapest part of any grow! This seedling might make it, but after a long time of growing cannabis, seeds like these get culled by me without hesitation, as I don't have the time, patience or effort required to grow "maybes". Hope this helps, Organoman.

That sprout looks like its hurting and the soil looks a bit too wet. Give it time and some light and maybe it will pull though. I can't say for sure if it will or not. If your seeds are of unknown origins, like bag seed, be prepared for a range of problems like hermi's and males when they start to sex. Best of luck
