My girl is drooping (18 gal tote)

What does "compact" mean??? How did you "decompact"??? In my pots the roots grow all the way to the surface and are very dense which can make it feel hard. Trying to scrape, till or otherwise loosen the soil will damage a lot of roots. Water still easily enters the soil though. When watering the very first water may sit on the surface for a few seconds but quickly soaks into the soil indicating that it is not compact and is still able to accept water. I really like fabric pots when growing in soil. They make it very difficult to over water and allow more oxygen to reach the roots. You can also see and feel when the pot is moist on the sides and bottom to tell if your watering is reaching all of the soil. I don't know how you can tell that the soil in the bottom of your tote is dry without digging a hole and damaging the plant. If you are sticking your finger in a drain hole the soil being dry simply could mean you are not thoroughly watering the soil. Your watering may be only reaching the top part of soil while the bottom of your tote goes unused by the plant because it is dry.
