In general, you should follow a schedule of water/feed/water/feed... some do water/water/feed/water/water/feed... The size of the pot you're growing in doesn't have any bearing on this schedule - you give your plant what's next up (water? feed?) when it is dry... some people stick their finger into the soil and if they don't encounter moisture within 2", that's their signal it's time for a drink of something... I lift my pots up - I know what they feel like when they're dry and when there's sufficient water in them (you can get a handle on it, too, just by continually picking up your pots so you know what they feel like when). I also know a lot of people follow a set schedule (i.e., every three days, give the plant something) but I don't think this is good for many reasons - the primary reason is that the plants will take up moisture at different rates depending on conditions, their age, etc... I believe it's better to "read" your plant and know the signs of when they need something.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
