I didn't worry about it in the beginnining, and just used tap water as is. Then in late veg I started noticing some small brown spots. I knew I had enough nutrients and instead decided to check the ph of my water. Tested in the high 7's. So I PH'd my water for the next few waterings and the spot stopped appearing. Now my only concern is the PH down solution possibly killing microbial life in the soil

I do yes. 6.0-6.5 is what I use. 🙏

Worried about it like my life depended on it for the first 15 years of my growing career, but for the last 20+ years have used water as it comes out of the tap and can say that I have not notice any (real) differences. As long as your water is fit for human consumption and not extreme in its pH, the plants will not notice. However, I only ever grow in soil and organically, but if I were doing hydro, I guess I would pay more attention to pH. They hardly get perfect anything in nature and have survived for eons unassisted, so..........

You are doomed for failure otherwise ... Plus i not only ph to 6.3 , but dechlorinate water before adding anything or adjusting ph at the end ...
