The fast-growing cannabis plant requires a significant amount of nitrogen during the vegetative phase. It is quite difficult to overdose on nitrogen when using modern, commercial fertilizers that are the result of years of experience. You know you are dealing with nitrogen poisoning if:
* Leaves turn deep dark green.
* Leaf stems turn purple.
* The tips of the leaves first turn yellow and then burn.
* The leaves develop a claw-like shape.
In some species, the tips will first bend horizontally, at an angle of 90°, then take on a claw-like shape. Left untreated, this will only get worse; the leaves yellow and then fall off the plant.
* Leaves develop a cupped appearance.
* Heat and pH issues will compound the problem.
Plants are less able to cope with stress if they are dealing with poisoning.
