Defoliation

As these plants are entering flower stage should I defoliate more heavily? I am afraid to remove too many fan leaves as I don’t want to impact growth. I did some very light defoliation and it was well tolerated. Any advise?

Just remember........ Maximum amount of leaves = maximum amount of energy production = maximum growth! Defoliation is not an essential step in cannabis cultivation. There is no need to do it "just because " or "everyone else does it". I personally do not believe in it and only ever remove yellow/dying leaves. Besides, if your plant would not need those leaves, it would not grow them in the first place!

Only defoliate where leaves cause problems. When they are stacked on eachother and moist can not escape from the bottom of the leaves. Or when leaves are blocking light for large parts of the plant.

I'm a fan of defoliation myself... Having experienced bud rot destroying a grow, I want as much air flow through my plants as possible ... and having had grow after grow produce decent sized buds on top but small buds underneath with no stacking except for the main cola, I want to get as much light into my plants as possible. You can see what I've done in my #2 Bruce Banner diary and how all of the side buds are stacking up beautifully... watch the video here... growdiaries.com/diaries/154058-grow-journal-by-growinggrannie - I made the mistake with my #1 Bruce Banner of NOT defoliating because she was such a gorgeous looking plant.. full, thick, and EVERYTHING was frosty.. when I finally realized I was not going to get the bud development and was most definitely risking bud rot, I had to do some but by that time, there were precious few leaves that did not have a thick coating of sticky trichs on them and defoliating her even a little was worse than any wet trim session I'd ever had! But it's not for everyone and not for every grow. My Pinky is probably never going to need defoliation (growdiaries.com/diaries/157106-grow-journal-by-growinggrannie - and again, watch the video) - and if she does need it, it will probably be only a very little. A good article to refer to is this one - it will give you the when, the why and the how ... https://www.growweedeasy.com/nebulas-super-simple-3-step-defoliation-tutorial All that being said, if this was my grow, I would definitely be defoliating some more... the interior of the plant is very dark and I would worry about both bud development and air flow... But that's NOT to say you won't have a good harvest if you leave her be... Good luck!

If your not comfortable defoliating then you don’t have to. But it’s a good practice to learn and master. Look how to lollipop a cannabis plant. Start there, then if your feeling better and want more defoliation, you can take large fan leaves off or near the upper part of the plant that’s castings a lot of shade on lower nodes.

In this matter, you need to trust your instincts. if you feel that it will be better for the plant, then go ahead!

I definitely recommend using Maximum Defoliation. this is my favorite method and it clearly gives the result in a yield increase of 30 percent. I usually do 2 defoliations. one deep defoliation before switching the light regime to 12-12 and a second lighter defoliation at 2-3 weeks of flowering.

I would do some defoliation slowly slowly so light reach lower buds but dont remove lot of leave at same time. I like to start make slowly defolition at your plant stage. I like to give the plant air

The don't look like they need it to me. You only want to defoliate if you have leaves touching and retaining moisture or to help with airflow. I would keep all the leaves on and pluck out some of the lower bud growth. All the lower leaves will send the energy up to the higher buds. This can reduce your overall yield, But will increase the amount of good buds compared to light fluffy larf. Happy Growing.
