I put my seeds in a glass of water about eight hours ago. They were floating at the start and now sank to the bottom. Did they drown are they still good?

I always start my seeds in a glass of water which I cover completely so it's all dark inside and put the glass somewhere warm. I check on them in about 24 hours and, if they're still floating, tap on them to see if they will sink. If they do, it means the seed casing has cracked and it can be put right into the substrate you're going to be growing in. Planting it either pointy-end down or on it's side is best for germination and planting it shallow is better than planting it deep... I don't bother with the paper towel step that many growers use because a) I find it a rather useless and unnecessary step and b) there's a higher risk that it will dry out or you will damage the tap root when transferring it from the paper towel to the substrate... but you do what you feel is right for you! Good luck and enjoy the rest of the journey!

it won't drown that fast... if you listen to some not long ago if they don't sink they are no good.. and that's absulotely horseshit. and those ppl, despite their confidence were wrong. lol. they pobably have soaked up as much as they can in 8 hours.. fwiw. do the direct to substrate or paper towel method.. remembe.. fiddling less will result in greater success... it does the work.. stay out of the way and merely povide moisture and preferably darkness too, but even that isn't requied intiailly... if roots receive light they will evnetually diffentiate into stems... it doesn't happen over night.

I soak mine for 24-36 hrs in water till seed pops open a little then plant. Just about all my seeds sunk, and I'm 5 for 5 so far. I'm a newbie so I don't/didn't know if sinking was a bad thing. 100% success rate so far so ...

Take them out and put them in a damp paper towel and let them go from there, they should recover if not try, try try again..keep the temp around 23c and they should pop in a day or two
