Drying seems too fast after chop (Growing and Drying in a Shed). 5 days too quick and how to slow it down?

Thanks! My last 2 grows seem to dry too quickly. I dry in a shed but rh and temps are decent- 70-75F & 50-60rh. Even tried letting 1 plant go 6 days instead of 5 before trimming and the jar never climbed over 54% after. Is this normal- should I & how could I slow the dry down?

The ideal environment for drying is to try to maintain 60F and 60% humidity with a fan blowing air GENTLY around the buds, not directly at them. But that still is not going to guarantee a long drying period... airy buds, for example, will dry much faster than buds that are hard, dense rocks... When you jar them up, you can put in some Boveda 62 which will ensure the moisture content of the jar... you could try Grove Bags (they're great but too expensive for me)... I've never had a clue what humidity is inside my jars (although I DO use the Boveda when I can)... if my buds are too dry, I will put them in a ziplock bag with a slice of bread (like you would soften rock hard brown sugar)... some people use a leaf or two of lettuce... if they're too wet, I put them on a plate somewhere and let them dry out a bit more. You're worried about the length of your drying - there's no "magic" number of days, believe me! I judge when the buds are ready to be jarred by gently squeezing them - they should be slightly spongy but not overly so... in time, you'll get to know the right feel.... that might take 4 days, it might take 7, it might take 10.... The drying time for my first grow was only 3 days... but the product was stupendous.... my most recent harvest dried in 6 days... the drying time does not affect the taste, only the smokeability... dry buds will be harsher and used up more quickly, wetter buds won't light as well nor keep going without re-lighting... Good luck... I'd just suggest you not try to achieve absolute perfection - roll a joint and relax! :-D

Hello Skynet, you can use a dry tent with only the outlet fan on. I always dry for 5-7 days and it usually gives me 65-70% In the old days you had to get the buds out of the jar every day and let the moist esape till it reached 62% These days you can close the jar with 65-70% and use a overkill boveda 62% humidity regulator bag. When I dry 100 grams I use a boveda for 500 grams (67 grams boveda bag). Within a day the humidity inside the jar is 62% and will stay 62%

Hello! Maybe some wind is passing through the shed? If you want to slow the driying, you could try to keep more fan leaves for longer, pack the plants closer together (watch for mould tho). When do you decide to put the buds in jar? I generally do it as soon as they feel dry to the touch, and then ''burp'' the excess moisture out during the curing. If they seem getting too wet (clumping together, amonia smell) you could still put them out and dry them a little longer. It's way easier to get rid of moisture than ading it back in! 54% seems ok to me tho. Hope i helped you and good luck!
