Runoff PPM High in late flowering

Decided to measure my runoff PPM out of the blue.. my input is ~600 PPM and my runoff is ~1400 PPM. I haven't exactly achieved 20% in my runoffs when watering. For my next watering, should I increase the volume until I register a lowered runoff? This is week 13.

Hey there! Checking your runoff PPM is a smart move to monitor what's going on with your plant's nutrient uptake. It's normal for the runoff PPM to be higher than the input, but a significant increase like that could indicate a buildup of salts in your growing medium. Since your input is around 600 PPM and your runoff is at 1400 PPM, it suggests that your plant might not be fully utilizing all the nutrients you're giving it, leading to accumulation in the medium. Increasing the volume of water you're giving until you see a decrease in runoff PPM can help flush out some of those excess salts. Aim to achieve at least 20% runoff to ensure thorough flushing. However, considering you're in week 13 of your auto Northern Lights, you need to be cautious about overwatering or causing stress to your plant. Gradually increase the volume of water over a couple of watering sessions to avoid shocking your plant. Additionally, if you haven't already, it might be a good idea to check the pH of your runoff as well. Fluctuations in pH can affect nutrient uptake, so ensuring it's within the proper range can help your plant better absorb nutrients. Overall, a little adjustment in your watering routine should help rebalance things and ensure your plant gets what it needs without any excess buildup. Happy growing!

600PPM on a 500 scale is 1.2EC Best to use EC as 1EC=1EC no matter the device. ppm is tricky. 1EC=500ppm or 640ppm or 700ppm depending on the device used. most things for North America use 500 scale, I think UK uses 640 sometimes 700. eg. 1400PPM on 500 is 2.8EC and on 700 is 2EC bit of a difference. Some plants can handel a bit more feed close to 1.4-1.6EC but I think 1.2 is a good number to aim for. If you notice they are showing signs of being hungry after giving them more runoff just increase the feed by 50-100PPM till it subsides. If the plant looks healthy and is not showing any signs of issues slowly give it a bit more runoff but I would not over do it all at once as it might be a shock to it. Don't want big changes in flower. They also will feed less end of their life and you will be able to tapper that EC down to 0.5-0.7 end of life for the last week or even just lightly watering with no runoff. Good Luck!

Defo go for more runoff, you will have a build up in your grow medium. Go for about 40% runoff next watering.

If you have not been doing about 20% run off you have indeed built up nutrients in your media. There is really no “too much nutrient solution” that can be flushed through your media. You could use 1 gallon to flush it or 5 gallons. As long as you mix your solution up to the recommended EC and pH and flush your media out over about 30 min you will have successfully flushed out most of the build up of salts (nutrients) in the media and replaced them with a known amount. Say you mix 2 gallons at 1.2ec. Put all that though a 2 gallon pot, you’re probably going to have about 1.5 gallons come out the bottom. But what is left in the pot that is absorbed by the media should be your 1.2EC mix because everything else got flushed out. Not if you are having major issues with nutrient burn it’s recommended to just flush with pure pH stable water. But in your case I think you are ok to use the nutrient mix but apply much more to flush out your build up. Hope this helps.
