Falling pH caused by bacteria

Noviceme
Novicemestarted grow question 5 years ago
I have falling pH issues I think caused by bacteria producing organic acids. I've used H202 3% 1ml/L in hydroponics. Does anyone know if this will destroy beneficial root microorganisms or have a diff solution to the problem?

H2O2 doesn't discriminate and enough will kill the bacteria and microbes. I believe I have the same issue (doing some testing now).. I think the liquid karma drops my PH (kelp and other organics). Voodoo juice, hydroguard, and great white are all root inoculants that could help, but I don't think they will help stabilize your reservoir... maybe use less organics in your feed and make sure you sterilize your reservoir and equipment between changes. good luck!

If you have a bacteria problem that causes your pH to increase. If pH is dropping then it is a nutrient related issue. Something in your nutrients is not playing well in the system. The solution to this is maxigro and maxibloom. They are the most stable nutrients I have found. They have buffers that hold pH steady all week after the initial adjustment. They are also cheap and grow pretty nice plants. The h2o2 does kill all of your beneficial, but it breaks down in about 3 or 4 days so your beneficial will build back up soon. No worries on that. Good luck!

You can reintroduce organics easily with Recharge, Fish Sh!T, et al , so go ahead and use the H2O2. I suggest getting a quart of Food Grade @30% H2O2 and mix that down to 1-2% (i.e. six times the amount of water to H2O2) using that should rid you of the issue for the time being perhaps permanently. The problem with the pharm H2O2 (3%) is the stabilizing solution is SLIGHTLY toxic to plants at those levels (i mean slight). You can use it in a pinch but not the best. You are on the right track.

I may suggest a better product to help control the problem , you can use hydroguard . Its designed to kill the bad bacterias while allowing the good ones to live . This will also help rectify your PH imbalances due to the bacterias . I would give you more information but its hard based on the question asked theres alot missing here like rez size and what your feeding them but for the most part hydroguard will fix the problems that your having . I hope this helps !

It may be due to using too much nutrients. Try using less nutrients over time and see if that improves the ph. Also try watering with just tap water as most tap waters have a ph of 7-9.

@germano , restart beneficial in context of redoing your nutrient bath? You can't just re add it into a contaminated solution or H202'd solution. Would be pointless.

there is no such thing as "restart with your beneficial bacteria."

H202 will kill any of your beneficial microbes as well. H202 will only solve a problem acutely. I would strongly encourage redoing your nutrient bath, clean out your reservoir very thoroughly and restart with your beneficial bacteria.
