Far Red=Bigger Buds?

sanibelisl
sanibelislstarted grow question 5 months ago
Would I notice a change in flower production if a added a Far Red light bar to my current light setup. Currently lights have 96 red led chips, producing a color temperature of about 2650 cct(k) good and warm. Lots of flowers! Would they get any fatter?

This light will be perfect for flowering, you do not need to change anything and it will not increase yield when you do so. Happy Growing buddy! 💚

Genetics is 95% of that, assuming competency growing otherwise. Red wavelengths will reduce branching, very slightly. It's not going to make your yield bigger. That is mostly about DLI. if giving 35-40 DLI in ambient co2 conditions, you'll reach 50g/sq ft when doing everything right. can some genetics do better, maybe, but it's a solid goal for most decent plants. I used to worry about my 'newer' 3400K lights. I was using DIY 2900K lights before that. I have seen no difference under other of them in 3 years of comparison so far. I know i've grown the same strain under each and they come out as expected. NEver tried compaingn clones, but if it's not easily noticeable it's not something to fret about. I had buyer's remorse initially, but since then all those worries were totally unwarranted. People have strong opinons on this stuff, but without any data to back it up i'd be skeptical.

The only way with the current set up you have I see to gain more yeild and have fatter nugs in the same outcome is to train your plants so there's an even canopy worst case top yours once and call it a day your saide nigs will become main colas themselves and that alone will give u atleast 7 fat nugs vs your 1 main if your good at training then all your nugs are like main colas if not 75% of them are with the remaining still hotdog sized chunckers ..... you seem to have enough red light in your set up .. adding to much red might not give u the yeild your looking to achevie but more of a maxing out your current height to fast and not allowing your side nugs to branch out far enough to get any energy consumption to make flower power

your light is too high buddy :) that's why your internode spacing is huge :) far red has been proven to ripen buds better or faster but is it worth investing money into when most led lights have far red in their spectrum already I'm not sure but each to their own best of luck :)

There is Deep Red "DR", Fair Red "FR" and infrared "IR" viable light is about 380-700nm think of rainbow light graph. DR is aorund 660-700nm FR is aorund 700-800mn IR is aorund 800-1000nm DR is great for photosynthesis and FR is great for stretching the plant out. IR is also good but is mostly heat related. I have grown plants on a 6500K spectrum with minimal reds in it and they turned out really good I have also grown them on a 2500k spectrum with more DR and FR and also turned out ok. however I do prefer a more blue light to keep the plants compact. I'm more a fan of DR then I am FR in lights. Some over do the FR and the plants will stretch to much. I also read something a while back some manufacturers are walking back their FR led in some models as they found the stretching to much.. I think your setup is ok for what it is and does not need any more RED lighting. I would look into upgrading it later to some bar lights if you are serious about growing. Will have better PPF coverage and less cold/hot spots. Good Luck!

There are dif method of IR to make bigger buds 730nm causes them to fall asleep in 15m instead of 2hrs Extra IR in the lower ranges around 600-680 add extra budding sites and have a deeper reach into your canopy. Yes, it'll be a big boost when used right
