Trimming

Hello growers, is it okay to trim fan leaves and dead leaves while wet and after drying trim any left sugar leaves. I would do a wet trim because it dries faster but I heard that wet trimming affects smoking smoothness, is it true tho? Thanks.

wet and dry trimming will not affect smoking smoothness. Rate of drying can. If in a very dry environment, it might be better to dry trim. nothing is 'leached' from the buds because the leaves exist.. that's not how a plant work at all - the flowers are built they way they are instructed to be built. Same reason "flushing" does not impact mineral composition of the flower. It's not some sort of soup inside that leaks out, BWAHAHA. That's bro science nonsense. The moment the plant dies, there is only 1 way it goes and the only thing we can do is slow it down... entropy.. deterioration of the terps and thc et al. Just as a baseball cannot gain speed after it leaves a pitcher's hand... no more energy supplied... no more 'work' done. If you need to slow the drying process, dry trimming is a viable option to help slow it down. Hanging entire plants will help too. i'd keep this process as simple as you can.. anything complicated is just a sign of neuroticism. I wet trim and cut down to similarly sized buds. It takes 9 days to dry and i'm happy with that. Sometimes they need a 10th day, too. It's simply and i don't have to do shit 3x a day or this or that. Buds will taste great at varying times, but many are fine from the moment they are at equilibrium with storing environemnt - i.e. not losing weight anymore. If you have to burp 3x a day it was probably too wet to be in a sealed container to start. Just make sure it takes at least 5-7 days to dry and preferably 10-14 if you can control the environment well enough. A humidifier is low wattage, so it doesn't cost much for that, but getting the right temperatures can be expensive. This is one of many reasons i grow in the winter months. I've got a room that stays 66-68F, give or take. Just plop a humidifier in there and it is golden.

You can take the big leaves off, especially the dead ones. I always found wet trim ends up cutting too much flower out. My overall method is hang whole plant and or branches until leaves go crispy. Seperate off the wood and take bigger leaves off. Then bag your buds up and sweat for a day. That pulls the moisture from middle of bud and evens it back out. Then after it sweats for the day take back out of bag and spread onto a screen. Keep your temps between 15 -25 at 60-70 humidity. Let dry on screen for a few days or until leaves are crispy again. You can fine trim at this point. Then bottle the buds in air tight brown or blue glass bottles or mason jars. If you only have clear glass bottles thats fine but leave in dark. Burp often in the beginning. Once every day or two for 30 min or so. Then after a week burp bottles once or twice a week for 10 min or so then do it every couple weeks. You will have beautiful pot in a month and a half to 3 months. You can also freeze at any point to halt the process if your busy or want the whol3 crop done at once. I should also mention while burping your bottles touch and smell your buds. You will notice the difference. Once it hits your desired seasoning smoke smoke smoke. I can go into more detail on any of those points shoot me a message or check out some of the great articles on this site. Good luck you did all the hard work now finish it off with a bang. This is one of the most important steps in having top shelf stash. Good luck happy growing and smoking

If you dry all the plants at once and preferably in the dark, the chemical processes continue, which makes the harvest stronger. Some of the goodies are lost if pruning is done immediately; it is advisable to dry the plant along with the buds, then the plant will transfer all the remaining strength to the cones during drying for about a week to protect them from drying out. will come out, the effect will be stronger as a result

I wet trim everything soon as I harvest and put all the scrap straight in the freezer to make water hash. I put the buds on meshbdrying racks. I find this works way better than waiting tibtrim afterwards especially if you don't have a whole extra room to get to the perfect temp and rh. Your gonna want your buds to dry faster than not if you can not keep temp of room down at 60 degrees even at 65 degrees buds need to be dried faster or they will smell of musk

Hi! Yes it's okay to do both. People who live in more dry areas tend to dry trim, as the leaves will wrap around the buds and increase the drying time. That can help to counteract the weather conditions. People who live in more humid areas tend to wet trim, so the leaves don't complicate the drying process. If you're lucky to live in an area where these conditions don't apply, you can choose either. Personally I have not noticed any difference in smoke between wet trimmed and dry trimmed. If you dry and cure properly, your smoke will be more than satisfactory 😉

Your dry and cure is what effects the smoothness of the smoke. Don't want it to dry to fast and want to give it min 3 week cure. So I leave everything on my plants to extend the dry time. and I aim to cure for 3 months but its a long time so min 3weeks lots of burping first week and less so the following days.

Personally I try and leave as much on as I can while drying, iv done wet trims in the past and the weed dries to quickly, the slower the dry the better I find so I leave lots on maybe take the odd big fan leaf if its going to be in the way.
