The Pr-to-Pfr conversion, triggered by red light exposure, plays a crucial role in floral development, this conversion, where the inactive form of phytochrome (Pr) becomes the active form (Pfr), initiates a cascade of events that ultimately leads to flowering or inhibits it.
High levels of Pfr, maintained during the day, suppress flowering. Also known to initiate shade avoidance, high levels of far red outside of sunset will cause plant to think it's under the canopy of a tree or other plant and stretch to get out the deep reds.
