LED lights

Help for a good LED light for a 6ft x 4ft x 8ft high growroom (autoflowers only). Done plenty of research on lights but too much info and brands etc. Budget is 200-250gbp...may push 300. Is it better to have 2 smaller square lights or a single rectangle bar? 6-8 plants.

6x4 = 24 sq ft / 10.764 ft^2/m^2 = 2.23m^2 Read wiki on Daily Light Integral to understand the metrics used... PPFD is per meter-squared and not a single point measurement. You can reference pre-made DLI tables with PPFD and hours of operation to find DLI. 35-40DLI is a good max output target for current LED grow lights and their typical hanging distances. Autos / Vege with 18 hour operation 2.23 * 550 PPFD = 1226.5 umol/s PAR 2.23 * 600 PPFD = 1338 umol/s PAR 1200 - 1350 umol/s PAR output from your lights is well-sized. That's 35-39 DLI, rounded. 18 hours is not a hard number. You could do 16/8, but you'd need proportionally more light over 16h compared to 18h. Same DLI = same yield, all other factors remaining the same. It is still important to have a dark cycle. So, more is not always better. The only reason to go beyond 18h is if you have a light not powerful enough for the area of coverage. That might outweigh the costs of whatever neglecting the dark cycle may bring. Something to avoid, not plan for. Photo period 12 hour operation needs in flower phase... can just apply 3/2 conversion from 18h or do the math above a second time with roughly 800-900PPFD. 1800 - 2000 umol/s PAR output for 2.23m^2 is roughly 35-39 DLI provided. Common sense hanging distances that don't sacrifice overall average while reducing difference from central readings to edges/corners as best you can. Quantum boards - 18" give or takes. Bar-framed lights can get a bit closer on average because they have a larger frame to help distribute light better. An overpowered light for the area may need more distance than normal or fewer watts (dimmer knob), dealer's choice. No matter what, all suggestions need fine-tuning. You'll observe distance between new growth nodes and adjust light intensity based on that. What these suggestions do is get you into a very small ballpark around what's 'best' for your local variables. Climate and ambient co2 will impact exactly how much light you can give. It is not a static number. It is relative.

6-8 autos will fill about 50-60% of the room if they grow big = Get more plants 😊 300 GBP worth of LED is way underpowered for the room size = Get two 600w HPS lights 😎

Hi Deano420, I've been growing with Spider farmer G and Mars Hydro TS series for many years. They are budget friendly full spectrum LED lights. TS series have slightly more heat, but more affordable. Spider Farmer G5000, for example, covers an area of 120 x 120 cm and offers 480 watt power. Bar LED lights like this one distributes the light more evenly and also provides more air flow, so cooler and more effective. Happy grows!

Iv got 6 premium LEDs.I had 4 up at the same time so have some idea of what works side by side.Youre pushing it with that budget though. You really need a pound per watt and the majority of the space needs filling up with diodes.Ebay is a great place to go.Theres some huge bargains to be had now on LEDs.Theres endless examples of decent lights like bar lights,6-8 rows of lights on one fighting,600w.Cobs are great due to the lenses.Quality lights with lenses are great.Youll be much better off with 2 lights covering that area.On that budget the light won't be any longer that 3 ft max soi that leaves 3ft.My diary shows my room and the cieling is almost covered as most led,s direct the light straight down which is why good lenses help.Yu will get 4 plants under a 600w if they arent big plants,no more than a few weeks veg. That space needs 2x600w though.I think I sawthe newer Omega gold 600w on ebay for £200.I guess youre here in the UK.

i gave output... i figured common sense is enough to recognize frame sizes and such to make sure it fits the room, too. 1 central light with 2000 umol/s might not be a good option for a rectangular 6x4, for example. but, the total power output should fall in the ranges suggested.

I think any of the popular brands work that offer full spectrum LEDs. When I bought mine, viparspectra offered the best price/W ratio.

I'd use the bigger Mars hydro one for that space instead of 2 smaller ones.

just do some research, it really isnt that much to do. brand image, diode sourcing, diode efficiency rating, PAR map, and independent corroboration of each point like you show some mars hydro, which just had a few billion leaked data records including router passwords from their IoT devices, which all their devices are considered nowadays people like the name spyder farmer but dont know theyre currently getting sued into oblivion ive had terrible experience with anything vivosun past one grow worth of hours
