Day 15 - The start of week 3 and the girls are really taking off, from 1-2 Inches of vertical growth daily. Consuming a good amount of water, almost leaving the bucket empty. lol. Lightly defoliating to keep the bud sites exposed to light, as they get bushy very fast and recovery is only taking a day for them to bounce back. Pretty happy with how things are going right now. Slightly increased the EC by .2 but not enough to burn them.. which is the goal. Grateful for my trolmaster unit as it has made keeping tracking of my parameters much easier and effortless. Day 16- Topping up the res with RO water every two days. Otherwise I'm sure it would be empty! Pistils are showing and the bud sites are very visible. Seeing one pheno with slightly more sativa dominant traits. Luckily I took clones so I can run the best pheno next time around, although all these plants are special. Still going through the flower stretch. Excited for what is to come. Stay tuned for the results. Day 18 - As you can see, the difference is night and day over a period of 2 days they have had an explosion of growth. They were heavily defoliated on day 17 and bounced back within a day. Been flushing now 7 days. One good 5l flush and after that was dried with help of little fan continued 2l at time. I was gonna keep these couple days longer but I need this tent for next plants today so this went down. Well trichs are cloudy and some amber ones. so 10th week only got to half way but next harvest update coming up.😏👽😵😌

Not long now not long.... getting more sticky and stinky by the day

It has been another amazing week of the plants growing. I have been watching as the Fruity Freak leaves become progressively more fern-like, and ornamental as a result! Based on my Banizzle grows, I knew I needed to understand plant nutrients in a more meaningful way if I wanted these plants to thrive. So, I decided to get a soil test (see Ref. 1 below on how to perform a test) to understand what nutrients my plants needed. The report I received advised that I needed to add 200 lbs/acre of nitrogen, 150 lbs/acre of phosphorus, and 190 lbs/acre of potassium (see picture labeled Pic.1 (FYI you can't see these images unless you login to growdiaries)). I then researched what to do with my results (Ref. 2 helped), and I figured out that my nutrient needs of 200-150-190 fall close to a 2-1-2 ratio. I then looked at different types of organic fertilizers (see Ref. 3 and Ref. 4) and considered that I already had a 3-10-5 fertilizer (Vermibloom) on hand. I discovered Dr Earth’s Alfalfa Meal is 2-1-2 and includes beneficial bacteria and mycorrhizae (to promote healthy plant growth and disease resistance). However, I knew I would be low on nitrogen if I only used those two fertilizers. Therefore, I decided to buy some blood meal (12-0-0). I also liked that blood meal is more fast acting while the other two are more moderate. I hunted around for a solid fertilizer calculator and found an amazing tool from the University of Georgia Extension (Ref. 5). I entered all three fertilizers into the calculator, and it kicked out the exact amount of each fertilizer I needed to apply to 1 square foot (see Pic. 2). As I am using 10-gallon fabric pots (that can hold 1.5 cubic feet, but I put stone on the bottom and there’s space left at the top) I decided to use the one square foot application rate as I can always add more later, but I can’t take it away. Not only did I want to understand the nutrients I needed, but I also wanted to understand the structure of the soil (as it was not included in my test results). North Dakota State University has a nice page that discusses this (Ref. 6), and I performed a soil ribbon test (see Video 1) based on this information. I determined my soil to be medium textured (which is great), but I have seen occasional water pooling on the surface, suggesting that it may be more of a medium-fine. This means adding peat moss, coco coir, or other amendments might improve drainage (and plant hydration) and allow for roots to grow more easily. In the long run, I plan to use compost to enhance the soil structure and nutrients. I filled the bottom of my 10-gallon fabric pots with a ½” of pea stone to allow for drainage (Pic. 3). I then partially filled two 5-gallon buckets with topsoil from near where I will plant (but not in an area the roots will reach). I used a digital scale to measure the amount of fertilizers recommended by the calculator (Pic. 4, 5, and 6) and added it to one of the 5-gallon buckets (see Pic. 7). I mixed the fertilizers into the soil as evenly as possible (Pic. 8 and 9). I then poured a two-inch layer of non-fertilized soil, then peat moss, and then fertilized soil (in a roughly 2:1:1 ratio) and blended them together. I repeated this until the pot was full (getting additional soil as needed), and then I repeated the process for the other three pots. I set the filled fabric pots in my garage (Pic. 10) for two days to allow any upset bugs to flee into my garage instead of my house. I then moved the pots (wrapping them in a contractor garbage bag to prevent making a mess) into the room with the grow light. I placed a board on top of the fabric pots to insulate the plants (in their smaller pots) from the cold soil (Pic. 11). Once the soil in the fabric pots reaches room temperature, I will transplant. (Ref. 1) This video shows the method I used to take a soil sample. I didn’t have a field to test, so I took four samples from the area where I will eventually plant outdoors and blended them together. oh boy these girls just love to stretch a lot! They have doubled their height in just one week. It's the sativa genes in this baby! I love this one outside where you can let her go wild!

This week the new growth of the plants transitioned from looking relatively healthy to droopy and yellowed. I wasn't sure what the issue was at first and thought it might be light stress. After more research, I determined that I had what looked very much like a zinc deficiency, which is almost always a symptom of over-watering, which is the most common mistake for new growers, i.e. "Me". I had assumed that adding a good amount of perlite to my soil and using smart pots would prevent me from running in to any drainage issues but I guess not. I was up to 1.5 liters per plant when I realized that it was too much. I also realized I was misreading my syringe which I use to mix nutrients, and that i had been giving only 1/10 of the liquid nutrients that I thought. I'm super embarrassed about the mistake but I'm going for full transparency here, so there it is. Course correction takes places after day 31.

1st March Mon - So it’s been 3 weeks since I planted her and coming into the 2nd week of veg. I’m happy to say she’s doing well we have now got 2 more leaves so she’s growing well. 2nd March Tue - Updated grow diaries today put out a question on her leaves so will update what I find out. Think I will start giving nutes in a few days but not too sure how to go about that? Will record what I find out, any comments appreciated!!! 3rd March Wed - Nothing new to update today just letting soul dry a little before I add nutes tomorrow. 4th March Thur - First day on nutrients!! Got some fresh ph balanced water at 6.5. Added 4 drops each of Dutch pro soil A+B and 3-4 drops of cal mag. This was added to 2 pints of water gave enough to the plant for it to be damp. Very excited to be moving on with the grow!! 5th March Fri (day 14 since sprout) Very excited to see the plant is responding well to nutrients the leaves are getting much bigger looking forward to see what she has to offer in the 3rd weed of veg. ....disaster struck when I was lowering the light it completely broke off and squashed the plant for no longer than 2 seconds. Only break I can see is on one of the lower leaves but hopefully it’ll bounce back! 6th March Sat - Very very disheartened today! :( but I can only try and see what happens! So I had to take a few hours away after the incident happened because I was ready to go hulksmash on the whole grow tent 😂 but with some advice from a lot of growers on here I’ve got a little motivation to continue! So I’ve tied the plant up with a stick and some thread I’ve very loosely tied it to the stalk so she straightens out. Gave her a little more water with some nutes so hopefully aid her. Will keep everything updated on how she grows with the incident in mind. Any advice at all would be very much appreciated! 7th March Sun - So we’re at the end of “week 2” after the incident I think my girls doing well. I’ve put soil upto her bottom leaves to give her more support as advised!! Gave her some water with nutes hope she picks back up this week. Excited to see how she transforms and grows!! going into week 4 i have no complaints, I will end up going 2-4 more weeks of VEG continue with me on my journey of the corona grow! we shall get these ladies to be completely healthy and when there done j want them to be about 6 to 7 feet tall at least 2-4 ounces per plant is my goal

So, I have fought PH and phosphorus deficiencies. Starting to come back around. She is budding and getting happier every day. Lowered my water ph to 5.8 and it has been doing the trick. Upped the bloom mutes lowered the veg mutes. Only giving grow because of such little dirt. Feeding every other day now and watching for it to get too hot. Flushing weekly for salt build up. Hopefully next week we see some better results. She is perking up every day.

I am so proud of her, with the high humidity and extra rainfall she pushed through. I noticed her swell continued in the last week so it’s safe to say she is in good shape.

Starting week 5 now. Still just watering with rain water. Girls still doing exceptionally well. Still no deficiencies and 2 of outer plants now trying to out grow center plant. Trichromes starting to form. Good leaf colors and room really starting to fill up with bud sites.
