Week 11 Veg - Mentha de Croco Mutants Hello, Grow Diaries fam! 🌱✨ This week’s update is all about setting up for the big transition—we’re finally flipping these beauties into flower! But before we do, I took some important steps to ensure a smooth transition. Defoliation & Why It Matters Before Flower Before the flip, I gave them a thorough defoliation, clearing out lower and overcrowded leaves. Why? Because: More Light Penetration – Helps lower bud sites develop properly. Better Airflow – Reduces humidity buildup and risk of mold. Focused Energy – Encourages the plant to put energy into strong bud production instead of unnecessary foliage. Of course, balance is key—I trimmed enough to open things up but left plenty for healthy growth. Final Pre-Flip Routine • Temps & RH: Holding steady at 22°C with 66% RH, keeping conditions ideal before flower. • 💧 Nutrients: Running the Aptus Holland Clean Feeding Approach with: • Regulator for plant resilience. • RO Water Conditioner to balance pH and improve uptake. • System Clean, even though I’m not using a hydro system, to keep the root zone optimal. • All-in-One Liquid, which is now the primary nutrient source. • 🔄 Watering: Still bottom-watering to keep gnats away and encourage strong root growth. 36-48 Hours of Darkness Before the Flip Before switching the room to 11 hours of light and 13 hours of darkness, I’ll be giving them a 36-48 hour dark period. This technique helps signal the plants that it’s time to transition, leading to a faster and stronger flower initiation. Photography & Details Of course, my Sony A6000 was in action, capturing all the unique traits of these mutants after defoliation. The leaves, the structures, the roots OMG the roots and the crazy details on each plant continue to impress me. I’ll be sharing some macro shots soon!
