Hey bud, welcome to my Growdiary for my third grow featuring Stracciatella by T.H.Seeds.
My favourite smoke ever was Do-Si-Do grown by a local coffeeshop, so when this strain popped up as a limited edition on Zamnesia, I knew I had to pick up a pack for myself, as Stracciatella is a cross between Dosidos and Strawbanana cream. T.H.Seeds describes its taste as creamy with chocolate sprinkles, that sounds fancy, the flowers also look beautiful, and I would love to see some color in my garden.
My germination method is pretty standard, I drop the seed into a glass of luke warm water placed inside a propagator on top of a seed mat, I leave it overnight but usually this step only takes a few hours untill the seed is fully saturated with water, starting the germination process.
then I'll drop the seed in a seed pellet and cover it by squeezing the top shut.
This time it took 26 hours before the seed surfaced, and another 24 hours later until I had a healthy little sapling, my fastest germination yet. I am looking for a mother in these 7 seeds, It's probably not going to be this little fella, but who knows, she sure is off to a great start.
This will be a hydroponic grow, using a Bubble bucket built from a food safe 5 gallon mayonnaise container that I got from an industrial kitchen, and a Netpot from Alien RDWC, a system I would love to be able to afford one day. I'll show pictures of the bucket, and the rest of my setup
in week 1.
28/05/2021 is what I will consider day 0, the germination process took a little less than 50 hours this time around. I also made a little oopsie and forgot about humidity, the tent was 38% RH at the time of transplanting, this is not good, our little sprout was used to 100% humidity inside of her warm little dome, I likely shocked and stunted her. The plant spend a full day under these low humidity conditions and will bounce back and hopefully resume vigorous growth.
I'll be running Plagron nutrients, they're a local company and have a great reputation for use with marijuana, Ill use their schedule as a guideline for feeding. The reason I have already filled the bucket and transplanted is because this is my very first DWC run, I want to see how pH rises in my setup before roots hit the solution, there's plenty of oxygen bubbling up through the clay pellets so our plant should be fine, nature will figure it out, or won't and we'll walk away with a lesson learned, I'm not scared to make mistakes when it comes to this hobby, I respect and learn from every mistake I make, half the fun is trying new stuff and seeing how the plants react.
I'll be using the same grow setup from my other diaries, a Mars Hydro tent and light, both have served me well and I feel like I finally have an idea how to use the TS1000 without light burning my plants, we shall see if that holds true in the future.
The bucket is a food safe mayonnaise bucket from an industrial kitchen, the pump is a small pond pump, should be enough for our little 5 gallon bucket, I have tied both airstones together under the net pot, The net pot is from an alien RDWC system, its nice and soft plastic, if you are in the market for a crazy expensive RDWC system, check out Alien, if the rest of their system is as good a quality as their net pots, sheesh.
I dont have a chiller and summer is around the corner, so we will be battling water temperature, that will be interesting for sure!
Thank you for checking out week 0. I'm sure next week's update will include some actual plant growth, it's always a bit slow to start, got to give the little thing the time to get established.
Enjoy the rest of your week and keep growing!
Some growth, my little plant is still getting established but she's healthy.
I have decided to buy a cheap peltier system, the water temperatures are spooky for me, it should arrive somewhere this week, speaking of water, I had brown foam which scared me, after emailing the growers over at Plagron, they informed me its perfectly normal and a sign the bacterial conversion has started, still, they recommended to only add the organic nutrients 2 days before a tank change, so I'll listen to that sage advice.
but for now, I'm not sure if I want to add organics and bennies, we'll see.
Still shooting for around 0.8 EC, and trying to figure out how much pH down it takes to swing from 6 to 5.5, it's tricky. her roots are not coming out of the net pot yet, but they are submerged, I feel like my soil plants usually start exploding around day 7 - 8. In comparison this plant seems to be a tiny bit behind, she's healthy and doing good though.
Maybe they need a little more time to get established in hydro, or, more likely; I slightly stunted this girl transplanting early and forgetting about RH
I think I will veg for 5 weeks, still debating between FIMing and Topping for this run.
Thank you for checking out week 1 of my growth Diary of T.H.Seeds' Stracciatella, have a nice day & keep growing.
Welcome and thank you for checking out week 2 of my stracciatella dwc project!
This run might involve a few more mistakes and learning curves I had not first anticipated, first of, i'm still trying to figure how to swing pH, I don't think the plant is appreciating her water making massive jumps in pH as it has been doing, as a result of all of this, growth has been a little slower, but the plant looks healthy and now at the start of week 2, is finally established and has a few roots touching the nutrient water, I've got the reigns back on this grow, for now.
I've decided on my feeding schedule, and since there's not a lot of people growing with Plagron in DWC, I'll have to experiment myself.
I have taken Steven from Plagron's advice and will be running synthetic nutrients during the week, adding organic additives to my reservoir at the end of the week, and refreshing my reservoir with fresh water after the weekend.
so for now in week 2 my 20L bucket its
Monday to Friday 1200 EC of Hydro A&B
Friday to Monday 20 ml of Power roots & Pure Zyme get added to the reservoir
It makes me a bit nervous, you can see the brown water and foam from the organics in the pictures, its for sure going to stain my roots, but we will see!
I have installed a Webcam in my tent, and will try to create a time-lapse of growth next week, which should be fun.
Thank you for checking out week 3 of my Stracciatella DWC grow!
Quite a bit of growth this week, despite me running into quite a few problems this week, we had a heat wave and I was not prepared, causing some heat stress.
I topped the plant at the 5th node and added some LST anchors, I will be topping her a few more times whilst low stress training .
I'm still going with the same strategy of adding organics during the weekend, but I'm still not sure about it, especially not with the heat, Power roots does discolour my roots and causes some black gunk to accumulate at the top, I don't like that.
speaking of discolouring, Biobizz CalMag makes my water super cloudy, which I hope is normal.
I'll be moving my tent to a better climate soon, I do believe the heat further stunted my plant, She's still doing well however and it should be smooth sailing going forward, Unless nature throws something else my way.
That's it for this week, I also shuffled some of the week 1 and germination photos around, since the 3 day week was bothering me.
Thank you for checking out my Diary, Keep growing!
Heya Bud, Hope everyone had a great week, my little plant sure did, there has been a lot of green growth after topping, she's turned into a small bush.
I have been a bit under the weather, but I'm trying my best to keep up with LST and topping, I expect another week or two of veg, just to be safe. I don't know this strain at all and I really want to fill my tent, so far it reminds me of my very first plant which had long, dense colas, just like that plant, this one is starting out very short, dense with tight node spacing.
Unlike my first plant though, this one is a photo-period and I have hold of the reins, I decided to not add organics to my system this week, trying to hunt down the source of dark gunk that collects around my roots, i think it might be bits of peat from the starter plug, it rinses off easily.
My webcam froze a few times and I lost some footage, but you can still see the growth!
I have topped her a total of 4 times this week, the goal is an even canopy and I cant allow one branch to take over to much at this stage.
Trellis in next week? maybe? who knows, definitely a skirt clean-up in the future, I like it when my ladies can breathe down there.
Thanks for stopping by, stay safe and keep growing.
Heyo bud,
Did some serious training this week, all lower growth was removed, kind of like a lazy main-line. She's as good as recovered and bushier than before defoliating it all! You can see her bounce back in the time lapse, its pretty cool!
Still chasing the gunk around the roots, worried it might be rot, treated her with some h202 whilst I shop around for some bennies here in Europe, if you have any advice hit me up!
Rot or not, the root growth this week was great, despite the absurd amount of stress I put her under, Maybe this little girl isn't so weak and behind after all, the genetics seem hardy.
going to let my little plant recover as I keep adjusting ties, I want to find a solution to my root issue and have a bit more green growth before I flip to flower, I'll reconsider my flip date next week, I don't want to veg too long, I do need weed in my Jars.
Thanks for checking out my Diary, keep safe and keep growing!
Heyo growmies, hope y'all had a good week.
Lots of things happened this week, I had to move the entire grow operation in preparation for the summer, so excuse the lack of pictures and time lapse, I did manage to record the plant recovering from another round of defoliation!
After adding organics at the end of this week it became clear I needed Beneficial's, my roots were slimy, I promptly cleaned the plant, put her in fresh clean water and have introduced hydroguard to my system at double dose, I suspect most of them will die to the h2o2 so ill add some more later next week.
I'm considering flipping to flower somewhere during week 7 or at the end, I feel like I've spread her out enough to fill out the tent, according to the breeder she stretches 1.5 to 2 times, we'll see.
Enjoy your week, stay safe and keep growing.
Heyo growmies
Flipped to flower! Obliviously the plant is still transitioning and there are no signs of flower yet this week.
Roots are nice and healthy and absolutely loving Hydroguard, there is no more muck collecting around my pumps or roots.
Overall my training in veg could have been better, I could have followed a guide like nebula haze, but instead I sorta just winged it, it remains to be seen whether or not it pays of in flower, I'm looking for dense nugs, and not a lot of popcorn.
My cooling isn't sufficient, but I have some DIY tricks up my sleeve to keep this bucket cool.
Hoping to see some color on this girl, I've only grown green weed so far and would love some pretty flowers, that's all for this week, thanks for stopping by.
Stay safe and keep growing.
Hope you guys had an alright week, the rain and floodings here in Europe has wreaked havoc on my outdoor garden, however this diary isn't about my Chamelauciums, its about that sticky green stuff.
and boy this lady has started her stretch! I think I might have made the right call flipping her when I did because I can tell she's going to stretch big.
Made adjustments to a couple of things this week; my bucket needed more oxygen, so I got a bigger pump and I have fixed my temperature issue by Literally just aiming an air-conditioner at the back of my tent, where my air pump is and as a result, now my water remains a chill 18 degrees!
I also need to start keeping my tent closed, even though I absolutely love watching my plants during the day, some critters have made their way inside, eating at the leaves, for now in veg I don't really mind all that much, but I don't want any creepy crawlies when flowers start forming, those are mine and mine alone, not sharing those with any grasshoppers!
I recommend keeping a go pro or something in your tent, its quite fun to observe grow, like how the leaves droop 20 minutes before lights out, and start praying upwards before light comes on, these plants really do get into a sleep like rhythm. doing a diary in general just adds a whole lot to the hobby, whether you do a private catalogue, or public, try it!
Thanks for stopping by, I suspect we'll see the first signs of flowering next week, I've never grown this Strain, but I can see a few pre flower pistils forming as I'm typing this.
Enjoy your week, as always stay safe and keep growing.
Hello Growmies! Welcome to Week 3 of flower of Stracciatella in a bucket!
this week the plant continued her stretching, received aggressive defoliation and finally showed sex! I'm hoping to see the beginning of buds soon.
I cleaned up her entire skirt, big leaves that were essentially just sucking up energy, small nodes that would never have grown to anything etc, when I do this I usually leave a few ugly big, energy sucking leaves, my reasoning behind this is if the plant struggles from a mobile deficiency, it will pull those nutrients its deficient from these bigger leaves, indicating me that there is a problem, without and before the sugar leaves getting hit. that's the theory anyway
aside from stretching I also messed up the light schedule a couple of times this week, at one point in the dark cycle the light came on for 20 minutes, and then last night I left the tent open during dark cycle for 6 hours, hopefully this won't cause the plant to reveg, or delay her flowering
I'll be keeping my eye out for any possible hermies.
'Sup Growmies, hope everyone's crop is doing great!
Buds! flowering has started and the first bud sites have established, my canopy is pretty even, and I am pretty happy with her at the moment, I cannot wait to see how these flowers develop!
The tent smells amazing, I cannot place the smell, its not your typical early flower weed smell, most of the normal green growth chlorophyll smell is already dying down.
My time-lapse camera broke, so i'll have to figure out something new because I really liked watching them grow. also added some extra shots of the canopy in the video, which is probably what I'll do next week as I find a solution.
I also want another bucket, outside of the tent, acting as reservoir, I think next week I am going to turn this DWC into a 1 bucket RDWC, for easier access and more importantly better temperature control.
Plus, this plant drinks way too much, I can't keep up, even with this massive 33 Litre mayonnaise bucket, I'll add a picture of what I have in mind..
Next week I am starting Green sensation, its a finisher, which will give this girl access to some much needed PK for those pretty flowers.
Thank you for stopping by, enjoy the rest of your week, stay safe; and keep growing!
Heya Growmies, this week was pretty eventful
first off, the plant is in flowering in full force and doing really well despite a lot of user error throughout its life!
I mentioned last week I was going to do two things, the plants last major defoliation and turn my DWC into a 2 bucket RDWC.
I have managed to get around to both, I am always anxious when defoliating, scared of taking off too much but this time I really pushed my comfort zone, let me know what you think.
before, in my other grows, I have a lot of larfy buds, I dont want those, I want tight, dense small nuggies, I think one of my bigger problems back then was defoliation amount, I just left too many fan leaves.
RDWC.... Let me just say that I have proven to myself this week that I'm not destined to become a plumber, in my first iteration the drain line was too small, causing the pump to overpower it and overflow the plant bucket, I changed out the hose for some 50mm pvc tubing, which worked wonders, for the first few hours I sprung leaks and had to pull my plant out during her dark period to fix it; no bueno.
All is well right now though, no leaks and everything is circulating nicely at 500 liters an hour. I could probably get a bigger pump, but its fine, I'm going to stop tempting fate.
From here on out honestly, theres not much more for me to do other than go into the garden, pull a fan leave here or there, check flowers for nanners and balls and adjust the water. It's on cruise control now
Stay safe out there growmies, keep growing!
Yo what's up growmies.
smooth sailing, no more leaks have sprung, the buckets have been recirculating nicely, it seems as if my mad idea to turn my DWC into an undercurrent RDWC mid flower wasn't so mad after all!
the plant bucket is as good as off limits now, its a whole lot of noodle, the roots in it have swallowed my InkBird Probe, which has been kept at a cool 19 degrees steadily. I'm happy i have an easy access bucket now, though, i noticed that if i do not aerate the reservoir, black smuts starts collecting on the bottom, so I put in some better air stones and we are good now.
As for the plant; after starting green sensation these things have become incredibly sticky and smelly, I still cannot place the smell! i like it a lot once i'm acclimated to it, but when first opening the tent it attacks your sniffer quite violently, this is not a stealthy strain, she is resinous and loud.
I think I am happy with my training and how she turned out with a few exceptions, next time, I'm growing following a guide, like Nebula Haze, whilst taking clones.
I know this is week 6 of flower, but honestly its more like week 3 or 4 of actual flower, hence why i waited so long to add PK to the mix, this girl took a while to hit puberty and start flower production after flipping to 12-12, Im not sure if its the strain, a fuck up on my part, or just nature being nature, she did seem to stretch after flipping and before starting flowers, so I'm going to guess it's one of those Sativa quirks where it all just seems to take...a.....little.......longer.
which is I will also set up a veg tent, sick of waiting for flowers! gotta keep that perpetual grow going, you know how it be.
Stay safe and keep growing
What's good growmies!
This plant REEKS Even with the air being vented outside trough a carbon filter, the room still has a weak "eau de Stracciatella" I don't have the vocabulary or nose to place the scents like some growers can, all I know is, its f-ing loud and she's only mid flower, I *cannot* wait to smell this baby when she is cured.
I'm following Plagron's Feeding Shedule, I posted it a few weeks back, I dropped all organic additives, however, so no Sugar royal, no Pure Zym and sure as f no Power Roots, even though I contacted Plagron and have been told these additives work wonders in Hydro, I just can't, it makes the water black, gunk collects around my roots and pumps, if anyone has any advice or insight as to what I'm doing wrong, please let me know, But my gut is telling me I do not have the money or equipment for Organics, the fact that I'm expected to replace 50 liters of reservoir every 48 hours in and of itself is a massive deterrent.
that rant aside, Green Sensation is obviously doing work, however, I noticed my EC rising all the way up to *2.4* this week! which is absolutely no bueno, a couple of fan leaves started showing some burnt tips, Luckily its DWC and a quick adjustment with a few liters of plain Ph'd water immediately stopped that.
Why was my EC rising? well the logical answer is Overfeeding! plant is not taking all the food I'm giving her so as the water gets taken up, the nutrients become more concentrated, so to fix that I'm halving my Green sensation dose, DWC kicks ass when it comes to this, there is little guessing, and a lot is measured.
and as we all know, what gets measured gets managed.
This Diary is on cruise control, I don't think aside from watching those nuggies fatten up, there will be much change in this garden from here on out.
I'm starting another Diary soon, Zamnesia send me some Runtz to grow and show the world, which is great because I was planning to grow some legendary Runtz anyway! 😉
got a closet I'll be turning into a Autoflower/Veg tent, get some babies started in there using kratky, then once the time for flower comes, drop em into RDWC
Thanks for stopping by this week and observing my baby's development, she's quite a slow finisher, but I'm growing fond of her.
Stay safe. Keep growing. ✊
Heyo growmies!
The smell is so potent, i have only grown 4 strains to this point, but this plant seriously knocks all others out of the park when it comes to smell, this is not a strain you put in your backyard without upsetting some neighbours.
following last week's EC observation I have lowered my nutrients down to 1.8 ec, keeping the same amount of green sensation. I'll be monitoring the reservoir in any case, there is currently no sign of nutrient lockouts or deficiencies.
the only issue I see one or two colas are starting to show some early signs of light stress, So once again I'm faced with a decision, do i turn down light intensity, making the lower canopy suffer, do i leave it and have a few foxtail buds and burnt fan leaves or, do I hst the colas that are getting too close.
That's an issue I would like to be moot in future grows, I want to get good enough at training that I can have a completely even canopy.
in the middle of the week, when changing out the reservoir, I noticed some buds are starting to show some colors, nothing impressive, just the tips of calyxes and fan leaves turning purple, still, I love the way her flowers look.
she's very slow to finish and I cannot wait to see the end result.
I am making good progress on my veg closet, i'll now have space for a mother plant,so my hunt for a strain and pheno i love can begin!
I will be starting another diary featuring Zamnesia genetics next time, I want to bulk up my stash so i've germinated 2 Runtz and 1 Wedding Cake Automatic. I will move the Timelapse to that grow, it's more interesting to see small plants grow rather than an old girl bulk up her buds.
Stay safe and keep growing✊
Hello Growmies!
This week most of the pistils have turned amber, branches have started flopping over and the trichomes are beginning to appear milky, I think the harvest window has opened.
I have had to put up a couple of plant-yoyos, every time i touch this plants my hands are mad sticky.
the tips of some fan leaves are burned, I think I need to lower my Green sensation dose a tiny tad, I have rising EC issues even after lowering overall EC, which tells me that my plant isn't using all the PK, I guess this pheno is a little sensitive to nutes. next reservoir change I will be dropping green sensation to 0.5-0.7 ml/l. Or it might just be that the plant is getting to the end of its life span.
Either way, I woulnd't be surprised if next weeks ends up being the last, I might attempt to flush her, I have never done that.
Thanks for checking out week 15, stay safe and keep growing
Hey hey Growmies,
the last res change took place this week, she's running on just Ph'd tap water, I want to try out flushing.
there's a lot of debate and bro-science around flushing increasing flavor, burn-ability and high. I don't care about all that and won't take part in that mess, all I know is that it makes the flowers prettier, and I like pretty things.
3 days into the flush (today) fan leaves and sugar leaves started turning purple with dark red stems, I will continue to let her run on tap water until she's self cannibalised with a pretty fade, at which point I will give her 24 hours of darkness without water, which will give the plant one last chance to squeeze out anything she's got.
That will be somewhere next week, since some trichomes have turned amber, If you're wondering where the time-lapse went, I have started on 2 new diaries. both by Zamnesia, one is a Wedding Cake Auto and the other is a Regular Runtz. Trying out a new way to start my seeds in dwc, namely Kratky, so far it is working out okay.. but yeah I moved my grow cam to the veg closet.
thanks for checking out my diary, bud.
Stay safe and keep growing👌
190 grams dry bud weight, I wont count the hash coins or other trim
I loved growing this plant, what an adventure into DWC, I challenged not only my growing skills but a lot of DIY skills, too.
I'll grow her again somewhere along the road, I'll stick to DWC as my preferred style of growing, and am looking forward to perfect it.
This strain can do better, she got stunted early flower. despite that I still got a great plant and a great smoke
