she is doing great ... growing thick and bushy. she has about 6 main steams and multiple strong-looking branches on each of the main stems. her roots look good even though they are not bleached white, i should put a microscope on the roots one of these days to see the micro root hairs that high-pressure aeroponics tends to promote in plants. i was not sure how to grow her out - i like canopies but she branched out too much to grow in a 2'x2' space so i may have to scrog her in a larger space. i must learn how to ask plants to self-fim as she did - i have never done such a good job with my own hands, and may never.

Animal Mints — Legends of the Frozen North Week 8 from Seed | Week 4 Flower Another chapter unfolds in the frozen north. For anyone joining this diary now, here is a quick recap of how we arrived here. This run explores Animal Mints grown primarily under a 12/12 cycle from seed, allowing the plants to naturally express their structure while moving efficiently into flowering. Most of the plants followed this path from the beginning, with one small exception in the room — a plant that spent about two weeks in vegetative light before joining the 12/12 cycle. Interestingly, that plant ended up being the smallest of the group, showing how genetics and environmental response can sometimes surprise us. But despite those differences, the room now feels unified. The canopy is alive, vibrant, and moving together into the deeper stages of flowering. This week has been a big one. With more than 300 photos captured, the goal was to document every angle of development — structure, branching, flower sites, and canopy behavior — as the plants continue their journey through bloom. ⸻ Environmental Snapshot The room is currently running with fairly aggressive parameters, but supported by strong airflow and active air exchange. Current conditions • Canopy temperature: ~28°C (gradually tapering toward 26°C) • Relative humidity: ~70% (slowly reducing toward ~60%) • CO₂: 1000+ ppm through passive enrichment • PPFD: 800 → 1300 µmol across the canopy These values are slightly on the upper edge of traditional recommendations, but with strong airflow and healthy transpiration, the plants are responding very well. Air movement remains one of the most important elements in this environment. The goal over the next weeks will be to gradually tighten the climate window as flowers develop further. ⸻ Light Strategy The lighting across the canopy currently ranges between: 800 and 1300 PPFD This allows the plants to maintain strong metabolic activity without excessive stress during early flower development. Additionally, we run a 15-minute red light pulse after lights off. This small far-red window helps accelerate the phytochrome transition between light cycles, effectively signaling nightfall to the plants and assisting the flowering rhythm. It is a subtle adjustment, but one that helps maintain consistent flowering signals. ⸻ Under-Canopy Lighting One of the key elements of this room is the use of under-canopy lighting. As plants grow bushier and develop dense foliage, the lower zones of the plant often receive very little light. Under-canopy lighting helps: • increase light penetration to lower bud sites • reduce excessive shading • maintain photosynthetic activity deeper into the plant • improve overall bud development throughout the structure Combined with careful defoliation and strong airflow, this approach helps keep the entire plant active rather than only the top canopy. ⸻ Airflow — The Invisible Engine Airflow is one of the most underestimated tools in indoor cultivation. In this room we rely heavily on constant air circulation and active air exchange. This helps: • regulate leaf temperature • support transpiration • prevent humidity pockets inside the canopy • strengthen plant structure • reduce risk of fungal pressure Plants are living organisms interacting with their environment, and air movement is part of that conversation. ⸻ Feeding Strategy The plants are currently feeding very actively. Feed EC: ~2.4 Soil EC: ~0.9 This indicates that the plants are absorbing nutrients efficiently from the medium. As long as the plants continue eating and the runoff remains stable, the feeding program stays consistent. If nutrient uptake slows or runoff EC begins climbing, adjustments will be made accordingly. For now, the system remains balanced and responsive. ⸻ Nutrient Recipe Current weekly top feed includes: • CalMag Pro • Terra Bloom (base nutrient) • Power Buds • Green Sensation • Pure Zym • Sugar Royal • Vita Race (foliar where applicable) At this stage of flowering, foliar applications are used sparingly. Once flowers begin forming, keeping the canopy dry becomes increasingly important. ⸻ Why Add Power Buds + Green Sensation As plants transition fully into the flowering stage, the goal shifts from structural growth toward flower formation and metabolic support. Power Buds helps stimulate the plant’s flowering response and encourages the development of early bud sites. Green Sensation acts as a metabolic enhancer, supporting: • bud density • terpene production • nutrient transport • overall plant energy during bloom Together, these additives help guide the plant’s resources toward productive flower development. ⸻ Mixing Order — Why It Matters One of the small details that can make a big difference in nutrient stability is the order of mixing. Our mixing process always follows the same structure: 1. CalMag Pro first 2. Base nutrient (Terra Bloom) 3. Additives CalMag is added first until the base EC reaches around 0.7. This creates a stable mineral foundation for the rest of the solution. After that the base nutrient and additives are introduced gradually. Proper mixing order helps prevent nutrient precipitation and instability, keeping the solution balanced and available for the plants. In simple terms: Chemistry matters. ⸻ Defoliation Update This week also included selective defoliation. Some plants had not yet received any canopy thinning, and their structure had become quite dense. Those plants were defoliated more deeply than the others to restore: • airflow inside the canopy • light penetration • structural balance Despite the heavier pruning, the plants responded beautifully. Leaves remain vibrant, growth continues strong, and the canopy quickly reorganizes itself. ⸻ Structural Observations Across the room, the Animal Mints plants show distinct structural expressions. Some lean toward tighter node spacing and compact branching, while others stretch slightly more. These differences highlight the diversity within the genetic expression of the cultivar. Yet despite those differences, all plants are developing healthy flower sites and strong green foliage. ⸻ What To Expect Next Over the next weeks we expect: • vertical stretch slowing down • bud stacking intensifying • resin development beginning • stronger aroma expression Environmental parameters will gradually shift toward slightly cooler temperatures and lower humidity as flowers continue forming. . 🌱 Tag 21 – Eine Woche voller Experimente Drei Wochen alt. Eigentlich der Zeitpunkt, an dem junge Pflanzen einfach gemütlich wachsen, Wurzeln bilden und jeden Tag ein bisschen größer werden. In unserem Fall wurde daraus allerdings eine kleine Wissenschaftsshow mit mehreren unerwarteten Wendungen. Die Woche begann mit unserer ersten Düngung. Für uns war das Neuland und für unseren Gärtner offenbar auch. Nach vielen Jahren mit organischem Dünger musste er erst lernen, dass mineralische Nährstoffe nicht erst gemütlich auf ihre Freigabe warten, sondern sofort verfügbar sind. Das führte dazu, dass wir etwas früher gefüttert wurden, als es eigentlich nötig gewesen wäre. Zusätzlich gab es noch ein paar weitere Überraschungen: Der pH-Wert lief zeitweise nicht ganz wie geplant. 📦 Statt pH- wurde versehentlich pH+ geliefert. 🔄 Bei der ersten Nährstoffmischung wurden Grow A und Bloom A vertauscht. 🌱 Die Düngung begann etwas früher als optimal. Man könnte sagen, unser Gärtner hat diese Woche sehr viel gelernt. Wir Pflanzen nennen das lieber „praktische Feldforschung“. Zum Glück blieb es bei kleineren Problemen. Zwar waren wir zwischenzeitlich nicht immer ganz begeistert von den Mischungen im Tank, aber insgesamt konnten wir weiter wachsen und neue Blätter bilden. Wirklich dramatisch wurde es nie. Unser Wassertank lief die ganze Woche durchgehend. Da er allerdings mehrfach neu angesetzt wurde, weiß inzwischen niemand mehr so genau, wie viel Wasser wir tatsächlich verbraucht haben. Die Buchhaltung wurde wohl von einer Zimmerpflanze geführt. Folgende Nährstoffe kamen diese Woche zum Einsatz: Bittersalz: 0,5 g/L 🌿 Grow A + B ? Silica ⚡ Multi Total Für die nächste Mischung wird das Bittersalz bereits auf 0,3 g/L reduziert. Wieder etwas dazugelernt. Nicht ganz ohne Zwischenfälle verlief die Woche für Pflanze #2. Bei einer kleinen Pflegeaktion wurde einer ihrer Triebe versehentlich angeknackst. Für einen kurzen Moment sah es so aus, als hätte sie beschlossen, den Dienst zu quittieren. Zum Glück stellte sich der Schaden als weniger schlimm heraus als zunächst befürchtet. Der Trieb blieb erhalten und kämpft sich weiter durch. Pflanzen sind manchmal erstaunlich widerstandsfähig. Während Menschen bei kleinen Verletzungen häufig erst einmal das Internet nach ihren Symptomen durchsuchen, reparieren wir einfach unser Gewebe und wachsen weiter. Trotz aller kleinen Stolpersteine wachsen wir weiterhin ordentlich weiter. Unsere Blätter werden größer, unsere Stämme kräftiger und unter der Erde arbeiten die Wurzeln vermutlich längst an ihrem eigenen Ausbauprojekt. Im Vergleich zur letzten Woche sehen wir inzwischen deutlich erwachsener aus. Noch sind wir jung, aber langsam entwickeln wir uns zu richtigen Pflanzen und nicht mehr nur zu besonders ehrgeizigen Keimlingen. Nächste Woche hoffen wir auf etwas weniger Experimente im Nährstofftank und etwas mehr Routine. Andererseits wäre das Leben als Pflanze vielleicht auch langweilig, wenn immer alles perfekt laufen würde. 🌿 👨‍🌾 Gärtner: Diese Woche lief nicht alles nach Plan, aber dafür habe ich wahrscheinlich mehr gelernt als in den ersten beiden Wochen zusammen. Der größte Unterschied zu meinen bisherigen Grows war der Wechsel von organischem auf mineralischen Dünger. Beim nächsten Durchgang werde ich deutlich später mit der Düngung beginnen, vermutlich erst Ende Woche 3. Die größte Erkenntnis war, wie schnell mineralische Nährstoffe wirken und wie wichtig ein sauber eingestellter pH-Wert ist. Mit organischem Dünger hatte ich viele dieser Effekte nie direkt bemerkt, weil die Nährstoffe deutlich langsamer verfügbar werden. Zusätzlich sorgte eine falsche Lieferung für etwas Chaos. Statt pH- kam zunächst pH+ an, wodurch die Wasseraufbereitung deutlich komplizierter wurde als geplant. Inzwischen ist das Problem aber gelöst und zukünftige Mischungen sollten deutlich entspannter verlaufen. Fehler gehören dazu, besonders wenn man neue Methoden ausprobiert. Wichtig ist am Ende, daraus zu lernen und die Pflanzen genau zu beobachten. Bisher haben sie mir zum Glück alle Fehler teils verziehen. 🌱 p.s. neue LST Haken!

I’m Very Proud Of The Of The Purple Power If You Go Back To Week 1 You Will See That She Started Off The Slowest But She Is Now The Tallest In The Pack Standing At 21 Inches (that’s without adding the few cm I covered with soil) She Has Also Shown Signs Of Purple In Her Bud Development (Favourite Color) Can’t Wait To See Them, You Go Girl! I’m Also Proud Of The Gorilla Glu (12 inches) Stardawg (17 inches) And Girls Scout Cookies (16 inches) Development, They Are My Favorite Buds Here In The UK. They Are Very Bushy & Branchy And Their Stems Are Very Thick. They Have The 3 Main Pillars To Accommodate BIG Buds. Happy Growing Everyone. #OwlGang #AGrowingEmpire

Took away some more big fan leaves and tucked a few, exposed some more bud sites 👀👀🙌 I've still been weighing down the stems best I can, slowly bending them into shape but trying not to snap any 🤞 I'm thinking of doing 1 more week in veg and then flipping them to the dark side! Lol We got the shape we need now Time for 1 last light defoilation at the end of the week and then do a PH water Flush before flowering. Can't wait to see these pop! 🌴👽🌴

Week 26/02 - 3/03

Hello grow 🌎! Finally seeing signs of flowering beginning. (Branches alternating, calxes, pistils, etc.) I cut the girls' dose of gro pro which is full of N, way down amd introduced monster bloom and a small dose of nirvana. Was going to tie down branches but realized that it would make draining their buckets near impossible. So I decided to use bamboo sticks to "position" branches in spots of light and out of tge way of others.

Week 17 Last week before harvest. Just let the plants ending the maturation process. Good synchronization between the different strains, selected with an approximate identical flowering period. I want harvesting all the plants at the same time. Flowers are dense, hard and thick, pretty resinous. 4 strains = 4 different smells, 4 different colors….🤩 I flushed consciously and stopped watering 4 days before the harvest day. I turned off the light during 48h, with ventilation on. All is ready for the cut. Date is programmed to the full moon period….why not…🤔 I will trim a little bit the plants before cutting and hanging them in the tent with the same ventilation cycle, no light of course…

My first soilless grow, i hope everything is gonna be alright They got out 03/07/2018 I started watering 0,4 l per plant with 167 ppm on the 4th day from seed, i used 0,210 ml/L Floramicro; 0,420/L FLoraBlomm; 0,05 ml/L CAliMAGic

El ph se controla en 6.5, la temperatura la tenemos entre 24/21 grados y la humedad ronda el 50%. El ciclo de crecimiento puse 12h de luz, el foco está al 50% de potencia. Tenemos como visitante de nuevo los trips, compré depredadores que colocaré a principios de semana. Fo' Twenny Back with another update on our Grandaddy Purple from Blimburn Seeds! She is looking really good this week. She still have a few of the feformed leaves that look wrinkled. From some googling, I would guess either Tobacco Mosaic Virus or just a natural deformity. She a cutting from a previous run and she has it then too. It isn't wide spread and she still put out quality medicine. Even though she wasn't very Grandaddy Purplish, she was still gassy and frosty! Other than the funky leaves, she looks super healthy with her leaves "praying" to the canna-gods! Now, let me nerd out with the deets! LIGHTING: Increased lighting at dimmer last week with good results. Was about 70k LUX on average @ Canopy. Turning it up a bit more this week. 8 Outer Boards @ 665.5w 6 Inner Boards @ 601w LUX APP MAXES OUT READING 78750 LUX @ Canopy. Lets hope its not too much! RHIZOSPHERE: If you didn't tune into the last update, I had just flushed pots due to high PPM runoff. pH of runoff was at 6.3. PPM and pH are tested using 2 separate calibrated BlueLab meters. Got a new light this week, it's basically a HLG 260 R-Spec except locally manufactured using the same Samsung LEDs. Big Mumma got her 60x60cm tent today and will go in there under one Viparspectra 300W blurple (130w from the wall). I trimmed her, super cropped her main stem and added a scrog net in preparation of flowering her in the next couple of days. Because my other plants were getting up past 75cm after 7 days of flower (100cm is my absolute max) , I decided to supercrop the canopy back down to about 60-65cm - it was pretty scary and I definitely broke the outer stem on some of them. Also gave them a good trim. Fortunately most bounced back strong the next day which are the most up-to-date photos you see (17/4/20).

Both plants topped above the 4th node with everything below & all fans removed using a torch sterilized trimmer. Tops soaked in reservoir water with a pinch each of Recharge, Azos, aloe & coconut water powder, dipped in clone-x, then placed in Root Riot cubes that are contained in an ACI clone dome set at 75°F. Dome lights set at level 2. Bud clips applied to each branch & trunk manipulating to 90° angles. Cover crop chop & dropped. All material removed from plants salad chopped & added to the mulch layer of respective container. Hand watered both containers with 1/2 gallon 6.5 ph, 11 ppm, plain reservoir water mixed with 1/2 tsp each of coconut water powder, horticultural aloe powder, Azos & Recharge. Tray2Grow remains inactive until Sunday morning. Expression #1 Pre-Training Height 7" Width 20"×19" Post Training Height 3 3/4" Width 4" Expression #2 Pre-Training Height 8" Width 16"×15" Post Training Height 4" Width 6" Maintaining DLI-25 & VPD-0.85 to aid in recovery.
