Born in Fort Collins in the late 1990s, The Cough—also traded as Fort Collins Cough or Colorado Cough—blends Northern Lights #5 and Haze into a classic sativa-leaning profile. Tall, long-branched plants with vigorous stretch finish in roughly 70–84 days, rewarding dialed-in growers with heavy, well-set colas and resin-frosted calyxes. Its nose opens with sharp pine and citrus over a pungent, earthy backbone; on the palate those notes resolve to spicy-herbal accents and a clean, conifer bite. Typical batches clock between 15–23% THC with trace CBD (up to ~1%), delivering an effervescent, euphoric lift that turns talkative and bright without knocking focus off course. Expect a buoyant, upbeat cruise more than a couch-lock—hence its reputation around campuses and creative shops alike. Indoors, yields can push roughly 300+ g/m²; outdoors, a well-sited plant often tops a third of a kilo per specimen. Training (LST, topping) helps manage height and stack the canopy. Though the original breeders remain part of Colorado lore, the cut is widely regarded as a clone-only heirloom from the CSU era, preserved by local caretakers.
