3/18/2021 - Today is the first day - I use a glass of water for the first 12 to 18 hours and then into a paper towel it goes for 24 to 48 hours. Should have them ready to plant by then!!
3/19/2021 - poured the glass onto a paper towel, popped it into a sandwich bag and blew in it before sealing. Hopefully in 2 days we have some tails!!
3/21/2021 - We have one tail so far today - its a little under an hour till the full 48 hour mark - may have to go another 12 or 18 hours before we get the second...
Planted both tonight...one had just cracked the hull and the other had a tail showing so I thought I'd give it a shot
3/26/2021 - Unfortunately the second bean never cracked open. I'm gonna continue to water it along with the seedling going in hopes that before I transplant I will have two plants.
- The one that did germ is doing well - not stretching too much right now, which is good. Had some trouble with that my first time around.
- Under a humidity dome until I up pot in a week to a week and a half.
- I'll be up potting directly into a 5 gal I think - and then a 7 gal maybe one or two weeks before flipping to flower.
- The casing is still on the seedling but I expect that to fall off in the next day or two
week of 4/1/2021
4/7/21 - It was a really busy week for me and so I did not get the update up as planned My apologies - however, the week for the ladies was overall good - not so much for this lady. It is having some issues - It has just been a really slow grower for me. I think I may have transplanted it a little too early...we shall see
Maybe it is a little bit to hot for the soil after the transplant - or maybe I watered a little too heavily after transplanting. Whatever it is I'm gonna let it dry out for a couple of days and then water lightly for the next week or two and hope it perks back up.
If anyone has thoughts I'd love to hear them. The tips of the leaves look dead and are a little crispy to touch. Not crumbling off yet but feels like that'll be happening in the next week maybe.
During the previous week I put my soil together. It sat for 8 days before I transplanted. Composition is below
reused/recycled 1.5 cubic feet of Fox Farms Ocean Forest Soil
brand new 1.5 cubic feet of Fox Farms Ocean Forest Soil
amended with:
-8.50 cups of worm castings (Worm Gold)
-0.75 cups of Granular Humic Acids (Down to Earth)
-0.20 cups of Langbeinite (Down to Earth)
-0.50 cups of Seabird Guano (Down to Earth)
-0.50 cups of Insect Frass (Down to Earth)
-0.50 cups of Kelp Meal (Down to Earth)
-3.50 cups of Bio-Live (Down to Earth)
I used this brand before (Down to Earth) and absolutely loved it so I'm using it again.
Week of 4/8/21
- Only watered once this week - 6.2pH - just watered lightly around her, maybe .1 gallons
- This has been by far the girl that has struggled the most. I think she was too small to go into this pot and the soil might have been a little hot for her.
- Plan on topping late this upcoming week.
Week of 4/15/2021
This week has gone well so far for this girl...
Its a slow grower - again, I think that is mostly my error more than anything wrong with the plant.
It does seem like she is starting to take to the soil and looks like I should see some good growth in the next week.
Watered once with a pH of 6.6
No training yet for this girl...maybe I'll top next week, but that all depends on how it continues on.

Week of 4/22/2021
4/23/21
- She is looking good so far this week...will be keeping an eye on the growth.
- It's still gonna be a week before I get to topping it I think(If I do at all...we shall see)
- Gonna water once this week -gonna shoot for a pH around 6.2 to 6.4
4/28/21
- Did not end up watering this week.
- Saw a few fungal gnats and so I'm giving a bit of a drought period to help kill the larvae
- Ordered some sticky traps to deal with the flying adults.
- Planning on topping her early on next week.

Week of 4/29/2021
Everything went really well this week.
Started the 18/6 light cycle on 4/29/21 and will slowly titrate down to about 16/8 over the next couple of weeks until flip
Watered on 4/29/21 at 6.8pH and used .4 gallons each and left a runoff of 1.3 gallons for all 5 sharing the same runoff bin
Topped her on 4/29/21 before watering her
Pretty excited about the explosion of growth after the topping. Its shot up through the whole week!!

Week of 5/6/21
Really not all that much to report from this week. Everything went smooth
I turned the light intensity up to 50% on 5/8/21
I amended the soil on 5/11/21...the amendments as follows:
-0.25 cups of Worm Castings (Worm Gold)
-0.25 cups of Insect Frass (DtE)
-0.125 cups of Seabird Guano (DtE)
-0.062 cups of Langbeinite (DtE)
I then watered both at a pH 6.5 -
Gave each 0.75 gallons -
Left a full gallon in the runoff for all 5 ladies in the tent

Week of 5/13/21
Really not all that much to report this week...
I think I gave a little too much in my top dress last week - I am seeing some signs of nute burn
But - I am not too worried about it.
I ordered some Recharge and got it at the end of the week and will use it in my next watering.
Hoping that will reintroduce more bacteria/mycorrhizae and help use the top dress properly
I watered them all on 5/16/21 at pH: 6.1 -
Gave each 0.75 gallons -
Left a full gallon in the runoff for all 5 ladies in the tent

Week of 5/20/21
I mixed the Recharge in at 0.75tsp per gallon after pH got down to 6.8
I then watered in on 5/22/21
Gave 0.75 gallons -
less runoff this time...gave about a total of 0.50 gallons
Not much else to report with this week. Everything seemed to go well
The Recharge did okay for this girl
She grew several inches and seems pretty hardy
There are a couple of leaves that show some signs of a little too much nitrogen...
But - not to worry...I think with a week of plain, properly ph'ed water it will be fine.
The stem rub is very fruity mixed with a kind of chemical funk...kind of a tangerine that's been dipped in an intense floral perfume.

Week of 5/27/21
Switched to 11/13 on 5/28/21
Watered in on 5/28/21 at a pH: 6.75
Gave 1 gallon
Defoliated right before watering in on 5/28/21
It was a pretty hefty defo but she bounced back fine the next day.
Not much else to report with this week. Everything seemed to go well
She continues to grow at a fairly even rate
Seems to be quite healthy this week.
The stem rub is still fruity mixed with a kind of chemical funk, but more on the chemical side this week...kind of a tangerine that's been dipped in an intense floral perfume.

@Minuteman_Organics, I appreciate the tips - never thought of that before. I used paper towel for both of them at first and had 5 of 6 ready to go so thought I'd try popping it in the soil and see if I could get it to go. Still learning and experimenting with what I like and will definitely make use of that for the future. Thanks!!
I've had beans not crack right away for me. A good tip is to rub the seed on a rough surface. I like to use a dry sponge. This will create tiny cracks that allow water to penetrate the seed coating. Works almost everytime
