ok, the other grow isn't going brilliant, so assuming that's going to die let's start another one with the freebie seed
19th, seed straight into a solo cup of biobizz light mix mixed with some extra perlite, didn't go crazy with the water and gave it a stir with a chop stick
20th, no change, added a zip loc bag
21st, no change
22nd, had a little look in the soil and i think i found the taproot... might have wrecked it by not leaving it alone... gave the bag a spray of water
23rd, she's up and she's wearing her husk with style. gave her a little spray and sprayed the bag and put her back... germination stage done
23rd, ok so this morning she's up and she's looking good... seedling starting veg today
24th, looking good, a lot taller today, i'll drop the light down a bit, it's probably a bit high right now
25th, progress, gave her a little spray of water
26th, small bit of water but growth is super slow... added a new heater to try to dial in the environment, but I think there's something wrong, growth is so stunted compared to other diaries after 4 days of seedling
27th, progress, but slow progress, gave her 3 or 4 sprays of the spray gun, just brita filtered tap water
28th, no change, doing about 10 sprays of the spray gun
29th, she's pretty tall, so i backfilled again and put a bit of soil around her base to stand her up. she was flopping over so i wonder if she's thirsty. 25 sprays from the spray gun in the morning.... went back up at 6pm and gave her 100ml of filtered water
30th, she isn't dead after the 100ml i gave her yesterday, so that's good. Gonna leave her settle now for a few days to really dry out the soil
31st, nice progress today, not giving her any more water today
1st April, no water, moving up nicely
2nd, solo cup is light and the top2 inches of the soil are bone dry, so I'm going to give her 100ml
3rd, massive growth!
4th, looking good, leaving her alone
5th, transplant day - on to her final home. rootball held toghether well although she had a small bit less on the roots front than maybe she should have for a transplant... next few days will be interesting
Apr6 - looking good in the new pot. 100ml filtered water
Apr7 - maybe looking a little bit yellow
Apr12 - gave her a little space for a few days, pot feels pretty dry again, so i'll do another 100ml of filtered water. no sign of nutrient deficiency as far as I can see?
Apr20 - 250ml with 0.25ml of bio-bizz grow
Apr21 to 23 - no more water, leaving her be
Apr24 - topping
Apr25 - seems to be doing fine, removed a few more lower leaves
Apr26 - all going fine, no water... probably should look at it tomorrow
Apr27 - forgot to check on her
Apr28 - YIKES!!! She needs water asap - 300ml with about 0.5ml of BioBizz grow
Apr29 - seems ok again
Apr30 - going away for the weekend, so added another 300ml of just water and topped the pot with some all mix... let's see if she survives for 3 days
Apr31 - ?
May1 - ?
May2 - ?
May10 - growth around where I topped is flying - i've raised up the light another bit
May11 - 250ml water
May12
May13 - 250ml with 0.5ml of biobizz grow
May14 - fan leaves begone! took out all of the bigger leaves, removed some of the smaller leaves along some of the stronger looking lower branches to try to encourage more growth at the end bud site and used some flexible garden wire to do some LST
May15 -
May16 - 250ml with 0.5ml of biobizz grow
May24 - no change, no water
May25 - pretty droopy.... probably a bit impatient, so I gave her 500ml of water with 1ml of bio grow.... still no runoff from this plant...
May28 - 500ml with 1ml of biogrow,
May29 - 500ml with 1ml of biogrow and 1ml of biobloom. flipping to flower tomorrow. There are pistols which I think mean its ready and I didn't realise that this thing will likely double in size in flowering... i thought veg was for size and flower was for flower so I guess that's a pretty major learning point! so tonight will be the first night of 12 hours sleep and that's what I'm calling the start of flowering
Week Start: May 30 (Flower Day 1, Overall Day 70, Plant height 16", Main Stem height 9")
May30 - Not going to water today, just going to let her figure out the new lighting arrangement. Definitely some new growth at the very top of the plant over that first night. I did feed yesterday, but I haven't seen a drop of runoff from this plant since day 1, so I'm going to put through a bit of water in a couple of days, maybe try a full litre and we'll see what happens then for a few days. my defoliation was a bit of a noobie effort for this plant and I ended up with a bottom and a top with no middle, so I expect the bottom stuff to suffer a bit without access to light so we'll see how that plays out
May31- leaving her to get used to the lighting for another day
Jun1 - she looks good, going to leave her dry out one more day
Jun2 - ok, wilting is pretty bad, should have done this yesterday. 1L of water with 1ml biogrow and 1ml biobloom - only a dribble of runoff
Jun3 - increase light intensity from 25% to 37.5%
Jun4 - 1L of water with 1ml biogrow and 2ml biobloom - no runoff
Jun5 - increase light intensity from 37.5% to 50%
Week Start: Jun6 (Flower Day 8, Overall Day 77, Plant height 18", Main Stem height 9.5")
Jun6 -
Jun7 - 1L, 1ml bio grow 2ml bio bloom, no runoff
Jun8 -
Jun9 - raise light intensity from 50% to 65%
Jun10 - 1L, 1ml bio grow 2.5ml bio bloom,small bit of runoff
Jun11 -
Jun12 -
Week Start: Jun13 (Flower Day 15, Overall Day 84, Plant height 19", Main Stem height 9.5")
Jun13 - 1L, 1ml bio grow 2.5ml bio bloom, small bit of runoff, raised light intensity a small bit
Jun14 - hot in there
Jun15 - no water
Jun16 -
Jun17 -
Jun18 -1L, 1ml bio grow 2.5ml bio bloom
Jun19 -away
Jun20 - away
Jun21 - leaves looking a little yellow in the middle... not really a little, a lot yellow
Jun22 - 1L of just water
Jun23 - leaves nice and strong, but the yellowing is definitely getting worse
Jun24
Jun25
Jun26 - 1L, 1ml bio grow, 2.5ml bio bloom - yellow still really bad, also should have fed her yesterday.
Jun27 - she looks pretty strong, but the yellowing is bad
Jun28 - definitely needs water, but I'm also afraid she's burned... maybe should have given her some food... didn't
Jun29 - 1L, 1ml bio grow, 4ml bio bloom - also top dressed with some all mix to see if that helps with the yellowing. theory is that the plant is draining nitrogen from the leaves because it's underfed and stressed, so I'm going to increase the watering schedule to 2 days, see you on the 1st
Jun30 - no change
Jul1 - 1L, 1ml bio grow, 4ml bio bloom, 4ml Bio Heaven - introducing the bio heaven on a recommendation
Jul2 - still quite yellow, but the temperature has been super high recently
Jul3 - 1L, 1ml bio grow, 4ml bio bloom, 4ml bio heaven
Jul4 -
Jul5 - just water, 1L
Jul6 -
Jul7 -
Jul8 - 1L, 1ml bio grow, 4ml bio bloom, 4ml bio heaven
Jul9 - hey, these look pretty close right? need to get a loupe, but I think we're flushing from tomorrow?
JUl10 -
Congrats on the grow!
Came across this on the home page. I looked at both diaries and I believe I may be able to help.
I think you are over watering. If the stats are correct (a spray isn't a valid measurement, but assuming any spray it would still be to much) Second the amniesia looks over watered. it is stunted small and clawing in. My guess is the leaves are soggy feeling.
Here's something that might help and how it was originally explained to me.
When the plant is in early veg / germ it is best to water and wait for it to almost completely dry out the first couple times after a transplant. The reason being is the roots need to go searching for water and or nitrogen in order to spread out. If it is always wet then they wont develop youl get salt build up where they arn't its just alot of problems.
What I do, I plant into a started pod (you dont have to a solo cup works fine) when I put the sprout and pod into the solo cup (maybe 5 days in) I put it in with pre mix and watered coco that I fill the new container with. I usually dont water at all for about a week. (ambient humidity 34% 74F.) When I do water with the next week I make sure its a good thourough water then wait again usually about 4-7 days. So basically Im soaking the solo cup 1 time a week.
Now this could change based on your environment yes, however with a seedling its just so much of a difference......
I wouldn't get to caught up in peoples germ times or water cycles in comparing them to your own. You can train a plant to drink more and in some ways thats better but in alot of ways not. Also sometimes diaries are misleading. If you look at mine for example each day that referenced for each week has plant conditions including nutes, but that doesnt mean I watered that day it just means that's what its currently feeding.
Anyways I know thats a book and a half but I figured it might help you. I, and alot of us on here, have made that exact same mistake. I even do now sometimes.
Good luck!
@Orchard, ok, i'll keep an eye on the weight for sure. i have those root riot cubes also and I'd say I had the same thing happen with one of the seeds. and i wet them a small bit with an organic root booster. was afraid of toxicity at that young stage. I doubt she was snug enough in there though, that's a good one to think of next time
@BonesJones123,
Thats exactly what I would do. I could be wrong but im pretty sure. Try this, take 2 solo cups fill them with medium only, then water one entirely. Pick them up and feel the weight difference. If your weight is that of the soaked cup well then its soaked....
Your doing a great job BTW I know this can get frustrating and the amount of snake oil or bullish people say works is everywhere. Ive learned I do better the more in tune with the actual plant I am and reading its "signs". I was actually horrible at this and why I did ebb and flo for years first. Its something that develops with time so dont worry.
Keep up the great work, and sometimes the hardest thing to do with these plants is to leave them alone lol.
Good luck,
any other issues feel free to shoot me a PM
One more thing I forgot about root cubes. (I use Root Riot)
When you use them soak them in your pre mix nute then give them a gentle squeeze so they arnt soaked.
When you use those be carefull of the premade hole in the pod. If this hole is loose or to big (IE: if you can see the seed down in the hole) they will start in the hole because of the little bit of light then start to develop and get stuck in the pod and die. The pod should be snug around the seed not loose and visible. This just happened to me and murdered my germ stats.
