Sorting out phenotype on Novarine THCV.
Half a percent of THCV in Sativa buds gets me good clean high. Wonder what five percent THCV would do.
Bought a 7-seeds pack from Cannapot Hemp shop. A friend helped share cost with me. I popped three seeds right away and passed on four seeds to this person.
Germination was difficult. After seeds cracks, it took a week before they popped above the ground.
Soaking Step – seeds cracking was slow.
Soaked all three seeds in hydrogen per oxide solution. After first day, only one seed cracked. And I kept them in soaking cup.
A day later, the all remaining seeds cracked with small tails. Total soaking time was 40 hours at 28 degree C.
Cotton Pad – tails came out okay.
I took and extra step and put cracked seeds in moist cotton pad for one more day. Many people don’t like this. And it is for a good reason. Handling at this stage create unnecessary risk of breaking the fragile root and destroying the seedling. Still, I am paranoid about burying seeds in the soil and having them never pop up.
True Leaves step was very slow
Carefully placed the seeds in old soil with mycorrhiza. I did not mix in Trichoderma to combat mold. I want the mycorrhiza to survive.
Two seedlings showed true leaves after five days. Usually it only takes a few days. And a full week after root cracked did the last seedling poked her green leaves above ground.
Transplanted to 25-liters basket. Trained the plant. And accidentally split the crotch. Bind them back as usual.
Two main branches are developing well. I trimmed the lesser lower braches off. And I kept the two main stems with the split.
Tied the split labeling wire. Five days later, the split healed. Main stem grew and wire bit into the growing stalk.
I then change the wire into a softer plastic rope.
By the end of week 8. The split mostly healed and I removed the rope.
Then I tried to train the two stalks. And I broke one stalk. Full Moon Party is brittle with hollow stems. The stems behaves like ruderalis.
Oh well, I feed Full Moon party with Root Start additive. This Roost Start has NAA that thicken cell wall. I must wait one more week before attempt to clone. I never had luck when I tried to clone hollow weak branches.
Cheers.
Elite Seeds Novarine THCV pheno selection run.
After slow start, Novarine THCV seemed to have established root system. And the two plants are growing normally. There is a bit nutrient locking out from excessive Nitrogen. I am transplanting these next week. So, at this time, I am not to worry about too low pH.
Plant 3 is growing outside.
I am still delaying decision to scrap the slow plant.
.
Elite Seeds Novarine THCV pheno selection run.
Novarine THCV plant 1 and plant 2 are more than ready to come outside. I have re-potting them with fresh soil and earth worm casting on the last day of this growing week. Also pinched the top of plant 1&2.
I tasted the tops. They were very spicy. May be this THCV is meant to be cooked instead of smoking.
We are having summer storm. Heat and humidity are high. There should be no issue during vegetation stage.
I hope that Plant 3 just had a slow start. At the end of the week 4, plant 3 is the same size as her brood mates after week 2. I moved her back to ICU light box. Hope she would make some progress next week.
.
The first week that I put Novarine 1 and 2 outside was full of rain with low light. Novarine stretches and became fragile.
I tried to train top of Novarine 1. And I screwed up. I broke of one branch. Thinking about chopping the top for clone later. This would leave the base to spread. It would slow down growth for a few weeks. But I did grow Novarine too soon in the year. Delaying it a bit may be good.
Plant 2 leaves were yellow. Sure enough, pH was too high. It is almost neutral. Funny that on plant 1, soil pH was the same but she was quite green. Perhaps more indica in the genetic blend.
Next couple of weeks, I’ll try to lower pH with wood vinegar and humic acid.
.
Recovering from high pH with mixed successes. And aphids starting to build up colonies in my garden.
Novarin plant 1 kept on stretching after one top branch broke off. She has only one top and is 55 cm stretchy tall. She was grown with same soil mix and had the same pH but there was no sign of leaf trouble as in plant 2. Seemed to be an easier phenotype to grow.
Plant 1 is getting tall. I am thinking about cutting her off low to let the tiny branchlets at the bottom grow. It is a bit drastic. On the other hand, I am getting into my wet season. Plants will have to veg for three more months before they go into flower. There is plenty of time.
Tackling pH issue. I added wood vinegar to water. The watering pH was around 5.5. Use the sour water twice. And the soil pH did not budge. I think the problem will go away only when I change the pot size with new soil. I think charred rice husk and large pumice tends to increases pH. I need my acid producing microbes.
Plant 2 leaves were yellow. It seemed like starving plant. And since I did not get pH to move down, I fed by spraying a quarter strength of orchid fertilizer on leaves.
Newer leaves on plant 2 seemed to have green up. But there are still yellow leaves in the middle. Next week, I spray one more round.
Plant 2 is either difficult or has voracious appetite. I do hope for plants that eat plenty. Looking at the leaf shape on plant 2, I doubt that she is a heavy feeder. The only way to find out is to slowly increasing the feeding push.
Plant 3 the runt plant is 3 weeks behind her siblings. Leaves are big and wide. I am letting her run for a couple more weeks.
Next week, I’ll be spraying plants with metharhizium anti insect microbes at least three rounds. Forecast is full of rain that will wash off the spray.
Improved grow after trying to lower pH and lowering feed.
Plant 1 got too tall. And I transplanted her.
Plant 2 is spindly. I have ran out of humic acid granules. Need to get new can to mix in soil.
Plant 3 loves the out door. She stretches tall and put up new big leaves in just one week. Think I’ll keep her after all.
Over all, Novarin grows like land race Thai. They feed lightly and likes organic compost tea. They allow seem to love natural sun. Day temp is about 39 C with high humidity. I last may be 15 minutes in the sun then I have to run for airconditioned room.
Think I’ll feed them with more sea weed to control height.
As it is, this looks like a long grow.
Novarine 1 and 2 are improving with soil change. Key was to lower pH. Charred rice husk was bad for these. New soil has soil has earth worm casting and granule humic acid in.
I couldn’t find enough wild purslane. So I got wing pod purslane from flower shop and plant them as base cover for my cannabis. The roots seemed shallow. I think they will help improve soil microbe and over all conditions. Even if they don’t help with the grow, they still look nice. And I think they will recycle very well as a fertilizer.
Plant 1 got taller and the height is 97 cm. New leaves are big and wide. Stems are hollow and buckled when I tried to bend her. I am waiting a week for the stems to harden and will top her. The shape is ungainly. Main stem is thin and is more like a vine. I am planning to take a clone out of this number 1 plant.
Plant 2 is also getting bigger with soil change. She is behaving nicely but noting strange like number 1.
Plant 3 is catching up fast. She is nice but I am not excited by the way she is growing.
Yup, Novarine plants grow like a Thai cannabis. Too much feeding will ruin them. They love natural tropical sun and more organic fertilizers.
Not the easiest plant to train. Novarine likes to climb up like a vine. I should top her early. This week, their leaves improved with as purslane companion plant grow. Thanks to my ZA friend. And Novarine likes a bit sour soil with organic nutes. They do look like Thai Sativa with Rudelaris blend. Outside, it looks like they can go over 3 meters tall if I am not careful.
Novarine 1 keeps going up. She is 127 cm tall. I have crushed her stem and wanted to top her. I wanted to use the tops as clone. Does not look like it will be done that way. Her tops just keep shooting up.
Next week, I shall use smaller branches from Novarine 1 to clone. And I’ll let Novarine 1 do whatever she wants to. Once the clones takes root, I’ll put her into flower to test the effect. So far, I don’t like the shape and should start over with clones.
Novarine 2 shape is similar to Jewish candle holder. Not really a stable shape. Need to stake her and prop her up. Trimmed of branchlets and started to clone. This phenotype is more picky with nutes than Novarine 1. And she is not my favorite during veg.
Novarine 3 started slow. Could be from immature seeds. Her growth pattern is similar to plant 1 but is slower by two weeks. I inadvertently cracked and bended her stems in various spots. And I propped her up with wires. I think I would just keep the clone from wither Novarine 1 or Novarine 2.
Hope to avoid heaviest down pour months. I put Novarine 1 and 2 away from night light to flowering spot. After one week away from night light, the flowers that I see are from purslane companion plant. Novarine continues to veg.
And Novarine plants are vegging well in Thailand 39 degree C. No complain at all. Leaves are bigger and stem stretched. Novarine 1 is a single stalk plant and is 160 cm tall. This plant has to be topped very early.
Since I did not transplant, I have to feed the girls. And I started with half strength bloom mix with bat guano, molasses, and sea weed tea. Also fed her with compost tea. This tea is made from fruit market waste and usually stimulate flowering. And I sprayed her with Epsom salt as I do with my Sativa.
Novarine 3 is pacing along just fine.
Last week I cut branchlets to clone. And all took root after a week. This is quick and easy. I did not even put them in light box. Later, I shall keep a couple of phenotype 2. And I can veg these clones longer for better yield.
Novarine THCV seemed to be uniform and not have wildly different phenotypes. It may have taken a few breeding generations until Elite Seeds got consistently high THCV. The produce was listed as “proximamente” for a long time. And I think phenotype uniformity is a consequence.
Regardless, I cut some branches off phenotype 1 this week. In one more week, I should have more clones from plant number 1. And By the time dry season arrives, I should have a couple Novarine THCV going.
Novarine 1 and 2 are not budging. There were rain this week and plant bend over. They still are happily getting longer. Yes, Novarine is behaving like a Thai land race. So, I expect flowering season starts by late October.
Novarine 3 is also getting along very well.
Strangely enough another plant is not flowering either. This is a Fast Buds fast flowering version tester. So, I can’t blame Novarine for not flowering out door in mid-summer.
Since they are not yet flowering, I added more earth work casting. But I also gave each 1 teaspoon of bat guano and molasses.
Clones started to rooted. And I have more clones than I need. I may try to flower the biggest clone instead of the main plants. Best not to replant the clone that I want to flower then. Keeping Sativa weed in small pot and let them be root bound usually get them to flower.
Still no sign of flowering.
Transplanted Novarine plant 2 into a 50-liters container. The spot is under a big shorea plant. Shorea is a South East Asian medicinal tree. This is minimum light spot in my yard. Hope she would flower. I choose plant 2 because I think plant 1 will stretch even further.
Plant 1 was also moved to a shaded spot under an tree jasmin. This Millingtonia, Indian cork tree. I have sweet flowers all year round. People told me that dried tree jasmine flower mixed well with weed and is good for people with ashma and sinus. Kind of useless since why would asthmatic people even smoke?
Plant 3 is my back up until I come up with a way to put her into flowers.
Clone are doing nicely. And I am growing 3 clones from plant 1 and only one clone from plant 2. I’ll be donating the rest to friends with weight and blood sugar issues. By year end, I probable keep only one or two clones. One clone from bigger branch is growing just fine without any benefit form lighted grow box.
Feeding plants with mid-level dose of cow manure tea and earth worm casting tea to keep leaves healthy. They should have been given a light dose of fertilizer. However, the flowering purslane are also eating and feeding soil microbes.
Got my paws on triancontanol and brassinolide. Perhaps these will jolt Novarine THCV into flowering. Triacontanol won't dissolve in neither water nor alcohol. And it is emulsified with polysobate.
Mixing of Triacontanol
Triacontanol does not dissolve in polysorbate. It is rather emulsified. Means that it need to be melt and there need to be water added.
My steps,
1) heated 70 grams of polysorbate in a big heat resistance glass cup. I used a beaker. Mix in 5 grams of triacontanol. And it does not melt.
2) Put in 100 cc of water and put in microwave. After the mix is boiled, triacontanol melt. There is foam. So a bigger cup and a spillage plate would prevent problem with my better half.
3) After heated, the mix is better. Then I added hot water from to make total 250 CC of solution. Then, the mix is clear.
4) Label the dose with pencil. This works better than labeling with ink.
I use 5 cc at a time for my entire garden. 250 CC would last me 50 doses. No need to buy so much. This is cheap. Let’s see next week how effective they are.
After applying brassinolide, pistils started to show. This is unusual for Thai dominant strain. Hope they don’t, revert to veg.
Plant 1 is showing pistils. She is tall and standing at 180 cm. In the back ground, there is an Fast Buds FF7 plants standing at about 2 meters tall.
Plant 2, is in preflower. Pistils were seen. Nothing to get excite about. Again, hope that she doesn’t revert.
Plant 3 has big leaves and is developing well. I need to find space for her to flower. Perhaps a good spot would be next to plant 2.
Clones are doing wonderfully nice. Gave some plants away to friends with blood sugar issues. I like the way that clone from plant 1 is growing. She has big leaves and long stem. With early training, this can be managed. On the other hand, plant 2 is bushy and is easier to form. So, I am keeping a couple of each until I get to test the effect. For outdoor, plant 1 is good. For indoor, plant 2 would be a better choice.
And Novarine, clones seemed to do well regardless if I use light box or not. May be it is because my night light is a bit stronger with solar powered night light.
Feeding plants with mixture of two bat guano types. Fresh guano that is high in K and N. And guano phosphate from deeper layers of guano mine.
Guano phosphate is from insectivorous bat cave.
It is also call heavy guano, fossil guano, or rock guano. Guano phosphate is about 40% in phosphorus with low nitrogen and almost no potassium. It balances out high potassium guano during flowering. Moreover, Guano phosphate is pH neutral. This removes one variable away from soil acidity management. Another good thing that it is a good source of chitosan from insect remains. However, an annoying part is that a good part won’t dissolve. It is good as slow releasing phosphorus source for fruit trees but has to be use with care for ganja.
. I put in one tablespoon of standard bat guano in six-liters water bottle. And I add another tablespoon of guano phosphate. Then, I put in another tablespoon of molasses and let the tea sit for 24 hours. And I use only the tea part. Undissolved pebbles were thrown under my lime bushes.
Molasses will wake the microbe in guano before putting them into soil.
My plan was to feeding them Novarine plnats vegging nutes. This week, I gave the plants only guano. Normally, I ferment guano as a tea. This week, it rained almost every night. So, I gave guano as powder. So the fertilizer won’t get wash off each night.
To dilute the guano, I put one table spoon of new guano (k) and half table spoon of heavy rocky guano (p) in a cup. And I add about 50 CC of earth worm casting to this cup and mix them well.
I think diluting the guano help spread them more evenly. And 50 CC of earth worm casting won’t give off too much nitrogen.
Heavy rain helped with bug control. The baby bugs drowned. Still, I spray one weekly round of anti-insect microbes. At this stage, the plant immunity seemed to be dropping. Together with microbe spray, I added iron and triacontanol.
After sprayed with brassinolide, Plant 1 and plant 2 flowers developed much faster. Big difference in one week. I also started to feed the two ladies with guano.
Plant 3 was transplanted to 10 gals pot. I moved her to a shaded spot to flower. She has big leaves and stretches in similar manner as plant 1. Since this one grew a bit slower, I did not take clone from her. I also sprayed her with brassinolide and triacontanol mix. Two days after the spray, pre-flower is shown. Normally, it takes a week in the shade before preflower pistils would start.
Clones:
Clones from plant 1 stretched do much the stem started to break. I made an effort to prop up the branches. Lesson from mother plant is to leave Novarine with branches. Otherwise, she just wants to go up and up.
I am not transplanting her just yet. She is long and tall but the root had not fill up the 3 liters pot just yet.
Clones from plant 2 is slower and internode distance is not as long as plan one clones.
A noticeable effect on brassinolide spray is the healing rate. I broke a couple of flimsy branches during usual training routine. The break mended and make strong callus within three to four days. This is one third the normal recovery time of previous incidents that went without these brassinolide. More leaf braches developed but not quite as pre-flower.
Plant 2 flower smell like tarty mango. And the flower bouquet looks legitimate after four weeks. Lightly fed cow manure then it rained.
Plant 1 flower is developing slower than plant 2. It has a classic fox tail Thai sativa look.
Think I shall feed bat guano next week. Novarine does not seemed to take much nutrients.
And plant 3 just got started into this flowering game.
Clones:
Clones from plant 1 grow faster and stretched more than clone from plant 2. It is easier to see this stretch from clones than from seeds.
Clones from plant 2 is slower and internode distance is not as long as plan one clones. If the effect from clone 2 has as much THCV as advertised, then I prefer this shorter and faster phenotype.
The timing of clones vegging is fine. In a couple more months, they will be the size that I like before going into flower. So, early part of flowering should be in the rain. And as flower stack up, the weather should be drier by then.
Had featuring guests this week. It’s a singing family band call the Geckos.
Refreshing mango smell. Well, I still can smell so it is a way to check if I caught Covid yet.
Novarine plants in mid flower are healthy. Strong resistance to mold. And they are light feeder.
Plant 3 flowers developed quickly and nicely.
Clones:
Plant 1 clone is ready for transplant. I am keeping only one.
Plant 2 clones can use one more week before transplant. I hope the stem thicken a bit. I think I like plant 2 better and keeping two clones.
Fed plants guano and salt peter. I mix half a spoon of guano and half a spoon of salt perter in 6-liters jug. Then fed three to four liter of the blend to each plant.
Remarkably uneventful.
It rained heavily every day this past week. Plants are packing flower and seemed fine in the middle of the rain.
There was no feeding as torrential rain would wash fertilizer all away. Plants are growing fine and packing flower okay.
Plant 3 thin stems flopped from weight of water and flower. There was no breakage and staking will easily take care of the issue.
Transplant clones to 25-liters basket. One clone from plant 1 and two clones from plant 2.
Think I’ll harvest within a week or two to test the effect. Better harvest early with less weight than suffer from mold.
Novarine is coming down. It is very early but I don’t want to risk mold in 80% humidity and rain.
Under a microscope, trichome still has a long way to go. It is short and generally clear.
Regardless, these should give me a good idea of effect.
Plant one was harvested. She had not lived her full yield potential. Again, it’s the wet season that I am worrying about.
And after a few days, number two will follow. I want to check flowers weight and effect from each phenotypes and will dry them separately.
Plant 3 flowers are thickening. Seemed that production won’t be too bad even grown in 30 liters pot.
There was no feeding on plant 1 and plant 2 this week.
I fed plant 3 with light dose of guano tea.
I let her go the full length the weight would have been better. Flowers is leafy and fluffy. This girl is hard to trim and I was lazy.
It was raining all week. And Novarine 2 flower started to rot. This is the cost of my complacence. And I lost the top most cola. Oh well, there is still plenty left to test the THCV effect.
Both plant 1 and plant 2 have many larf buds. It is okay for pulverized decarb powder as tea. However, I think it is better to trim off all the smaller branches and buds, the so call “lollipop” shape. These would only produce larf and add unnecessary work.
Novarine 3 keep going. Flowers are thin and airy in the same manner as phenotype 1. I don’t like this. Regardless, I fed her with salt peter, molasses, and yoghurt. And I’ll take her down at the end of August. Number 3 is coming down by the end of August.
No more small clone left. And the clones are getting too big too fast. I want to keep them in veg for at least two more months.
Effects of high THCV content are unusual. I found the most useful trait is anti-anxiety / anti-paranoid. By itself, Novarine THCV is not good for recreational use.
On the other hand, Novarine blended with other strong Sativa is offer great high without the negatives. And the most popular effect would be hunger suppression for dieting.
I definitely do not recommend Novarine for recreational use. There will no medicinal benefits as in other cannabis. Novarine THCV is a specific medicine. It is excellent weoght losing tool without negative effects of methamphetamine drugs.
Another intersting aspect is reducing paranoid and anxiety. This could be from from weed induced or post traumatic events. On the ohter hand, Novarine won’t get you very high.
My over all rating is an 8
Effect – 7 for unique effects but Novarine is not for ever one.
Ease of grow – 8. Easy enough for outdoor with strong tolerances to host of things. For in-door, she needs constant management with long internode distance.
Ease of flowering – 10. Wonderfully easy to manage.
Smell – lovely 9.
On smoking experience, the effects from all three plants were similar. Smells were different but all were good.
During grow, flowers fragrance was fruity mango. Then as they cured, marvelous smell from different phenotypes emerged.
Plant 1 and 3 are cure to sweet fruity mango. Smell like candy African/Thai hybrid Sativa. And plant 2 has classic Thai ganja with fruity, hawthorn berry.
Taste was fairly smooth and earthy with a tinge of spicy anise.
The high from all Navarine phenotypes are similar and not like any other weeds. And high seemed to come in two phases. At first, the effect started out by a good head whacking with a bit of dizzy ness. Eight to ten percent THCV is very strong. The hit was quick but euphoria is mild. Felt like my heart was beating faster but I was not hyperactive. This phase lasted for about two hours.
Then, there was no hunger and no thirst. Novarine was not quite an appetite suppressor. It stops hunger but you can eat just fine. I smoked before lunch. Normally if lunch comes late, I would have hunger fit. My hands would be shaking and my mouth drooling. But with Novarine, I did not feel it. Nor did I get the cannabis thirst or parched mouth. And after smoking Novarine for two hours, I still was not hungry. By midafternoon, I thought that I better eat. Then, I enjoyed my lunch just fine. No loss of healthy appetite. So, Novarine does not help with gluttony. If you want to enjoy food and sweet, it won’t stop you.
Another wier part is that Novarine did not lift my mood. There was no giggling, no craziness. And I know where I was and what I was doing. Time passed by normally. And I was focused. I was doing things and conscious on how I was doing them. I mechanically followed routines and was not bored. I was all business. And Novarine did not make me more sociable.
Novarine also causes mild obsession. Once I started to do one thing, it was hard to switch doing one things and move to another task. Would be good for people with attention deficit issue. In this aspect, Novarine gives focus but not chilling out.
I think Novarine would be good for repetitive Hufflepuff task or burn session the thread mill. I can just keep going at one same pace for a very long time. And it would be great for aggressive sports like boxing and football. Novarine is the weed to ignore hunger and pain.
After the third hour, I transitioned to the second phase of the high. Mild euphoria crept in. I was finally in a good mood and chilling out. Only then, I became more friendly and started to smile. Total high lasted more than 5 hours. And much later in the evening, I was able to sleep well.
A friend with weight issued decarbed Novarine with 150 C temperature. And she infused Novarine with coconut oil. She takes about 15 drops of 10% concentration oil before her big meal. And she is ecstatic about losing her stubborn weight. She is a real fan.
With weak euphoria, Novarine is not a good recreational weed. And I got mild high, and it was not clear headed sort of high.
Investigating Novarine other supposed other effects, there are; reduciton of anxiety, lowering of blood sugar, anti-Alzheimer, and promoting bone growth.
Well, I am not willing to break bones to prove that part.
Sinc It did not lift my mood, I tried Novarine with crazy paranoid inducing Sativa. I blend a quarter of Novarine weed with three quarter Zamaldelica. Zamaldelica is a head scrabling strong Sativa with way up high including temporal anomaly zone out warp. I meant to have 2% THCV in the smoke mix. This would be higher than other “high-THCV” strain that I had.
The resuting effect was great. I got good high without being over hyper, all positive vibe without the nagging feeling. The hit quick and strong. I smoked this blend in the evening and went to bed happy.
On the other hand, with the blend, I got thirsty with cotton mouth.
For the sake of thoroughness, I blended Novarine with Indica dominant White Critical. This usually comes slow with couch lock stone effect. Blended THCV let the high started quicker. I was active for the first two hours. High was less and it was not a good thing. Then later, the knockout came hard and I slept well. I don’t see any benefit from blending Novarine with Indica.
Harvest was not as it should be. This grow was “off season. And I did not let the plant reached full harvest potential for fear of mold during thunder storm season.
Plant 1 yielded 46 grams, one and a half ounces
Plant 2 yielded 57 grams, two ounces
Plant 3 yielded 30 grams, One ounce
Each plant grew differently.
Plant 1 and plant 3 were slim Sativa type. They stretched tall without much root and branches. The internode distance was about 8 inches, 20 cm.
Plant 2 develop better bush. She was still a tall Sativa but the internode distance was less at 6 inch, 15 cm. My preferred phenotype is plant 2. Plant 2 yielded the most with nice berry smell. She branches better with more volume in her flowers
Novarine grows like a Thai plant would. Flowering is easier and shorter than a land race Thai.
My impression of growing Novarine:
Light feeding, top and train very early, trim to lollipop shapes. The sucker branches are tiny larf. These small branches are not only total waste of time but are also disease magnets.
My impression on Novarine THCV growing characteristics.
Highly tolerance of mold even in tropical raining season.
Highly tolerance of insect and strong but not strongest tolerance to mites.
I think the long inter-node distance helps with both insect and mold tolerance. But Novarine needs hep with trimming. There are too many suckers branches.
High tolerance against sogging wet soil from three straight days pouring rain. However, I do use very airy coconut husks and grow in basket. I also use mycorrhizae and purslane companion plants to help feed the roots.
In my set up, Novarine like only light dose of phosphate and phosphoruous. The leaves get yellow withing a day of bat guano.
Novarine is tolerance to high pH. They were okay at 6.8 pH range. I should aim at 6.2-6.5.
Novarine clones easily enough. And there are plenty of small branches during trimming.
I think those high temps can be great (though certain strains just cannot cope well), but then coupled with LOTS of lighting (including ambient), carbon and pretty "hot" soil mineral/nutrient rich soil (to kinda maximize efficiency). Kind of a tricky balance though.
But I mean, when that "donkey dong" thing (Rose Quartz) grew here, it got super hot there. Some days the temps would be like around 38c, but the air temperature in the area it was growing was insane, I mean absolutely insane, because of all the reflective walls around it. Like 70c air temps in late summer/start of autumn there. Couple of minutes there and I'd be losing liters of water. No idea how the plants managed, but they did, grew large, potent as well.
And bizarrely, I just check some info about Galinsoga, it's sunflower family (asters) and I did mention the kaurenoic acid of sunflowers...
But this is interesting (regarding your son)...
"Galinsoga also has some medicinal uses as a topical treatment for nettle stings and for coagulating blood in minor cuts. "
Maybe as a food/supplement it could have similar systemic effects.
@Med_in_Tropic
That's kinda interesting, I think i've used purslane once or twice (quite a while ago) in a "tea".
Regarding your water mention, shit, there's this very common plant, Galinsoga, grows stupid fast, very efficient...but I don't specifically know much about it.
Anyway, while soaking a big ass avocado seed in water and it taking super long, I decided to throw a bit of soil in the water...so 3 weeks later, I check a bunch of Galinsogas seedlings floating in the water. I figure, well that's pretty interesting. So I check the sediment at the bottom of the little cup, and I shit you not, like the things rooted and are growing ENTIRELY underwater, with practically no light. They are NOT aquatic plants.
I ain't seen shit like that.
@sir_isO, I do blen charred rice husk in my mix. My issue is absorbtion. Did try adding pottassium phosphate with citric acid yesterday. In a week, I would be able to notice the result.
My soil is well fertilized with earth worm casting. And I am experimenting with two spicies of purslane. Trying my third species. Getting flowering purslane seemed to be the easiest. The flowering type grows faster.
But I like my beach purslane. When I collected these beach purlane, they were under sea water. I think I can get them to be my organic pottassium factory.
I'll see if I can just feed them with heavy dose of pottassium salts and then chop them up later.
Sugars for acidity/microbial activity could help. I'd kinda look at epsom salts too, considering the look of those plants (not only for the magnesium, coz you're in heavy rain area sulphur tends to go away, from what I know), but yeah...
You'll figure it out. Good luck.
@Med_in_Tropic,
Yeah that's kinda consistent wherever you find politicians. Very obvious correlation.
But yeah, in the past 8 hours, 5.6, 5.9 and 6.7 earthquakes. Some mid 5s just before that too.
@Med_in_Tropic,
Did you check the earthquakes lately, dude? Bunch of ~5.5-6.0s in the past day or so (a bit more than usual).

Fairly big geomagnetic changes/effects recently, too (like the past 15 hours or so I guess).
Yeah that purslane is a bit different looking to the stuff that grew/grows here. A bit more stretchy seemingly...but anyway, hope it has some kind of benefit. And yeah, at least the purslane that grows here has almost insignificant surface roots only.
It certainly didn't hurt the plants it grew with here (and it seemed to keep some more annoying things away, as it was completely open area but practically zero ground related pest issues, weeds, etc)
Interesting that the rice char was "bad" there, simply too alkaline mix, not "loaded"?
The thing about using stuff like char is you have to kinda "temper" it before using, so you might mix it with some soil, throw a bunch of milk, fertilizer, molasses, etc at it, let it "age" for at least a few days, and maybe try to get an idea of the acidity fluctuation/stability before using it for proper grow.
Cheers, hope it goes well.
losing appetite after a smoke, sounds like what golden tiger does. really for a long time I haven't had a weed not making me hungry.golden tiger does..maybe there is thcv in it as well. and very good to hear it's against prostate
(right after this I checked Ace's website, golden tiger doesn't seem to have a considerable amount of thcv....)
@Med_in_Tropic, 3rd version is thai version with different thai landraces in it. all you can do is to buy older version of GT and wish yourself luck to get a malawi dominant pheno 😃 I'm away from my GT buds, on a trip and I've taken only a little bit of A5 with me. I'll be back to GT in a week or so and make a review about it.
@HighRoller909, I want to grow Golden Tiger anyway. I need a bit of pure Sativa every now and then.
A bit confuse about different versions of GT. I am from Thailand and I don't like the high land Thai genetics. In general, Thai is cheap bag weed where I am at. And Aftrican is exotic to me. 😃😃😃😃😃
As it is, Ace does not ship to Thailand and I have to go through some agents. And no agent carry the full Ace range. My dream weed to try is GT/Panama cross.
My season to order is in June. Also had payment issue this year and was not able to order this 4/20. Oh well, it is not the season and I have plenty of clones to play with. If I don't change mh mind, I'll start GT early July.
That plant looks interesting, like it wants to be in a larger space, more light. Dunno how large those grow, but it looks like grows large.
It certainly doesn't look bad, but there's some considerable stretch there, seemingly. I reckon it might be super efficient.
Interesting that you noticed the leaf colour improving with purslane, I mean I've not actually compared something like that, it just seemed to be nice with the weed plants when it grew with them.
Could it be that the purslane acts as a sort of rain buffer at the top soil, so less nutrient runoff/flushing?
It's also possible the purslane sort of stimulates tryptophan related bacteria and root exudants, as tryptophan is precursor for melatonin, and purslane makes quite a bit of it.
The fact that it can root from even a small piece of the leaves probably also means it has peculiar hormonal stuff.
@Med_in_Tropic,
I'm not so big on alfalfa tbh. I think there are better additions, especially if you already use kelp stuff.
For me it's like, sunflower, amaranth (coz of their behaviour and uniqueness)...
Also gotta be careful with where you source alfalfa, a lot of it is kinda "crap", chemically treated and whatnot.
@Med_in_Tropic,
I think a potentially good "fertilizer" or composting plant, for a number of reasons, could be amaranth. They are also quite peculiar, imo.
Squalene, being one reason why. Amino acid balance, another. Like even a mix of hemp and amaranth seed flour could be quite good...
Great write-up.
I've just been trying my Seedsman THCV and its quite different, quite bright, active and I feel Vaping this first then some more regular weed later it makes the later Vape very mellow and not last as long. (This isn't a complaint btw, just an observation)
@eurorack, THCV actually helps me with diet. I can stop reaching for snacks in the evening especially after dinner. Yeah, doesn't give as mush of the happy vibe.
There is one guy is actually a fan of THCV. And he bought most of my THCV buds. This guy is a body builder. After his body fat gets low, he has trouble sleeping. Other weeds made him lazy. THCV weed let him sleep then get up and train for body building competition.
These days, I infused THCV to oil and take a couple of drops in the evening. Less weed hang over in the morning. And I see that RQS came out with high THCV. May try to grow it next year.
Thanks @sativaman,
As always, i get my ideas from here. These were from @GYOweed. And same as you do, i looked these up on the internet. This time, I ventured so far and went into “scholar” section. Painful reading 😀😀😀
Then there are a few you tube vids o how to mix.
Finally i looked up a few shopping webs and get the cheapest source. I thin Note Brassinolide concentration claim is by the seller. Manufacturer(s?) guaranteed concentration at minimum 0.1%. So dose can vary. It depends how you guess the concentration.
And on these, little goes very long way. 5 grams makes
50 bottles of 2-liter spray. Literally cost only a few pennies per dose.
@GYOweed, 😀😀😀😀😀 yes, ii curse. Not very often. One time when i did tat, my boss laughed and said i was glad to see that i am normal.
Nutrient marketers don’t declare having triacontanol and brassinolide. These have been in the market for 10 years. And you were taking about it. Cheers
@Med_in_Tropic,
The blue widow was to me a 50/50 sort of effect (but we're still talking 20%+ thc sort of thing) with excellent yield, very tough plant, it was pollinated by a monstrous sativa and a sort of oversized afghan kush kind of plant. So I got quite a few phenotypes from it, some of it smells utterly amazing.
The one I'm currently growing is very clearly from the sativa male parent as pollinator, most of the seeds are from the kush male parent (which was rather large... it was funny, coz I ripped it out of a big pot, literally just pulled it out of the soil, and then kinda forced it into a 20l, it just kept on producing for months).
@sir_isO yes, FF7 was a fast bud tester. That i got last year. This is like the 5th round that i cloned her. Got fantastic amount of strong buds with 50/50 effects. But it is the first time that i try to flower her in mud summer.
Hey dude, random-ish mention. In Tropics, sub-tropics, phosphorus mobility is HEAVILY affected by citric acid. And I notice that's a common problem with plants grown in those areas (they don't bulk easily). Just figured I'd mention that as a reminder. Sure, other things are also involved, but it's one of the more fundamental, easier to address factors.
Citric acid is good as both soil drench and/or foliar spray (though as foliar spray it ain't gonna aid phosphorus uptake, good antifungal and such though), depending on conditions, circumstance.
@Med_in_Tropic,
Dunno if I linked this...
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/50514198_Citric_acid_enhances_the_mobilization_of_organic_phosphorus_in_subtropical_and_tropical_forest_soils
"Soil samples tested in this study were collected from either native or plantation forests in subtropical and tropical Australia with 16–87% of soil total P being in organic form. At a concentration of 10 mM organic acid kg−1 soil, all three organic acids did not enhance the release of inorganic P as compared with water, whereas the three organic acids displayed different capacities in mobilizing organic P. Citric acid significantly enhanced the solubilization of organic P by 34.7% as compared with water; whereas no significant differences were observed in the mobilization of organic P among maleic acid, oxalic acids, and water. The amount of organic P solubilized by citric acid was not correlated with soil pH but increased with increasing soil organic P as the values were below 200 mg kg.−1"
Hi @Shooey, i want to try THCV as a new effect.
And this Novarine is the first strain that i can get my hands on. Also it is supposed to frow like a Thai land race. That would be reasonably easy for me. 😀
THCV weed is supposed to be a diet weed. It makes you loose your appetite.
If it doesn’t make people paranoid, i think there will be another crowd for this cannabantoid,
Plus it is super to be good against prostrate cancer.
And since i got a couple years worth of stash , i can afford to spend this year seriously exploring this strain 😀😀😀😀😀
Thanks @sativaman, this one is unusual and warrant some study. Update from this one friend with eating challenges . She continuously used Noravine for a few days and the effects do carry over to the next day. She is hapoy and made as if this is her salvation. 😀😀😀😀😀
Again, great garden Med! Lots of great tips and knowledge in your posts!!
Is the fast bud ff7 an auto?
You are an inspiration; lime bush this is amazing! Can you get fruits from the first year?
Thanks @sativaman. FF7 is a fast flowering photo period. It was one of test grow projects from Fastbuds last year. After several grow, i liked anx kept only this strain.
Fastbuds haven’t launch this yet. Maybe they won’t sell photo period at all. (???). They did pump out several autos after test grows.
My lime bushes are mostly Mexican lime. One variety is hystrix citrus l We used these for Thai food and hair treatment. It takes at least a lyear to fruit. Flower starts with root grow. So the get big and is best for out door in North American hot zone. Southern California, Texas, and Florida.
I grow flowers and spices long before ganja.
I have never heard of Triacontanol, which promotes plant growth and accelerates photosynthesis. It is extracted from the Alfaalfa plant (Medicago sativa), which I know well. I always learn something new on your profile. Happy growing.
💚 @Betagemini, thanks for the compliment. Thank for explaining what these are. I was excited about how to convert triacontanol into useful form. And i did not bother to introduce how safe and powerful these stimulants are. 😓 😀😀😀😀 that is the main complain about me from people at work.
Actually used these to brought harvested BB3 fast back to life after harvest. But somehow, i was not able to post it. I’ll try again later.
Happy summer solstice.
39C indoors would be very deadly but plants can handle outdoors I think. There are many factors like winds, underground waters,CO2 right? Indoors we don't have those by default so yes 39 is a great temps outdoors I love it I love hot weather :D but indoors I prefer something like 22C
@HighRoller909, it also depends on the strain. Cold climate Indica and expression of Rudelaris genes won’t tolerate this heat.
Navarine is said to be from a Thai variant. So she grew lijes anative.
