Germination went as follows:
21 hr soak in distilled water - seed started to crack, put into moist paper towel inside plastic sandwich baggie...set on heat mat set to 78*F.
24 hrs in moist paper towel - taproot emerged, placed into Rapid Rooter cube (root down) soaked in 1/100 strength GH BioRoot.
26 hr in Rapid Rooter cube in darkness, almost there.
18/6 light cycle with two 15W “daylight” 5000K LED light bulbs in clamp lights. Did some “surgery” to pull the seed out of the root cube hole, doing so pulled up the emerging sprout 🌱
DOB 04/04/21 (15:40) - Day 1 starts 😃
Transplanted on Day 3. Medium is a mix of coco coir, Fox Farms Happy Frog and added perlite (I estimate a 40:40:20 ratio). Used a little over 1 Tbsp Dynomyco mycorrhizae...mixed a little into soil. Made a planting hole and pre-wet with a 1/100 strength (each) BioRoot and CALiMAGic solution. Added majority of myco to planting hole and some onto the root cube.
Baby Zu seems to be liking the new home. Now that I have my tent and lighting semi dialed in she seems to be growing without stretching up too fast 👌 exactly what I want because I only have the 2x2x4 tent and need to keep it hidden in there.
Fed a little (~250 mL) of 1/100 CALiMAGic on Day 5...forgot to pH. Was around pH 5.5 before I thought about it, but didn’t seem to cause any major issues after an entire light cycle. Set the remainder of the solution to pH 6.2 for the next feeding.
Fed 100 mL of dilute (approx 1/500) CALiMAGic around the outer edge of the medium at start of Day 7.
Also added a second 2 ft SunBlaster 24W T5HO with 6400K bulb on Day 7, and a 10000K Finisher bulb by AgroMax for the final 1-2 hours of lights (swaps with the 6400K). Have the SunBlaster T5HOs posted vertically to two adjacent corners, the Bloomspect SL600 21 inches directly above Zutopia.
Air humidity listed is during lights on, I increase to 70% at “night” right now.
Measurement given is end of Week 1, Zu is almost an inch tall in her new home 🌱
Day 8: Medium was getting pretty dry, especially around the edge. Fed with ~500 mL of BioRoot (1/100) and CALiMAGic (1/500) solution (at pH 6.2)...this is again mostly a water feed.
I’m assuming at this point the medium has about a week of nute content (from the FF Happy Frog) left before I start adding the GH MaxiGro with BioRoot and CALiMAGic at higher strengths (will move up to 1/10 strength of all three).
Btw when I say “1/10 strength” what I do is make a “1x strength” solution of each (for example, CALiMAGic is 1 mL per liter for a standard “1x” solution per the bottle). I would then mix 10 mL of the 1x into 100 mL of solution (by adding 90 mL of water) to equal a 1/10x solution (1/10 the strength recommended by GH). Just wanted to clarify 🙂
Day 9: Got a soil moisture meter, “calibrated” it against my medium in a Solo cup (gradually wet the medium to make sure the meter was reading).
Well Zu’s home was becoming a desert under the soil according to the meter 😳 fed until it was lightly moist...took another 0.5 L of 1/100 (each) BioRoot/CALiMAGic solution.
Day 10: Zu’s doing a funky wave...might be a little too much watering last couple days?
Day 12: Fed 450 mL of BioRoot/CALiMAGic solution (pH 6.2) that was used on Day 9.
Day 14: Fed 600 mL of 1/10 strength MaxiGro + 1/50 strength (each) BioRoot and CaMg (pH 6.2). Started very gentle LST, not much needed yet due to tight node spacing but want to get a head start since I need to keep Zu short.
Day 15 - New training wire 👍 started PureUV T5HO bulb - only 5 minutes today 😃
Day 16 - Medium still moist so no FloraKleen yet, only tightened up the training and increased PureUV treatment to 10 minutes. Happy 420 from Jax and Zu ✌️💚
Day 17 - Flushed with 1 L of FloraKleen. Plan to get at least one more veg feed in, then start my formula to switch to bloom nutes. PureUV up to 15 minutes.
Day 18 - No big thangs poppin’ today, increased PUreUV to 30 minutes...will do the same mañana.
Day 20 - Increased PureUV to 1 hr. Fed with 0.5 L solution (pH 6.3) of:
- 1/4 strength MaxiGro
- 1/10 strength BioRoot
- 1/10 strength CALiMAGic
Added in an Inkbird humidity controller to get RH dialed in 🙌
Zu must be enjoying the love, just saw her lady parts 😳 didn’t expect anything less, these Twenty20 genetics are rockin’ with growmies across the interwebz 😃 💪
Day 21 - Started new training bending the top over slightly.
Day 22 - Fed 0.5 L of 1/4 strength MaxiGro and 1/10 strength (each) BioRoot and CALiMAGic (pH 6.2).
Day 23 - Started adding in 660 and 730 nm LEDs before lights on and after lights off.
Day 24 - Fed 1 L mix of 1/4 strength each GH MaxiGro, BioRoot and CALiMAGic (pH 6.3).
Day 25 - Tightened up training, going to let the side branches start coming up to level with the main shoot. UVA/UVB treatment up to 2 hours at “midday”.
Day 26 - I think Zu is a little Cal-Mag deficient (see pic of Day 26 and better one on 27)...I got away with low dosing to start, now hit with some full strength to charge the medium. Fed with 0.5 L 1x CALiMAGic followed by 0.6 L of pH’d distilled water. Going to start feeding full strength Cal-Mag going forward.
Day 27 - Finally starting to see a little hairy head form on the main shoot! Still stretching out Zu’s arms and opening up good airflow through the plant.
Day 28 - End week 4. Nothing major except tightened training points and took measurements. Main shoot is about 6.5 inches above soil. Going to let all branches grow upwards and gently pull them outwards as they shoot up 🙂
Day 29 - Fed 400 mL of 1/2 strength MaxiGro, 500 mL BioRoot (full strength), and 600 mL of CALiMAGic (full strength). Layered the solutions by applying the BioRoot first, followed by CaMg, and then MaxiGro on top. Swapped out one of the 6500K T5HO bulbs for a 3000K T5HO “bloom” bulb (AgroMax). Now have the Bloomspect overhead, one 6500K T5HO, one 3000K T5HO, and the supplemental reds (before/after lights) going 🙌 Forgot to take pics I was so busy!
Day 30 - Nothing much to add except pics 🙂
Day 31 - Flushed with 1 L FloraKleen (pH 6.2) followes by 2 L of distilled water (pH 5.78). Runoff pH was slightly over 6.5. Fed 1 L of CALiMAGic after flush.
Day 32 - Nada.
Day 33 - Fed 200 mL of BioRoot, followed by 1 L MaxiGro (1/2 strength) and 0.5 L MaxiBloom (1/4 strength). Followed with some CALiMAGic and finally some distilled water. Lights dropping to 20/4.
Day 34 - Nothing special, just pics 👍
Day 35 - Fed 200 mL of BioRoot (pH 6). “Defoliated” by removing the single serrated (first true) leaves and a three-blade fan leaf from the first node. Not much of a defol, more a light spruce up 😆
End week 5, main branch is about a foot tall. Removed most of the training wires so the side branches can shoot upwards. ✌️💚🔥 - Jax and Zu
Day 36 - Nada, just grow baby grow!
Day 37 - Final transition feed, cutting the MaxiGro (veg nutes) out after this. Feed 0.5L (each) of 1/2 strength MaxiGro (1 g/L), 1/2 strength MaxiBloom (1 g/L), full strength BioRoot (1.25 mL/L) spiked with full strength AN Bud Candy (2 mL/L), and full strength CALiMAGic (1 mL/L). Chased with some pH’d purified water to runoff.
Swapped out the last 6400K T5HO bulb for a 3000K...have two 3000K T5HO as supplemental for flowering 👍 finally, took off two more yellow fan leaves (first node and one was low on a side branch...wasn’t getting much light penetration).
Day 38 - No feed.
Day 39 - Fed 0.3 L Bud Candy, 0.4 L CALiMAGic, 0.3 L BioRoot (all pH 5.6-5.7 and slightly chilled)...all full strength
Day 40 - Nothing doin’
Day 41 - Fed 0.4 L BioRoot, 1 L CALiMAGic with Bud Candy, and 1 L MaxiBloom (all full strength, pH 5.7)
Day 42 - Measured in tallest cola at 13 inches (13”) the others around 7” and the mid around 11”. Happy overall for my first time growing and with LST, got plenty of vertical space so haven’t been pulling anything down for a while.

Day 43 - Fed 0.5 L BioRoot, 1 L MaxiBloom, and 1 L CALiMAGic (all full strength pH 5.7). All had full strength (2 mL/L) Bud Candy. Chased the feed with 0.5 L of chilled distilled water with full strength Bud Candy (pH 5.7).
Zu is starting to kick out more frost daily. Keeping the UV tanning sesh at 2 hours daily.
Day 44 - Got a mag loupe and took a nice close up on a leaf edge showing trichomes developing...so stoked to see!
Day 45 - Fed 1 L CALiMAGic (1 mL) with Bud Candy (2 mL), pH 5.7. Chilled in fridge before feeding. Starting to lower soil temp during feed.
