This will be my second attempt after I did horribly the first time where I tried to do it all from scratch. To be more on the safe side this time I'll use a starter kit from Royal Queen Seeds and simply follow instructions on the box.
For the soil I'll use the same basic 6.0 pH gardening soil as in my first try, but I'll add some perlite, vermiculite and some mycorrhiza to improve it. I'll mix it in the ratio of 9 liter soil, 2 liter perlite and 1 liter vermiculite
End of day two after starting the germination process and somethings happening allready. Only the one seed so far however. Fingers crossed the others will awaken aswell 🙏
Day 3 and the one seed has developed rather nicely allready. The others hopefully will too.
Day 6. The one that broke ground died over the last two days. And the other two seeds didn't want to germinate at all. All that allthough I followed the Starter Kits instructions to the T. I can't recommend this kit from Royal Queen Seeds, as it doesn't seem to work all that good.
So my second attempt is over, before I even potted the seedlings into the soil 💩
@homerjgangiagangia, @Ferenc, @BCBGreen
Thanks. At the end of day two one seed shows itself allready. Fingers crossed the othe two will develop aswell.
Hey, for next round try a different soil. If it's the one I think it is (Biolan Turvemulta) it's wayyyyy too high in nutrients and has slightly low pH (ideal 6.3-6.5) which lead to your previous seedlings remaining stunted and dying. It also binds water like crazy, leading to rotting which explains the roots, and adding vermiculite to that would've made it even worse as it specifically holds water in soil longer. Especially autoflowers can't handle heavily pre-fertilized soil, so you might wanna try something like Biobizz Light Mix not to give them more than they can handle. This time it might've been too humid and the seeds rot? The cubes looked really wet, I also would've transplanted the one successful seed directly after germination. Also greetings to Finland(?) 😄 Maybe third time's the charm with lighter soil and less water?
@Blarw, you don't need to spend a lot, the soil is for example not really more expensive, just a different type. In a way weed is very easy to grow, but too much water, not enough heat or just too much nutrients can get fetal in the beginning. Photoperiod ones also tend to be less sensitive than autoflower, but if you get it through the first weeks it'll be worth it. As it grows it also becomes more robust. Biobizz soil can be bought in many online shops or for example in Helsingin Puutarhatarvike for 10-15€ for the gigantic 50L bag, or like 8€ for the 20L bag. Personally I found all these starters etc unnecessary.
If heat was the issue and it's surely not too wet, the seeds might just take a bit longer. They often sprout in 3-5 days, but can take even up to 2 weeks in non-optimal conditions, so the two might still be alive, just taking time to get there.
@LottaBuds,
Yeah, the BioBizz stuff is something considered for the future, but getting stuff delivered here is a real PITA.
The cubes got the exact treatment RQS stated in their instructions, 10 seconds dipped into the bactomix. Maybe it's simply too cold, as I have troubles getting the temps up, as it's still freezing over night. During the day I can barely get it up to 25°C in the tent.
And if cannabis needs so very specific conditions, which I can't accomodate for without spending hundreds and hundreds of Euros in more equipment, soil and nutrients, then it's not worth it tbfh. I allready spend some 500 Euros and I don't plan on spending any more.
@Wimskeweed,
The one that made it out of the ground somehow decided to simply die off again during the last two days and the other two seeds never started to germinate at all. So none of it ever made it out of the germinating box that came witht the starter kit from Royal Queen Seeds.
The seed that had broken ground died during two days afterwards and the other two seeds stayed closed and didn't show any sign of germination on day 6.
So this attempt is failed aswell.
