Soaked seeds at around 2:30am in small containers of tap water. Around noon I checked and saw they seeds had soaked up water and sunk, indicating it was time to plant them. I planted the seeds into a 50/50 mix of Bluesky Organics soil and perlite, and added a large scoop of kelp, a large scoop of worm castings and a small scoop of eggshells into each pot. I also added a spoonful of Myke Flower a couple inches below the surface in to the the very centre of the pot to hopefully get a good inoculation of mycorrhizal fungi.
April 23 (Day 3): First signs of seedlings breaking through soil surface.
April 24 (Day 4): Cotyledons fully opened up on both seedlings.
Apr 25 (Day 5): Watered with plain water with PH of 6.7 at around noon. Humidity rose from mid 30's to above 60% right after watering, I expect this to have dropped back down by the end of the day though. Was down to 52% just before lights out at midnight.
Apr 26 (Day 6): Daytime temps consistently around 24-26C, Nighttime temps dropping to just below 18C. Humidity settled at around 32% by this morning, I added more water to the drip trays to keep humidity up.
April 27 (Day 7): I had to pack down my tent last night due to a furnace inspection, plants were moved upstairs and light schedule and temps were kept pretty consistent but humidity plummeted to below 20% for most of the day and a low of 16%. The young plants did not respond well to such drastic changes.
April 28 (Day 8): Plants were put back into the tent after lights out at around 12:30 last night, humidity rose up to 50% over night and has settled back to 37% during the day and the plants are much happier now.
April 29 (Day 9): Fed with 1.5l of water with a PH of 6.2 and 1.5ml Fish Shit fertilizer
May 1 (Day 11): Slow growth but both plants look healthy. Struggling monitoring humidity right now as I dropped my Boveda Butler in some water and it isn’t reading accurately right now.
May 2 (Day 12): Realised I had my light schedule set to 16/8 so changed to 18/6
May 3 (Day 13): I am regularly misting the plants to keep humidity up in the tent until the plants are large enough for regular watering. Afghani Kush is coming on really nicely and putting out new growth daily. Blueberry is much slower growing and hasn’t changed much in a couple of days, its not showing any signs of deficiency or damage so hopefully its just a slow starter and will kick on pretty soon.
May 4 (Day 15): Watered with 1.5l of 6.4pH water and 1ml Botanicare Pure Blend Tea. Afghani Kush is still developing nicely, I’m starting to worry about the Blueberry though as it is still not growing much at all.
May 5 (Day 16): Checked on the plants a couple times and turned the small heater up slightly to raise temps. Trying to avoid nighttime temps below 18c but still avoid plus 30c in the daytime.
May 6 (Day 17): Temp of nearly 30c by 10am so turned the heater down again, may try to turn it up again tonight but I’m not sure of my nighttime temps as my Boveda Butler is broken. Watered with 1.5l of water with a pH of 6.3 and added 2.25ml of Fert-alive
May 7 (Day 18): Afghani Kush is flourishing, with 3 full sets of leaves now. Looking strong enough to try out the ponytailing LST technique. Blueberry is still very stunted, still no signs of deficiency as far as I can tell though.
May 8 (Day 19): Untied ponytail from the Afghani Kush at around 1pm after approximately 24 hours.
May 9 (Day 20): Fed with 1.5l of 6.3pH and 2.3ml of Fish Shit fertilizer at around 10am. Retied the ponytail on my Afghani Kush at around 2pm.
May 10 (Day 21): Untied ponytail at around 12 pm, the tied leaves look slightly damaged and I’m not sure much was gained in the lower growth.
May 11 (Day 22): Afghani Kush still has some damage on the leaves that were tied up in the ponytail, I don’t think it really had the desired effect. I will tie it down and begin bending today. Blueberry is still very small, its growing slowly and still looking healthy though so I’m still hopeful that she’ll catch up at some point.
May 13 (Day 24): Afghani Kush is starting to show improved growth in its lower branches after having its lead node tied down. Blueberry is still so small and slow growing and I am beginning to see some slight yellowing on the edge of the lower leaves.
May 15 (Day 26): Watered just the Blueberry with 1 cup of 6.4pH plain water to keep the top layer of soil moist until both plants need a full feed, the surface soil dries out too quickly due to the fan being pointed directly at it.
May 16 (Day 27): Really exciting to see signs of flowers already, that has seemed really fast. I’m pleased with where the Afghani Kush is currently at, hopefully by training it well during the stretch I’ll be able to get more of a canopy developed before it fully flowers. Blueberry is not looking too good and if she’s showing signs of flower already, then my hopes of her catching up seem to be slipping away. Hopefully she makes enough for a joint...
May 17 (Day 28): I swapped the plants tent position as I was worried the browning on the Blueberry might be slight wind burn from the fan, I really am just guessing at this point though. Afghani Kush is growing really nicely though and is looking like it will develop really nicely through the stretch as long as keep on top of tying down lead shoots. I top dressed with Bluesky Organics Organic Reactor (1 scoop for Blueberry, 3 for Afghani Kush) and watered with 2l of 6.6pH water with 2.5ml of Botanicare Pure Blend Tea.
May 18 (Day 29): Blueberry was looking really healthy and happy after the super cropping so I decided to do it a little more but over did it and snapped the main stem. I’ve used a tie to hold it in place and am hoping for the best, this little girl really can’t afford to lose her top. Afghani Kush is coming along nicely, I’m tying down lead shoots most days at the moment.
May 19 (Day 30): Blueberry is looking surprisingly happy after yesterday’s incident, I’m hoping that main stem has managed to reattach itself and I’ve got away with some accidental HST. I defoliated some lower foliage from the Afghani Kush that was touching the ground or receiving no light. It’s starting to shape up really nicely now though and I’m excited to start to see how far I can get her before flowering starts properly.
May 21 (Day 32): Blueberry has recovered with only some minor scarring from the snap, I'm sure the stress will affect her already tiny yield. Afghani Kush is still looking healthy and developing well.
May 22 (Day 33): Blueberry is starting to show some signs of deficiency on its upper leaves, yellowing on the very edges and some browning necrosis on the very tips of some leaves. It looks almost identical to the issues shown in the first couple weeks of growth that went away for a while. I did some defoliation to allow more light to the lower branches. Afghani seems to be done with any major growth now so I untied its branches to allow it to stretch out and will defoliate some upper growth soon to allow light and airflow into the bud sites.
May 23 (Day 34): Top dressed with Organic Reactor from Bluesky Organics, 1 scoop for Blueberry and 3 scoops for Afghani Kush and watered them with 1.5l of 6.7pH water with 0.3g of Flower Two from Bluesky Organics.
May 25 (Day 36): I left the drip trays under both plants empty to see what the humidity settled at and found it at 39% which I would have thought would be too low but they seem to really like it, I did add a small amount of water to see how that effects them. Blueberry, although stunted and seemingly suffering some deficiency is developing pistils and even some calyxes faster than my Afghani Kush. The deficiency doesn’t seem to have developed any further in the last couple days though. I defoliated the Afghani Kush to allow light to some more bud sites and also cleared some lower foliage that wasn’t receiving any light.
May 26 (Day 37): Watered with 1.5l of 6.4 pH water with 2ml Pure Blend Tea added to it. Both plant seem to be developing nicely now and are happy with a humidity currently at around 55%.
May 27 (Day 38): I did some pretty heavy defoliation on both plants today to open up the bud sites to more light and air.
May 30 (Day 41): Humidity was up at 69% so I opened some vents to try reduce it. Both plants seem to be developing nicely, Blueberry is a little further along than Afghani Kush at this point which is just starting to show trichomes and calyxes.
May 31 (Day 42): Humidity had dropped to 45% so closed 1 vent back up in the hopes of levelling out around 55% if possible.
June 1 (Day 43): Top dressed Blueberry with 2 scoops of Organic reactor and gave 4 scoops to Afghani Kush and watered both plants with 1.5L of water with a pH of 6.8 and added 0.2g of Flower Two.
June 2 (Day 44): Seeing development of trichomes on both plants and they both seem happy apart from some darkening and downward curling of a few fan leaves, this may be nitrogen toxicity. I’ll keep an eye on it but I don’t really want to flush them so soon after top dressing.
June 4 (Day 46): Afghani Kush hasn’t developed any more signs of deficiency and was ready for a light watering. I gave her 500ml of water with a pH of 6.5. Blueberry seems to be developing more signs of deficiency and the dark green is now beginning to lose colour and yellow slightly.
June 7 (Day 49): Watered both plants with Fish Shit fertilizer added to water with a pH of 6.7.
June 12 (Day 54): Blueberry looks to have recovered from its deficiency and is looking really healthy again. Afghani Kush is definitely getting worse, I’m beginning to think it may be a cal mag issue so I top dressed with rock dust before applying Flower Two. Both plants got a full feed with Flower Two and water with a pH of 6.6.
June 14 (Day 56) Afghani Kush is definitely worsening which makes me doubt my diagnosis of a cal mag deficiency, but it doesn’t look like anything else.
June 16 (Day 58): Watered both plants with 1.5L water with a pH of 6.7 and 2ml of Pure Blend Tea. Blueberry is looking really nice considering how slowly she started, she’s bulking out nicely and has a really nice layer of trichomes covering her. Afghani Kush is really suffering from its deficiency, buds are not fattening up and she isn’t anywhere near as frosty as the Blueberry. I top dressed just the Afghani Kush with some more rock dust before feeding in the hope that it is a cal mag issue.
June 20 (Day 62): Blueberry is still looking really nice still. Afghani Kush is showing more signs deficiency after removing all the damaged leaves last time I fed them, I don’t think the rock dust is fast releasing enough to act as a top dress so I added fishbone meal before watering. Watered both plants with 1.5l of water pH’d at 6.7 with 0.2g of Flower Two added.
June 24 (Day 66): Afghani Kush seems to have recovered from its deficiency, she has very few yellow/brown spots on her leaves after trimming back and top dressing. Hopefully she can kick on and ripen nicely from here as she smells lovely, I just doubt her potency as trichome development has stalled recently. Blueberry is continuing to mature nicely, she’s getting very frosty now and has very distinct blueberry smell. Watered both plants with 1.5l of plain water with a pH of 6.5.
June 28 (Day 70): Both plants are now looking healthy and the Afghani Kush has added some bulk in the last week and some frost as well. I did some trichome inspecting today and came to the conclusion that I need a better method. From the shaky images I managed to get there seems to be some amber trichomes on sugar leaves but the main buds are mostly cloudy. Today’s feed will be the last for both plants before I start to flush, I was hoping to be more precise with trachoma monitoring to determine my harvest date but it looks like i will need to get it all wrapped up in 2 weeks anyway to give me chance to dry it before I go away for a month. Fed with water with a pH of 6.7 with 0.2g of Flower Two added.
