All normal except that unlike every other Blackberry I've grown, this one is bright yellow. I know it's nothing to do with the nutrient so all that's left is some sort of genetic mutation. I've never heard of a Blackberry with yellow leaves phenotype. So depending on how the next week goes I may end up terminating this one. Or maybe she'll do something spectacular later, or maybe she might even go green and become normal, which will leave the mystery in place.
Welp, I did think that she'd green up, but it's beginning to look like this really might be a genetic mutation. Apart from the pale yellow green colour over the entire plant from day one to today, everything else is normal. The form, the strength, the development and the overall growth. This plant could be topped now, and normally I would top this at the fourth node in a couple more days, but I think I'll let her grow out, normally, for a change.
I'm thinking that if there was some problem causing this then she would be growing so strongly. Anyhooo, should be interesting later on when the purple colours start to manifest. It's difficult to tell how pale she is but you can see from the close up of the leaves that there is an even pale green mottling if you look at the darkest parts of that mottling that would still be much lighter than a normal leaf.
EDIT: added final photo, where I took an undergrowth baby leaf that is not in the light from a mature plant so it's a pretty light green, about as light as you'd want to see any plant, this gives a better idea of how pale this blackberry is.
I gave her a super boost by giving her a big wallop of Gro, and Micro, as I suspected nothing has changed regarding the colour. I intended to grow this one naturally, but I made a sudden decision to top her at the 5th node, usually I'd go for the fourth node but this Blackberry Kush is deceptively tricky. I'm even considering putting a wire net over her, even though I don't really like that when I don't have much space. The first two oldest sets of fan leaves have finally gone green, but not a very strong green and you can still see the mottled pattern in the leaves. Every other leaf is growing exactly the same as the first lime/yellow leaves, that is mainly a very pale lime green with a darker mottling all over the leaf.
Nevertheless she is growing very well so I guess we're going to have to wait till she flowers to see if this really is a mutated genotype, or merely a very weird phenotype. Because the leaves are so broad and strong I have been able to tuck the huge fan leaves without them popping back up, so that's a big plus.
She's well into flowering now, plenty of space in this one, I decided to do a mini scrog, still lime green and there is no hint of the reds tints that are usually in the flowers by now, so I'm expecting this one to not exhibit any of the typical reds at all. I'm also not expecting much of a yield, doubt there will be more than three zips of this one.
I did some ham fisted HST and caused some distress, so I pretty well left her to her own devices. I'm not expecting a big yield from this and I'm happy that there's virtually no leaves to worry about, so no defoliation or stuff. She's still got the same lime green mottled pattern as always, however the flowers are getting some dark colours so that was a surprise. Probably be another two weeks before these chunk up enough to tell if their might be a decent result. I will be putting up my next bean, Lemon Pie Auto, in a few days time.
OK now that the big girl is down, (purple gorilla) I have moved blackberry kush under the main lights of which she is getting plenty, meanwhile the new bean Lemon Pie, is on it's way. I've got a few weeks now to think about what I'm going to do next, I have a feeling that it's going to be multiple plant in one pot because I need to get rid off all these free seeds! I'm pretty happy with the mini scrog, I don't really have to do much especially as there doesn't seem to be any need for defoliation. Oh yeah, this week after 5 1/2 weeks of being strange with lime green mostly leaves, she suddenly became normal, almost over night! All the lime green is gone.
Nice and easy. Not much to do at all here, no defoliation and not much care necessary. Fast to flower as usual, even the early trichomes are already cloudy! It's winter here now and I think the cooler temps are helping. Peace.
A fairly uplifting and clear stone, that tastes like it smell like it looks. There's nothing complicated about this strain, it's looks fruity, and that how it smells, and the taste is fruity with no lingering aftertastes, it's just fruity all the way. Can be a little boring. the trichome density leaves a lot to be desired. But she looks impressive.
She started out weird and was always a bit strange, she produced nearly four ounces which is not a great result considering the low thc content, but she was easy to grow and I need that. I have one bean left of this one but she won't be getting a pot of her own that's for sure. My next grow will be 3 different strains in one pot.
@DoDrugs420, lol, she must have god on her side because every time grow her I vow to not grow her again but she keeps pulling me in, the trichomes are spread out far, the stem of the flowers is too meaty, she doesn't have much character in flavour apart from some mild sweet fruitiness, and yet I keep being drawn in to her, I feel she has more to reveal that I cannot unlock. I have one more bean left, but she's at the back of the queue at the moment.
@@BeachGrower, yes when scanning with a loupe overall there appears to be less trichomes per area than other plants I normally see, however once dry the trichome density appears to be pretty normal. She is a challenge to grow mainly because she's very unpredictable. Last one the buds were fairly loose, this one they are fairly tight. She is not a plant on my 'desert island' list. I see her more as an ornamental plant, after my monster purple gorilla, i needed something simple.
@Lookingforsomethingz, interesting. All the ones I've grown have behaved very differently. I guess by the end of next week is going to know if this is going to grow out. I shall not be altering the nutrients at all except to rebalance the pH if needed.
