All clones were acquired on Friday May 4 and transplanted from cubes into 1 quart containers to start vegging. By Monday morning when first set of photos were taken these girls have been acclimating to my Kind K3 LED lights for about 48 hours. I'll probably lower the lights in a couple days. The Raspberry Glue shows the most signs of distress, with some leaf curling and the SD looks a little dry in parts but they all look better day by day while they acclimatize. ----- All the girls got fed tonite (Monday 5/7) at the start of the light cycle - no standing water in collection plates. I actually use a light cycle of 1900-1300 (7pm to 1pm) because I have solar panels on my roof and have net metered electricity - so from May to October I avoid electricity usage during the peak period - which is exactly 1pm to 7pm (6 hours - how convenient)... so this minimizes electrical cost of using my lights - which are LED to start with so it's really the equivalent of a 320 watt light (according to Kind). This also means my lights provide heat overnight for my tent, which is in an unheated/uncooled small room in my yard. If I actually ran my lights during hot afternoons - I'd have to find a way to cool the whole thing down - right now - I just open the door to vent... so nighttime works here as a light period on multiple levels. ----- At some point in June (today is May 8), probably before the solstice, I plan to move most of these girls outdoors for the remainder of the summer. I think the optimal number of plants to fit inside my tent is 4, although I grew 6 in my crop last winter as my first winter experiment which had a couple smaller plants. I acquired these clones in pairs - so I want to grow one outside and one inside and compare the results. I'm not quite sure how this will affect the diary.... but I suspect it will be necessary to split the diary into two parts - those growing inside and those outside for the flowering phase (any tips welcome). It's not going to be directly comparable for a couple reasons: First - is that all the girls that go outside will get 5 gallon (fabric) pots, and all those inside will get 3 gallon (fabric) pots. This is to limit the overall size of the plants growing in the tent when sativas are involved. I actually own two grow tents because I originally underestimated the vertical space needed to hang a light. Easy mistake for a rookie to make 😳. Of course, that bigger tent needed a bigger light to cover that footprint 😂 - so I'll probably press the 2nd tent into service for a short time to veg plants after I move them from the 1 quart containers they're in today into the 3/5 gallon permanent homes in a few weeks. Second - the girls that go outside are going to flower when mother nature tells them to. The girls inside are going to flower when I flip that light switch back into a 12/12 light cycle - and I'm likely to do that before the outside girls get going seriously (at least that's my guess at present). One of the big differences between inside and outside grows is light quality and consistency. It's NEVER foggy or otherwise cloudy inside (or excessively windy). Outside, you roll your dice.

Photo day.. one of those foggy mornings good for photos; imperfect for growing (outdoors anyway). Everyone has pretty much stabilized to my LED lighting about now. Most of the plant damage in my photos was there when I acquired the clones. Should I just cut off the affected fan leaves here? -------- The clones are in pairs and their heights are currently... RG both 11"... SD 11" and 12"...GSC 9" and 10"...SLH 8" and 9". Based on past experience there's no way these clones are only 3 weeks old; probably close to 4 or 5 weeks based on height... but I had to start the diary somewhere. -------- I'll need to top the Sour Diesels first here. I've never gotten clones that were quite as tall as these were starting out. I've already decided to put both SD's outdoors (where I had originally planned to place one of each indoors and one outdoors) - due to the fact that they have the longest flowering phase of any of these clones (10-12 weeks vs. 7-9 weeks for most others) and will end up quite tall if done right. Newest plan is to put one of them in a 5 gallon container and one in a 7 gallon container as an experiment in container size. Added before and after photos for topping the Sour Diesel's at the beginning of the light phase on Sunday May 13. --------- I'm already leaning to changing my mind on topping. Can't decide yet which clones I will keep inside or outside but need to constrain height whichever way I go. Will probably top most before the end of the week since I will repot next week. Fed all the girls at the beginning of the light cycle tonite (Monday about 1930) - with only 25% of the nutrient level listed (backing off a bit). In general no more than 400 ml of fluid was necessary to flood any of the quart containers in my tent. -------- Topped the Raspberry Glue's on Tuesday May 15 at the beginning of the light cycle... about 1930. I was surprised how light one of them was when lifted (considering that I fed them yesterday) and I noticed roots already coming out the holes in the bottom of the 1 quart pot (10 days after repotting the cube). Gonna need to keep an eye on these for the next week until I repot. I'll top the GSC's tomorrow and wait until next week for the SLH's which are bushy anyway and the shortest of the group.

As a general rule, should I cut off fan leaves that show abnormal growth... for example the RG's curling upwards or wilting. Most of the new growth from all the clones in this diary are growing normally - so are the fan leaves showing damage of various sorts better removed?

Hey there so Defoliation can be a good thing, but I wouldn't recommend cutting them now. Those twisted drooping leaves should hopefully pick up once your watering and nutes get on track. The plants aren't looking really bad so I'd leave those lights until the pop of fully dicoloered and clearly dead.

The last plants that needing topping were my pair of Super Lemon Haze's... so that was done this morning during a quick photo session before sneaking out to play golf. Cold and windy it was. The weather this whole week has been cool and foggy... so a plus for growing under lights, but I lowered the listed temperatures because my LED lights essentially provide all the heat my tent gets if it's not winter... which is partially why the light cycle is at night. -------- Current heights are 13" and 15" for the SDs; 13" and 14" for the RGs; 12" and 13" for the GSCs; and the SLHs were both 10". Most everything grew 2-3 inches last week. -------- I bought myself a 10 gallon water reservoir because I was tired of ph balancing my tap water (which is very alkaline at 9.5+) in one gallon increments. I'll probably stick an aerator in there. ------- The girls will be repotted into their final homes later this week when I get my other tent ready. The current plan is to grow both SD's outdoors, and for the others one of each pair will go outdoors and the other will flower inside in my tent.

Summer arrived today, and not a moment too soon. No fog, temps near 80. I felt like it was graduation week this week after getting all my repotting done for the season. Now I just have to keep everyone fed and move them around occasionally for pictures. ------------- The Sour Diesels are the tallest, with the 5 gallon at 18" and the 7 gallon at 20". The Raspberry Glues are next - 17" for both. The Cookies are 16" in the 5 gallon pot and 14" in the 3 gallon. The Super Lemon Haze's are smallest at 12" for both. ------------- The Sour Diesels are both spending the summer outside, due to their height and longer flowering period. Those might turn into monsters. Other than that one of each clone will go outdoors and the other indoors. ------------- Gonna need to top those Diesels again before the weekend - growin' like a weed! (Done Thursday 5/31 at start of light cycle). -------- Also should note that the NorCal Cannabis Cup is this weekend in Santa Rosa and I'll be there for Saturday for the Phil Lesh & Friends show. This is technically only the 2nd EVER legally sanctioned cannabis consumption event in the USA... they gots the permit. ✊ The first ever was a couple weeks ago somewhere around Sacramento and I hope they have the bugs worked out... so to speak. I'll be seeking shade in the VIP section wearing a Dead T-shirt from Las Vegas in May 1993... the shows with Sting and the thunderstorm that required evacuating the metal stands... good times!

Recovering from the Cannabis Cup yesterday in Santa Rosa. The start of the Phil Lesh show was delayed by a power malfunction for about 45 minutes, so we decided to use that time to shop. My favorite was a group called A5 Extracts which were selling dabs for $1... so I picked up some of their Fire OG and Chem shatter after sampling (going for $20/gram)... excellent stuff. ------ I left the girls that will be moved outside permanently (the ones in the grey 5 gallon pots) outside to acclimate to some HOT sunlight for about 60 minutes today, not very windy. I'll repeat that process a couple more time this week before they go out full time. ------- The heights come in as follows: Cookies: 21" for the 3 gallon and 22" for the 5 gallon Super Lemon Haze: 15.5" for both Sour Diesel: 23" for the 7 gallon and 22" for the 5 gallon Rasbperry Glue: 22" for the 5 gallon and 21" for the 3 gallon -------- Nutrients are still being used at 50% of the listed rates. -------- June 5 -> Argh... close inspection shows signs of powdery mildew beginning on BOTH GSC plants (but only those). I had planned to spray everybody this week as a preventative measure anyway. Mother Nature sends her reminder. -------- June 6 -> Sprayed both GSC's with Azamax (a neem oil extract). Most of the clones will be moved outside Friday (June 8). Put the 5 gallon GCS outside today. Everybody will get a coating of Azamax on Friday when I move everything around. I can also use that time to wipe down my tent with a cleaner.

This is moving week - in terms of environment. One of each clone was moved outdoors yesterday, except for the Sour Diesels - they both go out. Still kinda cool as we had fog all morning, which is good in that they're starting out with not quite a full day of intense sunlight. However, the wind right now is such (averaging 10-20 mph in the afternoons) that I've provided support for the plants at least temporarily, using inverted tomato cages. -------- Heights this week are: Sour Diesels - 27.5" in the 7 gallon, 25" in the 5 gallon Raspberry Glue - 26.5" outside, 23" inside Cookies - 24" outside, 23" inside Super Lemon Haze - 17.5 outside, 18.5" inside -------- The indoor Raspberry Glue was topped again on Monday morning June 11. -------- Everybody was trimmed at the base on June 12 to remove growth near the container handles and other minor interior growth. Everybody is currently receiving only ph balanced water with no nutrients in preparation for switching over to flowering nutes. The weather has turned hot and sunny with little fog midweek and the girls seemed to have handled the transition smoothly.

I've listed this as the first week of flowering based on switching my indoor lights over to a 12/12 cycle one week ago when the rest of the herd was moved outside for the summer. 3 of the clones in this batch are inside, and 5 are now outside. We're basically at summer solstice week, which was my target for getting everybody outside... so mother nature will tell all the girls outside when to do their thang. ---- As a transition phase between switching from vegetation nutrients to flowering nutrients I'm giving everybody just straight ph balanced water this whole week. Also trying to figure out wtf is going on with the leaves on the outdoor Cookies - which shows some weird curling, so I'm trying to take nutes out of the equation. It's been pretty hot this week with a couple days near 80 and lots of bright sun and it's her first week out. We'll see.

Summer has arrived with high temps in the afternoon in the mid-80s. The indoor clones have now been on flowering lights for two weeks now and the pistils are just starting to show up. I love this part. Most of the girls I moved outside I'll actually be parting ways with this week as I gift them to friends. -------- June 27 - did some major pruning of the underside of all the girls in the tent and found some white powdery mildew on the Raspberry Glue so she got a significant haircut and everybody inside and outside got a dose of Azamax to control further proliferation.

Entering a nice stable phase of summer with minimal fog. Today is hot with temps near 90 but most of the week has been high 70's. ----- Both the indoor and outdoor Raspberry Glue's are about the same size at 32" presently. The Super Lemon Haze is now 26" tall and the Cookies is 34". ----- Indoor plants are presently drinking about a half gallon every other day (3 gallon pots), and outdoor plants are drinking a gallon a day (5 gallon pots). Using 50% nutrients on the indoor girls which are fully flowering - maybe half that with the outdoor girls which are starting to show pre-flowers.

A fairly ordinary week with temperatures in the 70's. Starting to lean toward more nutrient feeding as we're now about halfway thru flowering. I was giving them about 50% of the listed (prescribed) nutrient level - now we're about 75%. I still need to do more pruning of the internals on all the indoor girls. -------- Heights on the girls are: Outdoor Raspberry Glue is 33" Indoor Raspberry Glue is 30" Indoor Cookies is 35" Indoor Super Lemon Haze is 26"

Just as the buds start taking on some weight the indoor Raspberry Glue shows a bout of White Powdery Mildew, so I gave her a fairly massive pruning underneath and everybody gets (another) coating of azamax, which so far has been effective for me at controlling WPM... but I was >< close to killing her outright this morning as a preventative measure. The outdoor RG has grown into a fairly massive bush in comparison so it doesn't bug me so much if she doesn't make it. She looks about ready to start flowering in a week or so. ------ Heights for the week are ... Raspberry Glue (indoor) is 31" Raspberry Glue (outdoor) is 36" Cookies is 36" Super Lemon Haze is 27" ------- Weather has been consistent this week with daytime temps in the low 80's and nightime in high 50's. Everybody inside is in a 3 gallon pot and gets a half gallon of fluid every other day. The SLH is the smallest of the batch and drinks the least..

Unfortunately the indoor Raspberry Glue succumbed to a bout with white powdery mildew (actually I was the one that killed her 😩). She just couldn't shake the stuff and I can't keep her around lest she infect everything else in the yard. RIP baby. Fortunately the outdoor version of this girl is a bushy little monster that's already a couple weeks into flowering and she will yield easily twice what the spindly indoor girl could have yielded in this case. ------- Weather has been steady with morning fog followed by sunny low 80s daytime and high 50s night. The Super Lemon Haze appears to have stopped growing vertically at 27". The Cookies is also steady at 36". The outdoor Raspberry Glue has grown a little to 38".

Cookies is clearly the furthest along in terms of flowering here. The bud weight finally forced me to employ some stakes to keep things from falling over. The time has come for flushing the Cookies at a minimum. I'll probably wait another week before flushing the SLH. The outdoor Raspberry Glue is chugging along nicely. I trimmed the internals of the Raspberry Glue last week to aid ventilation. We have a nice fogless period ahead with temps in the low 80s daytime and high 50s night.

It's time to flush the other indoor girls I have. The Cookies was flushed last week and will get a secondary flush tonight when I flush the others for the first time. Cookies will be harvested this week and the other indoor girls will be another week or so. The outdoor Raspberry Glue is looking quite nice after internal pruning. It's been unusually hot the last couple days with the temp reaching 90 but she hasn't shown any sign of wilting.

Harvest time has arrived for the Cookies. Last water on 8/12; an extra 12 hours of darkness prior to harvesting before sunrise on August 14. Set up my now typical 3 stage bud washing bath. Stage 1 is 3% Hydrogen Peroxide and water; Stage 2 is Baking soda and lemon juice; Stage 3 is just a straight water rinse. Check you tube for variations on the theme. It took me about 2 hours from cutting up the plant into 5 pieces and removing as many fan leaves as I could to washing and hanging for drying. Easier than most plants I've trimmed because of the structure of the plant without much foliage between the nuggets. ---------- Initially I was thrown back by the taste testing portion of the diary in Harvest mode.... normally I don't even think of consuming the flowers until they've been cured for about 2 months (because I can I suppose)... get that chlorophyl outa the way. Then I said...WTF dude... more than enough scrap product here just for a taste test.... and I'll be damned if it didn't taste just fine... just a little on the harsh side from lack of curing but dayem - I'd have paid a pretty penny for this stuff back in the day at Alley Pond Park imitating a young adult.... some 4 decades ago. My results?... tastes like cookie dough (not one of the designated flavors naturally)... at least that was my initial impression. Buzz is great too. ----------- For comparison purposes with other plants I've been growing this baby yielded about 50 grams of flower and 10 grams of trim. The funny thing is I thought for sure this would be a smaller yield than my indoor Durban Poison visually... and I was wrong by a significant margin as the Durban came in at 42 grams ( I may have gotten lazy in trimming there). The density of those cookie buds must be the difference.

Easily the smallest in physical plant size of the batch of 4 different strains I grew this summer.... but probably a bigger yield than the Cookies. Will revise after finishing the dry and trim. ---------- I was wrong... at least in terms of Cookies yield. Those buds were denser by and large. Final yield of Super Lemon Haze is 28 grams of flower with about 10 grams of trim.

Easy to grow but didn't grow as robust size-wise under my LEDs compared to other strains this summer. The final dry weight for this baby (pre-cure) was 28 grams with about 10 grams of trim. --------- For comparison purposes... the other 2 plants that I grew indoors yielded 50 grams of flower/10 grams of trim for a single Girl Scout Cookie plant, and 42 grams of flower and 20 grams of trim for a single Durban Poison. I got lazy trimming the Durban because I have another growing outside as tall as me. 😁

Weather has been a bit on the foggy side this week helping keep things cool. Mid 70's This girl is about a week away from being flushed... maybe two weeks from harvest. --------- Morning of Wednesday August 29 - flushed the girl with 6+ gallons of ph balanced water. She almost fell over sideways when I lifted her up with the handles due to the unbalanced center of gravity of the plant in general. Fortunate not to have any serious incidents with the wind so far but this baby is pretty strong.

Things are getting close now on the outdoor Raspberry Glue. She was flushed last week and I figure she has less than a week to go before she's ready for harvest. Trichomes are maybe 30% amber with everything cloudy at this point. --------- September 3 - I can't lift the rock off the base anymore to water the plant without her keeling over sideways from the increasing bud weight. This is a problem. She's still drinking enough that the weight of the container is no longer enough to offset her natural lean. Gonna have to be careful and do some thinking here. --------- September 4 - first stab at correcting the lean problem. Will take some observation to see how she handles the afternoon wind - worst case is might need two more tie-offs... but we have less than a week to go before harvest so nothing too elaborate planned. ---------- September 5 - first attempt at trichome photography with something that I'd purchased previously but was unsuccessful with. Minor success here. We're ready to harvest in any event. Trichomes seem to be quickly shifting to amber at least up top on the plant. Gradually cutting back water, and we plan to harvest Saturday morning before dawn.

Week 19. Harvest

Happy Harvest Day!

This stuff is very sticky. It was impossible to pull off all the fan leaves as I normally do at harvest because it would start to tear the buds... so I left them to trim off later... which will mean more work, but that's life. This is supposed to be a high CBD strain. ===================== I initially started out with an indoor and an outdoor version of this plant, but the indoor girl succumbed to white powdery mildew no matter my attempts to save her, and I didn't want her to infect other indoor plants so she had to go. The yield on the one outdoor plant more than made up for that though. So as far as growing goes.... all my plants started indoors and vegged under Kind K3 LED lighting... and the outdoor plant was moved out around the summer solstice to let mother nature take over.

Difficult diary because I combined things grown outdoors with things grown indoors and the diaries aren't really structured to do that. My intent was to compare indoor vs outdoor but there really is no comparison. The outdoor yield is substantially larger than what I was capable of growing in my relatively small tent (3.25' square). Also, I have no intention of actually consuming any of this for a few weeks while I cure the crop with Boveda packs and CVault containers... so I'm guessing what it tastes like based on stuff I've sampled. Same as for weighing this stuff. I don't see the point in weighing while it's "wet"... I'll put the weight in after it's actually dry and I've trimmed the buds down and they're ready for cure. ================ September 15 - finished trimming yesterday and when I weighed it all out.... it made me wonder why I grow plants indoors. 😳 The yield was close to exactly 10 ounces of buds. Pretty much stuffed a 4L (1/2 lb.) container. Sticky little devils too. Initially measured dry was about 58%. Boveda packs will take about a week to bring that up to 62% and then we'll cure it for at least a month. Yummy days ahead. There was 8.9 ounces of trim here... that being the stuff that you get too frustrated trying to save as small buds and everything else.... but all this stuff was washed... as opposed to stuff yanked off the plant immediately before/after harvest before washing.00

I'm using a Sun Hut Blackout grow tent which is 3'-3" square and a little over 6 feet tall. Most of these girls will eventually be moved outdoors for the summer (I have some questions about that)- but everyone will veg in the tent for at least another month. Those going outdoors will be moved into 5 gallon containers and the lucky girls remaining in the tent will be moved to 3 gallon containers to make sure they fit in the tent (still deciding on this).

Plants look great! I got mine off to an early start indoors and then gradually climatized them for the outdoors, enjoy the grow!

@sneal, ...ready to get serious starting this weekend when I'll move all that are going outdoors out, and flip the lights to flowering for the remaining indoor girls.

Hey there so with your leaf problem, I didn't think it looked to bad....was it too much wind, nutes, watering practices? I had a variety of leaf problems with my plants and usually they resolved themselves, except when bugs were involved. I think most people stand by removing leaves if they're completely beyond repair, or when they're older if they're blocking the light to other growth nodes.I thought I saw 1 extremely shriveled leaf in pic 6, if so, that leaf might be worth removing, just don't accidentally take any of the new growth with it. :) I hope they'll be growing like wildfire before too long. :)

@Experimentgreen, All the damage shown in the photos was present when the clones were acquired so the source isn't clear - but the new growth looks fine all around so I think I'm on track. I'm generally loathe to cut anything that isn't clearly dead so I'll probably leave everything for now except those shriveling SD things. In fact that whole branch at the bottom will eventually come off when she gets older and repotted so maybe it's all for the best to cut it now now since she was just topped yesterday. The girls will be repotted into their final homes middle of next week.

I was going to do 5 gallon smart pots but the store i went too made some good arguments regarding larger pot size such as less days of watering. Im not so sure now.. the 20 gallon pots are huge!!

@Jamminbear, I want to try something larger than 5 gallons to experiment, but I still want to be able to pick the girl up and move her around - so I might try a couple 7 gallon pots for fun.

I m planning on doing the same and bring out the females around the June Soltice. I might go big and do a 20 gallon pot. hahehhe

@Jamminbear, hehe... I've never tried anything larger than a 5 gallon container. The upside is that it's easy to lift a 5 gal container to see how thirsty the plant is, which is something I've gotten used to (I've got fabric pots with handles this year so I'm eager to test them out). I was going to try and use one of those half oak barrel planters we have a couple of in the yard but my wife nixed that idea with much less interesting plants. Wouldn't be able to lift it anyway. Also allows me to control how much nutrients I give each plant too. These fabric pots are alleged to require more moisture. We shall see.

Following. What’s your room size please? That’s a stat that should be included in the template, don’t you agree?

dalemaccommented7 years ago
@growdoctordc, I agree that stat should probably be included - at least for indoor grows. I actually wrote the response below before I figured out it wasn't a "reply". Cannabis might have something to do with that.... Newbie for growdiaries... been around the block for a few crops.

@dalemac wrote “Weather has been steady with morning fog followed by sunny low 80s daytime and high 50s night.” That’s perfect growing weather! I mean artisanal top shelf outdoor! Sorry to hear about the one casualty, but you are correct about making up for her with your outdoor harvest.

This is what I could come up with for genetic information for Raspberry Glue which is supposedly a high CBD strain... Lineage: Gorilla Glue #4 x Pink Champagne Flavors: sweet, raspberry, floral, earthy. Effects: relaxed body high, happy, euphoric head high. Known to Alleviate: pain, anxiety, depression. BayCure (oakzendelivery.com) lists this as a 50/50 CBD strain with 7.2% THC and CBD.
the end.
