This is the 4th week this wedding cake plant has been growing since germination. Its over 15 inches in height so once I tie down limbs and it gets wider I will start it to flower .I will tie limbs down to a makeshift cage I made from chicken wire. This worked great for a watermelon zkittles auto i grew so im expecting good things from this feminized wedding cake plant.
The plant finally greeted up for me this week. I also started tying branches down to my cage I like to use in order to spread the branches out to maximize light to future bud sites. I've got a week until I plan to start 12-12 . My next feeding in a few days I will add my flowering nutrients at lower rates to have the plant ready for turning down the lights.
I noticed a few spider mites on my plant this past week. I was able to take care of them with some neem oil but if they come back we will see how they handle more kelthane like I used during my days as a golf course superintendent. I know that will take em out. I doubt I would have to resort to using something that potent but they are a nuisance. This was the first time with any pest other than mealybugs I've had to deal with. I also used a strong spray of straight water to blast any of the leaves I could and so far the neem and water spray are working since I haven't seen any more of them. I'm switching to flower by the end of the week and cant wait for the next 60 plus days of growing. It's a wonderful thing to wake up each day and see your buds swell.
Started 12on 12off a few days ago. Tons of bud sites. Cant wait for the first pistils to show up. I really like the results from fimming. This plant went crazy afterwards.
Should see the plant start stretching considerably over the next few weeks. I've never had this many tops resulting from fimming but I really expect it to result in a larger harvest. I'm also happy tying down those tops for better light down through the canopy as well as increasing overall harvest.
Controlling spider mites by spraying them with a strong water stream. Its keeping the numbers down enough along with lower temperatures and higher humidity that damage is minimal. I will continue with this control method through to harvest and if there's not a noticeable difference in the amount and quality of my buds I wont incorporate any pesticides. If its noticeable and I encounter any infestations in future grows I will definitely use what I have to to eradicate them. The plant is looking good with alot of buds that show hints of pink and purple among the pistils. I hope it increases the further into flower I get. Good luck to everyone with your grows.
Very happy with the way this plant is turning out. Plenty of buds with tight internode spacing. A good amount of new leaves are lime green with purple in the center. The hairs are sprinkled with pink and purple along with white ones that I expect will eventually turn orange. Happy to no longer be considered a newbie..👍👍😁😁😁
Finally have the spider mites on the outside. Although the infestation never became bad enough that the plant showed any real damage they were prevalent enough that it became my no.1 priority to wipe them out. I used several methods from spraying a strong water stream every few days to remove as many mites and eggs as possible along with one application of neem oil. Most recently I used my vacuum cleaner with hose attachment to remove anything possible from the underside of the leaves. That combination of different methods kept the population to a minimum. I also lowered the temperature in the grow room as well as putting 2 fans constantly blowing the plant to reduce the mites ability to reproduce. The plant is a little over halfway through the flower cycle and more and more leaves along with pistils are turning purple and pink. I cant wait to see what there going to look like in the last weeks of flowering especially once I lower the temperature during lights off and anthocyanins build up adding more colors.
She's starting to get close to harvest time although I think I'm going to be taking it down in stages for the first time some of the lower and interior flowers are a fair amount behind the top buds which are about 75 $ cloudy trichomes on day 56. I think the spider mites I recently finally completely disposed of are part of the reason the buds are behind. Other than that it smells awesome and with the purple and pink colors showing up more and more as it nears maturity is going to make for nice looking flowers with super bag appeal. Hopefully this strain does what its supposed to do and I get her thc levels in the mid 20s . Even low 20s would make me consider it a successful grow considering the strain is a little finicky to grow and for a grower who doesn't have pretty extensive knowledge identifying and correcting nutrient deficiencies it would be a difficult grow. I will post the harvest once the entire plant is done rather than after each stage of taking the ripe buds
This strain was the pickiest strain I've grown so far. Nothing occured I wasn't able to handle it just seemed like something was always needing boosting as far as nutrients. I had some spider mite issues that I was able to take care of which is why I think I ended up with so many small popcorn buds rather than the top buds growing larger than the lower ones.
