So I already had my tent (mostly) full, but after trying some GG4 from a local dispo.. I impulsively decided to germ a mystery gorilla glue auto seed I had. It was a freebie from North Atlantic Seed, so maybe it’s Fastbuds or Barney’s Farm??? Who knows!
Due to limited space I’ll be planting in a 1 gallon nursery pot I have laying around. It will be interesting to see how fast she goes compared to the others I have going in 3 gallon pots. These will be about 17 days behind the others in my tent.
Been meaning to experiment with some smaller pots so here it goes 🤞🏼
Seed germinated within 48 hrs. Placed in a 1 gallon nursery pot into 80% FF happy frog soil and 20% perlite.
Not a whole lot to do at this point, other than wait!
Did first real watering on day 6, I started with just 30 ml. Will see how long it takes to dry out. I expect it will be 30ml. every 2-3 days in this beginning phase.
Start of week 2, this plant seems healthy and going at a steady pace. Not sure if/ how I will end up training this plant, we will see how it grows! This grow is a bit of an experiment, so I may even top it when the time comes.
Beginning of week 3. She is going along nicely, not the fastest grower, but at a nice steady pace. Increased water volume to about 250ml every 2-3 days, seems to be going well so far!
By day 19, it seems this plant is starting to catch up, it started a little slow going but now seems to be growing more vigorously. I don’t think it’s stunted, just not a fast grower like some others I’ve seen. I was hoping to top her, and I still may as long as I see 4 solid sets of leaves within the next few days. If she’s not strong enough by the beginning of week 4, I will probably just stick to simple LST.
So on Day 20, I’ve noticed a lot of growth overnight, the 4th node filled out. Really starting to see more day to day growth with her. Seeing as this is sort of an experimental run, I plan on topping today.
Just topped at the end of week 3, by day 23 I can really see that it’s taken well to the topping. Had some issues on the lower leaves in the past few days, that I suspect is magnesium deficiency, will add some extra cal-mag next watering and hope that helps.
Beginning of week 5. This plant started slow but is now really picking up. Not planning on any major bending LST, just some lighter tying of lower branches to get more exposed to light. I think she’s going to have a lot of growth this week!
On day 29, I did some more minor LST, to separate the two tops a bit and give them some breathing room. By day 30 I see her responding well!
No signs of flowering yet on day 30 (other than pre-flowers). Since this is a mystery seed I’m not sure exactly what to expect, although most autos would start flowering right around now, expecting to see signs of flowering within the next 10 days.
It’s now day 36, and I’m seeing the first signs of transitioning into flower. This is a bit later than average for autos I think, but sort of what I expected as this plant has been slow at times.
Upping the bloom nutrients this week, will start light and see how she takes it, will add accordingly!
Doing some light defoliation, only to fan leaves blocking bud sites. Trying something new as this is an experiment run, but she seems to be growing nice and bushy so far!
By the end of the week, she still isn’t in full flowering mode. But I am now seeing extra pistils, so next week should be the first official week of flowering.
So seems she is finally about to start flowering, on the later side for an auto. Otherwise seems very healthy, starting to drink noticeably more so I think the stretch is coming.
About halfway through the week now, she really is taking her sweet time! I know autos can on rare occasion, not inherit the “auto” gene, so I was beginning to worry that may be the case. But I’m now seeing higher concentration of pistils build up in some areas.
Flowering sites are starting to take shape, I’m guessing she’ll stretch a bit over the next couple of weeks. She’s taken a while to get to flower so I wouldn’t be surprised if this one takes up to 14 weeks to finish.
Did some defoliation at the beginning of the week, will do more if needed to clear up bud sites. Also some light LST just to keep the canopy even. Other than that she’s fairly low maintenance.
On day 52, I supercropped the one stem starting to tower above the others, the canopy is now nice and even!
Flowering really starting to speed up, expect some serious growth over the next week. I’m using more LST than I had planned to keep the canopy even, but that’s fine because I’m very happy with how the canopy looks!
This grow has been a bit of an experiment, and has really helped show me the unique characteristics or autos, and which techniques I should continue to use going forward.
So I may have gotten carried away with the defoliation. Wanted to give it as much airflow as possible so I can mess around with a higher humidity for a perpetual grow. Anyways, I’m going to leave it alone for a while and we’ll see how she does.
She’s now recovered, after a heavy defoliation. Normally this is when I would see some stretch, but this plant is not gaining too much height. I figured using only a 1 gallon pot would get me root-bound at some point, but hopefully she gets a little taller.
Just gonna let it do it’s thing this week!
Had a bit of slow week, last week due to the previous aggressive defoliation, oh well!
She also looks to be a little nute burned, will be bringing the dosages down this week. Seems I underestimated just how much less it would need, being in such a small pot.
Probably won’t get much taller as she’s almost certainly root bound at this point. While I’m glad I experimented, this will likely be my last grow in such a small pot.
Just get to watch it bulk up now, and try to find the right balance of nutrients to get it through mid-late flower!
On day 72 I’m noticing one of the tops is herming, visible “nanners”. Not cool! Anyways it was only one of many tops and a couple lower bud sites.... for now at least. I’ll be keeping a close eye on this one.
Was having some issues that I had trouble identifying. Did a flush and will continue feeding tomorrow on day 75. She looks mad at me right now, but will get back to normal after the next feeding I’m sure!
After a slow week, she’s back to normal. Really starting to build up some chunk. Reduced nutrients after flushing and will probably stay at this level and see how it goes.
Not much to mention really for now. She’s a tiny plant, that I’m just trying to let chunk up as much as possible.
It’s starting to look like I really shocked her at the worst time possible with defoliation, combined with almost certainly being root-bound. I’m still going to see this one through, not too worried about yield.
Had to chop a little bit due to a little mold, sucks! Still trying to nail down the environment for my perpetual grow tent, accidentally had the humidifier nozzle pointed at one of the branches. Corrected the issue, the rest of the plant should be fine!
Nothing really notable between this and last week. This plant really has been through a lot of stress, but seems to be fine with no issues at this point.
I’m hoping it will chunk up a little more. I’ll keep a close eye on trichomes, although I think there’s at least a couple weeks to go.
Finally nearing the end of this one. Been some noticeable bulking in the past few days, so I want to keep it going a little while longer even though the harvest “window” is technically open.
Been checking trichomes and they are quickly turning a shade of amber, although only about 5-10% at this point.
Expecting I’ll be chopping within a week or so. I’m planning on doing a single flush, seeing as I’m using Overdrive which is synthetic.
Playing it by ear, and will be harvesting soon!
By day 101 I’m noticing the trichomes are already more ripe than my usual preference. Too bad since they are still putting on weight. Although this plant was severely stunted, so I’m happy with anything!
Making plants to flush tomorrow on day 102, then chopping 3-4 days after that!
On day 102, plant was flushed with 2 L of distilled water, with 2ml/L of Flawless Finish. Will now let the pot complete dry out before harvesting.
So I started this grow as a bit of an experiment, and she went through quite a bit of stress as I was finding optimal conditions for a perpetual grow.
Because of the circumstances, I am very excited to see how it turns out, regardless of yield (which will be very low).
The buds themselves were very dense with a odor that reminds me of the original GG#4. Will let cure for at least 4 weeks before I give it a test, and full smoke report!
